' {/ c1 t4 ^8 H4 u& k, y# sEdmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

FUNCTIONS:
•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather
and traffic conditions.

& x9 `; k+ }  V8 y& f•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.
•        Ensure the safety of all passengers.

+ X8 v$ x0 P$ }8 b9 |0 w3 p& o8 w•        Communicate effectively in a variety of situations.

7 b6 Z% H. X- T+ XJOB REQUIREMENTS:
. y& Y3 h0 Z$ s6 C0 i- M•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
9 }% Q8 i; C' U" O2 l. F' bto be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger
& ?, r$ ]2 k4 Iof the day.
•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
) t" n% Z4 F- p4 L9 P" t•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
, ^. d# `' h6 n7 d* D9 e- s1 f1 W4 b! i" P0 M•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
: T" p; p2 c: w" t6 f•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
# M/ V% x, e/ T$ [8 ~9 ]showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
" N: y, y+ X: {" qvideo-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).
# T8 v$ r. }& a7 s3 F) }•        Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.
•        Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

HOURS OF WORK:
; |3 ]8 X, I/ c  ~+ y6 x) tVarious hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
( h6 ^) I% H# {1 }- u: u6 v1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
6 U6 K1 C2 Y9 q$ z& IThereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly

The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
