Specific duties vary with positions and Departments and involve performing general labouring duties that may include:
4 Q# v& g4 t6 EDrainage Services, Asset Management & Public Works
( p! h; G# v# ~" Z• Construction of sewer lines, catch basins, access and drop manholes, watermains, feedmains, hydrants, ditches, water appurtenances, concrete structures such as storm outlets.
0 e2 L8 V& R) x* R1 b! W7 L& m6 v; L• Digging holes and trenches by hand, excavation activities on major open cut projects ensuring placement of shoring, timbers, and struts; cutting, grinding levelling, jointing and laying of pipe., t' [: Z+ ^: {* m' L) G/ Q& L! `
• Repairing sewer services, main lines and pumping stations; cleaning sewer and drainage systems by low pressure flushing; assisting drainage servicemen in inspecting, rodding and televising sewer services; repairing manholes and catchbasins; assisting equipment operators in performing high pressure flushing and vaccuum cleaning activities.* ^% \( g9 J. z; _% i6 Z
Parks, Asset Management & Public Works: T9 G+ B' ] z* o
• Maintenance of parks: mowing, herbiciding and sanitation of turf, shrub and flower bed maintenance, marking & maintaining sports fields, playground inspections and servicing.
6 A7 c# F2 q7 i1 w• Construction of parks: manual labour using hand tools such as shovels, rakes and stake pounders.
) d. }, `2 _0 U3 g W( c• Park service and trail maintenance: including sanitation of picnic sites, amenity buildings, repair of signs, roadways, trail surfaces, irrigation & homeless camps.
+ G# u, T( `# o• Forestry operations including various arboriculture tasks- assist in the development and maintenance of the urban forest.3 z/ a% E/ Q6 n. K2 @
• Pesticide Applicators license an asset.

Roadway Maintenance / Traffic Field Operations, Transportation
( ^1 t1 q' p* I& s$ \7 S• Asphalt/concrete repairs, cracksealing, and paving.

• Pouring, spreading, tamping and leveling soil, sand, gravel and concrete.
4 \2 m8 z& a' ]$ p• Working in traffic during street construction/maintenance projects.
& C, `: d1 @3 I• Installation, maintenance and removal of road markings, traffic / detour control devices.# R1 S0 r! S, o0 y
Recreation Facilities Branch, Community Services! g3 n4 ~# B& c' q/ I* B: ?
• Golf course, driving range, and park maintenance including turf mowing, fertilizer and pesticide application.
" b! j. ~ C# H, P2 T- T• Internments at cemetaries; concrete pouring of foundations and markers; monument restoration.
8 B- c7 d6 u- @: \; u- K• Operating and performing minor maintenance with equipment such as: small hand tools, push lawn mowers, trimmers, edgers, small rototillers, and chain saws.

@: y3 R1 l. h7 g( L2 o• Assists with on-going general facility maintenance and cleaning at Recreation Facilities.

• Assisting tradesman and other more experienced staff & performing other related duties as required.

• Completion of the eighth school grade or equivalent. Must be indicated on application/resume.* I. h* t6 W3 s+ N0 d, ^4 ~8 T
• Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Must be indicated on application/resume.
! R7 |( K4 B( w) }; I• Applicants may be tested, and where required to operate a City vehicle, must attain a City of Edmonton driving permit upon appointment.
7 k7 C( U9 S) K& e" m1 j• Physically capable of performing heavy labour work for extended periods of time under various weather and traffic conditions./ J. n6 D4 D J# ?
• Manual dexterity to operate simple hand and/or power tools and small equipment.
' D9 Y8 B3 A* O8 B+ E {& j+ J• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
( Z5 ^( X# L5 R( F9 L* k• Team player & self-motivated, possibility of working alone on scheduled shift.
" e. v7 b2 u& h, r; k. RHOURS OF WORK: Up to 40 hours per week. Hours of work will vary with each position. These positions may be subject to shift work, providing coverage 7 days per week. Please indicate if you’re interested in shift work.
! ~+ @( {4 e4 L" \' QSALARY RANGE: 10M, Salary Grade: 013, starting at $15.11 (Hourly). Rates are based on employee status and length of service. The rates quoted are in accordance with an agreement between the Union and the City.
