6 i# L$ v W; D5 K/ L0 r# _Specific duties vary with positions and Departments and involve performing general labouring duties that may include:

" c: F1 f7 ~9 `& B. o* w• Construction of sewer lines, catch basins, access and drop manholes, watermains, feedmains, hydrants, ditches, water appurtenances, concrete structures such as storm outlets.
) o8 T% C5 \# E+ h/ T' O• Digging holes and trenches by hand, excavation activities on major open cut projects ensuring placement of shoring, timbers, and struts; cutting, grinding levelling, jointing and laying of pipe., z, T9 W' D1 c
• Repairing sewer services, main lines and pumping stations; cleaning sewer and drainage systems by low pressure flushing; assisting drainage servicemen in inspecting, rodding and televising sewer services; repairing manholes and catchbasins; assisting equipment operators in performing high pressure flushing and vaccuum cleaning activities.

• Maintenance of parks: mowing, herbiciding and sanitation of turf, shrub and flower bed maintenance, marking & maintaining sports fields, playground inspections and servicing. 8 `. r. J" H$ v- P$ X
• Construction of parks: manual labour using hand tools such as shovels, rakes and stake pounders.- e7 I7 W1 |$ O8 t; q; d3 a
• Park service and trail maintenance: including sanitation of picnic sites, amenity buildings, repair of signs, roadways, trail surfaces, irrigation & homeless camps.
# V* b! j1 u8 h' b• Forestry operations including various arboriculture tasks- assist in the development and maintenance of the urban forest.
x2 B/ L" D5 G1 `6 w& Q• Pesticide Applicators license an asset.

• Asphalt/concrete repairs, cracksealing, and paving.
; M- C7 v+ K, N: ]• Performing structural concrete/steel duties on bridge maintenance (must be able to work heights).* p) w& N4 u' k; q3 r8 Q$ f) N
• Pouring, spreading, tamping and leveling soil, sand, gravel and concrete./ m6 u( v! \% `) j9 e; f6 w' F! f
• Working in traffic during street construction/maintenance projects.

! Q* E8 ~7 N( w' D$ u M• Internments at cemetaries; concrete pouring of foundations and markers; monument restoration.
5 ?0 X; _% e) q; K5 u' I' j9 _% p• Operating and performing minor maintenance with equipment such as: small hand tools, push lawn mowers, trimmers, edgers, small rototillers, and chain saws.

• Assists with on-going general facility maintenance and cleaning at Recreation Facilities.. L2 W9 |, n4 s3 l

• Loading and unloading materials from trucks.

# ?; L, a% E" p$ U ]* K• Completion of the eighth school grade or equivalent. Must be indicated on application/resume.6 x+ `0 `" ]5 s! h# j
• Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Must be indicated on application/resume.
' v# P$ M8 {, g- M% o$ _" U+ G• Applicants may be tested, and where required to operate a City vehicle, must attain a City of Edmonton driving permit upon appointment.2 n# o6 c. L J& f, D
• Physically capable of performing heavy labour work for extended periods of time under various weather and traffic conditions.
1 H* k: w0 e# m# v7 w$ S1 z• Manual dexterity to operate simple hand and/or power tools and small equipment.3 c7 Y* n# X0 h# ~ E3 e
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.$ s. i' {( W" H, E& U( |2 U# Q
• Team player & self-motivated, possibility of working alone on scheduled shift.- k" \# Z4 n9 X" i2 V, |% {8 n$ i9 D
HOURS OF WORK: Up to 40 hours per week. Hours of work will vary with each position. These positions may be subject to shift work, providing coverage 7 days per week. Please indicate if you’re interested in shift work.
* v, }0 J c# q2 k& u* ^- E8 \: ~, q6 YSALARY RANGE: 10M, Salary Grade: 013, starting at $15.11 (Hourly). Rates are based on employee status and length of service. The rates quoted are in accordance with an agreement between the Union and the City.
