! O3 ^) h' v$ H. k2 A9 m" P( ZEdmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
' ^  u% \, a$ Y# B7 k5 R7 D# x•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.+ T' U7 O- Y# \" p7 b. \) r% \
•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
6 s5 D8 }( |4 m•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather 5 P2 N* `2 b& l' _: S- z
and traffic conditions. 0 i- x% f- h: q4 o2 z4 J
•        Adhere to schedules.
/ g; Z# A- A$ E1 B3 u$ [•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations. ! P. Y& C4 l. Z( B
•        Ensure the safety of all passengers.
' N/ Z7 y  L  b- |+ s- I•        Handle diverse and challenging situations.
# v7 G- u. _# D' X8 P•        Communicate effectively in a variety of situations.

•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
1 X* a2 P2 D$ l& ~2 d& Y•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
" j& ?# O# C" ~! g) xto be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger 0 u. ^9 |" J2 s0 O8 D9 Q

•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
3 p1 D; \# Q. T: b- y3 D, }•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
5 R7 ]* j+ A1 w9 ]+ D# A6 I5 K& S•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.# A! F; C4 N$ n/ X% L
•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
/ p; o) t4 c/ kshowing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period. ; e9 D2 @9 s3 G! g
•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill - f1 C" u5 d7 X9 n0 _
video-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).! O8 G4 M  g5 ]0 f5 `
•        Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.
4 w, W& X5 [6 n•        Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.- f4 P: Z" P! J- |+ g$ C

4 k/ G0 R" \9 `0 m* MVarious hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
0 S( \& o! U! u" Z7 K1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly: C% X- E$ p! v
Thereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly$ v! Q- c& `* Q/ e  v% u' W

SALARY RANGE:  401, Salary Grade: 004 $ k" |$ A* J; W
Training Rate:  $16.56 Hourly2 m) J( D" S( u. U) G% Z
Post Training Rate:  $20.36 - $25.45 Hourly
+ A5 m% T- |: y( J/ xThe rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
