5 A% [3 r. p: Z" k5 x. VJOB SUMMARY:  The Chief Returning Officer reports to the President of  
% @2 f. ?, V8 T, s, l( w, t0 Ythe Students' Union and oversees all electoral logistics as per Bylaw  
" ~# U9 A  M# Z4 W5 k4 Q+ d7 w2000.  The Chief Returning Officer shall be recommended to Students'  
Council in the manner set out in the Council Administration Committee  
# ~% B( ^/ _& x' O  [# oStanding Orders by April 15 and serve from May 1 to April 30 of the  
year following their appointment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

$ P/ w* l! J' Y; g: G0 L2 I, l1) To run the elections as per Bylaws 2000
; @4 C5 a% B5 u6 I6 Q- F1 m& j
2) To run referenda/plebiscites as per Bylaw 2000.

0 p; N9 R  g' t" ?( i5 r3) To choose the Deputy Returning Officer(s) and assign their duties.

4) To organize polls during elections/referenda, including appointing  
6 o8 d8 }* l: Hadequate poll staff and situating polls at appropriate locations  
across campus, and advertising the poll locations.

5) To oversee the physical count of the ballots during elections/
referenda.

* z, O  |/ N* p' J. A; d6) To report the result of an election/referendum to the appropriate  
# \4 |( Q* [$ L8 t8 k3 T; a9 nparties.

2 c: R. W& t( c  X/ O. _7) To facilitate classroom speaking arrangements during an election/
referendum.

To enforce budgetary regulations as stipulated in the Elections  
! h* R) K9 l4 u. C6 y8 mBylaw 2000.

! o  e1 ~! x/ ~4 H7 z  x# S# L" I10) To be available to all parties during elections/referenda for a  
minimum of four (4) working hours a day, between Monday to Friday,  
6 ]7 L0 y6 f& n; Nfrom the first working day after nominations close until the last day  
of voting.  These hours are to be posted in advance.

! z. O7 D( |5 _11) To act as the arbitrator in any dispute which may arise during  
  ?' Z/ N/ ]( }5 i4 ~, V- h' P5 {the course of an election/referendum.

12) To ensure that a cost effective and accurate ballot counting  
process is in place.

5 y7 q9 x0 I  j13) To submit to Students' Council, prior to April 30, a final report  
of activities and recommendations.

14) To organize a minimum of one (1) forum to be held during the week  
+ |$ W7 R9 q# H+ o0 xof campaigning.

15) Perform other job related duties as required by the Council  
Administration Committee.

QUALIFICATIONS:

# S" T( R- w4 C  P, t# @9 o1) Must be an undergrad student registered in at least one (1) course  
for each of the terms of Winter Session and shall be a full Students'  
9 I2 {" {2 f$ S' ]Union member.

2) Must have some experience in student elections.

9 {+ Q9 A$ v* ^; B' D; K  M* p( L3) Shall not concurrently hold a position on Students' Council, or  
any of its standing boards, committees, or any other paid position  
with the Students' Union.

6 Z4 T6 A( x( p5 S4) Willingness and ability to work varying hours.

+ n  U9 o6 w7 k+ U6 P+ T5) Excellent project management skills are required.

5) Ability to deal effectively with Students' Union and University  
staff, students and the general public.
