Specific duties vary with positions and Departments and involve performing general labouring duties that may include:
7 _2 U& X3 f1 ]& c( CDrainage Services, Asset Management & Public Works7 h/ r0 n; {; F! I9 V& ~- M& O
• Construction of sewer lines, catch basins, access and drop manholes, watermains, feedmains, hydrants, ditches, water appurtenances, concrete structures such as storm outlets.
; a1 l+ R4 n+ @' L2 s5 m• Digging holes and trenches by hand, excavation activities on major open cut projects ensuring placement of shoring, timbers, and struts; cutting, grinding levelling, jointing and laying of pipe.& R, V. H) x0 ~8 l; ~, [& Z" e
• Repairing sewer services, main lines and pumping stations; cleaning sewer and drainage systems by low pressure flushing; assisting drainage servicemen in inspecting, rodding and televising sewer services; repairing manholes and catchbasins; assisting equipment operators in performing high pressure flushing and vaccuum cleaning activities.9 v$ \% m0 E9 f/ ?) z6 _
Parks, Asset Management & Public Works3 ~' X& B* Z: _/ |& d5 x
• Maintenance of parks: mowing, herbiciding and sanitation of turf, shrub and flower bed maintenance, marking & maintaining sports fields, playground inspections and servicing.
* X1 g8 T2 K2 e. n7 P• Construction of parks: manual labour using hand tools such as shovels, rakes and stake pounders.
) L& N3 T, U0 @# A! [• Park service and trail maintenance: including sanitation of picnic sites, amenity buildings, repair of signs, roadways, trail surfaces, irrigation & homeless camps.
! P! K6 C; |6 f" a6 d• Forestry operations including various arboriculture tasks- assist in the development and maintenance of the urban forest.
& `2 n, k" S% \& E• Pesticide Applicators license an asset.* M* j' B m D. I

Roadway Maintenance / Traffic Field Operations, Transportation

• Performing structural concrete/steel duties on bridge maintenance (must be able to work heights).

• Installation, maintenance and removal of road markings, traffic / detour control devices.

• Operating and performing minor maintenance with equipment such as: small hand tools, push lawn mowers, trimmers, edgers, small rototillers, and chain saws.

Job Requirements:
' L$ J f# U3 T5 ]8 ?3 i. L+ i• Completion of the eighth school grade or equivalent. Must be indicated on application/resume.
) W2 C0 q. ]9 n7 X1 \) J• Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Must be indicated on application/resume.4 c- j; S$ ^" r5 Y5 n
• Applicants may be tested, and where required to operate a City vehicle, must attain a City of Edmonton driving permit upon appointment.5 @/ `' b# j: M; i# x. L1 ~% q7 o
• Physically capable of performing heavy labour work for extended periods of time under various weather and traffic conditions.$ ~* K8 q6 b+ K P! |9 T
• Manual dexterity to operate simple hand and/or power tools and small equipment.1 u" y9 H) {; M+ A$ \! O; F9 B
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
$ `/ V6 c. C; j1 ? K• Team player & self-motivated, possibility of working alone on scheduled shift.
% h! c& [4 g: AHOURS OF WORK: Up to 40 hours per week. Hours of work will vary with each position. These positions may be subject to shift work, providing coverage 7 days per week. Please indicate if you’re interested in shift work.
, f# c0 V- Q) k" WSALARY RANGE: 10M, Salary Grade: 013, starting at $15.11 (Hourly). Rates are based on employee status and length of service. The rates quoted are in accordance with an agreement between the Union and the City.
