/ j1 M  e% n2 ~* G6 cEdmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.& o, G/ D/ `# K* U5 f+ n( _

•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.: Z! N3 `1 s1 `0 w' z# R
•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.$ F! s6 ~1 j6 J9 ^( l; J7 W# j
•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.8 o4 c9 b9 N1 t  I& A
•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather

•        Adhere to schedules.0 s" y( Y6 B1 ^
•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations. " Y  x4 }5 C& a. K
•        Ensure the safety of all passengers.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
" t& U$ S4 \& b* u3 W1 @•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
5 O% b. @2 y' T$ S' G0 ^  O; k•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
' S* P  S0 C- P3 Rto be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger
( z1 ?3 Q3 A; E9 [# Hof the day.4 e( u% U$ b% a8 a; z4 Z
•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
) s1 l2 i) Q* t( V7 r+ v4 Z4 |8 X+ |•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
/ A2 f: t7 B! X" S  N•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
6 @6 z2 K# l5 I" C9 H7 s•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
( a' o. j) {' m# rshowing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period. 6 o; q3 A# E3 J
•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
6 v/ Y7 Q9 E/ a8 m0 y  qvideo-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).- ^$ q% O# b  j4 M) _6 w) _
•        Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.& M- F6 s3 }* O7 m9 y( A# H
•        Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

HOURS OF WORK:
% K3 v6 _4 i2 `7 b1 TVarious hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week , O7 o. w/ g9 d
1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
* B2 y- v2 g# m! u( F. |" mThereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly

# c4 F- J8 o* S/ j; H6 }+ ^4 w# ASALARY RANGE:  401, Salary Grade: 004 3 V6 d: {) ]# e1 K
Training Rate:  $16.56 Hourly# R0 y2 U# @& V8 i+ S1 }
Post Training Rate:  $20.36 - $25.45 Hourly" d: r  y7 K& H" b  X' a) \
The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
