$ g8 ~5 f, k' k+ i0 jEdmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

, g5 a7 i9 G9 y# ^FUNCTIONS:
- `' T. f% N) B6 H1 Z% J1 T, q•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
* U( q, v& `8 R/ h( K1 @0 |7 {" ]•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather

( A* F8 r1 H! k- y( P# V4 W# \•        Adhere to schedules.
•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.
) k* {" ?0 p0 E4 z! q•        Ensure the safety of all passengers.
& |+ I: G* M2 q) L- z; Y•        Handle diverse and challenging situations.
•        Communicate effectively in a variety of situations.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
6 R, h7 z& Y  X2 X* H8 S•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
+ j! `* O" G, _, F* I•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
/ w4 G1 O/ }0 O* T9 r+ J" gto be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger
of the day.
•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
& @- U) [# X8 U+ b8 }, g•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
video-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).
•        Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.
' ?) _( S1 g9 f6 E: L2 v" i•        Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

HOURS OF WORK:
6 s7 K. i3 t$ j. J2 d5 W$ }Various hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
2 z) e7 p% j* u1 F. A8 D2 x8 j1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
% v: A# a+ f- X9 {( g8 N% x# pThereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly

SALARY RANGE:  401, Salary Grade: 004
Training Rate:  $16.56 Hourly
Post Training Rate:  $20.36 - $25.45 Hourly
The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
