1 A- C$ K n8 t, V7 Z( p; D) k" bSpecific duties vary with positions and Departments and involve performing general labouring duties that may include:
( d3 k% t i+ ~9 p- |7 \* G, RDrainage Services, Asset Management & Public Works
& V% w5 M. ]+ f6 U• Construction of sewer lines, catch basins, access and drop manholes, watermains, feedmains, hydrants, ditches, water appurtenances, concrete structures such as storm outlets.
$ i5 y9 K0 ?8 P Z/ K• Digging holes and trenches by hand, excavation activities on major open cut projects ensuring placement of shoring, timbers, and struts; cutting, grinding levelling, jointing and laying of pipe.' x, R- C7 v6 w
• Repairing sewer services, main lines and pumping stations; cleaning sewer and drainage systems by low pressure flushing; assisting drainage servicemen in inspecting, rodding and televising sewer services; repairing manholes and catchbasins; assisting equipment operators in performing high pressure flushing and vaccuum cleaning activities., Y$ B: A4 y9 B1 K: [
Parks, Asset Management & Public Works
U! y: }9 T; N! A* H6 X: ~: S* o• Maintenance of parks: mowing, herbiciding and sanitation of turf, shrub and flower bed maintenance, marking & maintaining sports fields, playground inspections and servicing. g) A& a( @2 I
• Construction of parks: manual labour using hand tools such as shovels, rakes and stake pounders.
- o* ?/ S0 e+ i" t7 b• Park service and trail maintenance: including sanitation of picnic sites, amenity buildings, repair of signs, roadways, trail surfaces, irrigation & homeless camps.
% I/ a4 L! c# N4 E- Q) Q• Forestry operations including various arboriculture tasks- assist in the development and maintenance of the urban forest.- @+ E; F5 U, [# N, F7 `5 h. n: `2 ]+ S
• Pesticide Applicators license an asset.

Roadway Maintenance / Traffic Field Operations, Transportation4 e F( w' [3 S( T* k& z: F( E3 T
• Asphalt/concrete repairs, cracksealing, and paving.
& t# k7 e$ F% d2 W2 [• Performing structural concrete/steel duties on bridge maintenance (must be able to work heights).
& w0 C/ |: Y6 Q5 w. q( G• Pouring, spreading, tamping and leveling soil, sand, gravel and concrete.
. |. u: i, m, d4 a• Working in traffic during street construction/maintenance projects.

Recreation Facilities Branch, Community Services
7 D. z: u9 _) {/ w; q• Golf course, driving range, and park maintenance including turf mowing, fertilizer and pesticide application.; |+ S- G1 L/ Q
• Internments at cemetaries; concrete pouring of foundations and markers; monument restoration.
- N# |6 u" M {$ Q' U# Y {• Operating and performing minor maintenance with equipment such as: small hand tools, push lawn mowers, trimmers, edgers, small rototillers, and chain saws.

Functions of all positions:

• Assisting tradesman and other more experienced staff & performing other related duties as required.& r- n/ s, ~4 E
Job Requirements:
/ K2 P- u" o, W$ F0 D H• Completion of the eighth school grade or equivalent. Must be indicated on application/resume.
! A9 _! `4 ^8 I. ^ v, Z* @• Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Must be indicated on application/resume.: Q. B8 E+ Q2 R
• Applicants may be tested, and where required to operate a City vehicle, must attain a City of Edmonton driving permit upon appointment.( w5 e3 f; B% V
• Physically capable of performing heavy labour work for extended periods of time under various weather and traffic conditions.
* y( u, J+ r- w• Manual dexterity to operate simple hand and/or power tools and small equipment.6 J. a7 t; T) f4 z; g+ C' l' {. K
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

HOURS OF WORK: Up to 40 hours per week. Hours of work will vary with each position. These positions may be subject to shift work, providing coverage 7 days per week. Please indicate if you’re interested in shift work.
0 d, C* ?$ ]% `% G( u# FSALARY RANGE: 10M, Salary Grade: 013, starting at $15.11 (Hourly). Rates are based on employee status and length of service. The rates quoted are in accordance with an agreement between the Union and the City./ z! f+ Q/ ?- ~
