Specific duties vary with positions and Departments and involve performing general labouring duties that may include:
7 _2 U& X3 f1 ]& c( CDrainage Services, Asset Management & Public Works
•        Construction of sewer lines, catch basins, access and drop manholes, watermains, feedmains, hydrants, ditches, water appurtenances, concrete structures such as storm outlets.
; a1 l+ R4 n+ @' L2 s5 m•        Digging holes and trenches by hand, excavation activities on major open cut projects ensuring placement of shoring, timbers, and struts; cutting, grinding levelling, jointing and laying of pipe.
•        Repairing sewer services, main lines and pumping stations; cleaning sewer and drainage systems by low pressure flushing; assisting drainage servicemen in inspecting, rodding and televising sewer services; repairing manholes and catchbasins; assisting equipment operators in performing high pressure flushing and vaccuum cleaning activities.
Parks, Asset Management & Public Works
•        Maintenance of parks: mowing, herbiciding and sanitation of turf, shrub and flower bed maintenance, marking & maintaining sports fields, playground inspections and servicing.
* X1 g8 T2 K2 e. n7 P•        Construction of parks: manual labour using hand tools such as shovels, rakes and stake pounders.
) L& N3 T, U0 @# A! [•        Park service and trail maintenance: including sanitation of picnic sites, amenity buildings, repair of signs, roadways, trail surfaces, irrigation & homeless camps.
! P! K6 C; |6 f" a6 d•        Forestry operations including various arboriculture tasks- assist in the development and maintenance of the urban forest.
& `2 n, k" S% \& E•        Pesticide Applicators license an asset.
•        Labourers may be provided with rate up opportunities where required.
Roadway Maintenance / Traffic Field Operations, Transportation
2 D. _4 a+ P% B0 d0 x+ ~  W•        Asphalt/concrete repairs, cracksealing, and paving.
•        Performing structural concrete/steel duties on bridge maintenance (must be able to work heights).
$ k* n7 O$ q8 x/ Y8 f- M6 K•        Pouring, spreading, tamping and leveling soil, sand, gravel and concrete.
. e. i- b# i: P•        Working in traffic during street construction/maintenance projects.
•        Installation, maintenance and removal of road markings, traffic / detour control devices.
& c+ c+ l+ c- x& w5 \- MRecreation Facilities Branch, Community Services
8 o# M/ |: w: n/ {" `, Q8 }" i( T/ c•        Golf course, driving range, and park maintenance including turf mowing, fertilizer and pesticide application.
- b9 d* r& B$ J! Q1 U' Y+ _•        Internments at cemetaries; concrete pouring of foundations and markers; monument restoration.
•        Operating and performing minor maintenance with equipment such as: small hand tools, push lawn mowers, trimmers, edgers, small rototillers, and chain saws.
& b: G2 Q. |8 {2 w. f" a. A•        Set up and take down of furniture and equipment for events and bookings at Recreation Facilities.
4 k3 V- S5 Y+ ?) L; z•        Assists with on-going general facility maintenance and cleaning at Recreation Facilities.

8 G' B6 Q/ n) o; q0 {" ]•        Loading and unloading materials from trucks.
•        Assisting tradesman and other more experienced staff & performing other related duties as required.
Job Requirements:
' L$ J  f# U3 T5 ]8 ?3 i. L+ i•        Completion of the eighth school grade or equivalent.  Must be indicated on application/resume.
) W2 C0 q. ]9 n7 X1 \) J•        Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Must be indicated on application/resume.
•        Applicants may be tested, and where required to operate a City vehicle, must attain a City of Edmonton driving permit upon appointment.
•        Physically capable of performing heavy labour work for extended periods of time under various weather and traffic conditions.
•        Manual dexterity to operate simple hand and/or power tools and small equipment.
•        Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
$ `/ V6 c. C; j1 ?  K•        Team player & self-motivated, possibility of working alone on scheduled shift.
% h! c& [4 g: AHOURS OF WORK: Up to 40 hours per week. Hours of work will vary with each position.  These positions may be subject to shift work, providing coverage 7 days per week.  Please indicate if you’re interested in shift work.
, f# c0 V- Q) k" WSALARY RANGE: 10M, Salary Grade: 013, starting at $15.11 (Hourly).  Rates are based on employee status and length of service. The rates quoted are in accordance with an agreement between the Union and the City.
