Specific duties vary with positions and Departments and involve performing general labouring duties that may include:( M7 _) Z, G: p* G2 H+ a
Drainage Services, Asset Management & Public Works0 b6 S' i* |. _! C# Q
• Construction of sewer lines, catch basins, access and drop manholes, watermains, feedmains, hydrants, ditches, water appurtenances, concrete structures such as storm outlets.
: a0 {! U- q R• Digging holes and trenches by hand, excavation activities on major open cut projects ensuring placement of shoring, timbers, and struts; cutting, grinding levelling, jointing and laying of pipe.- V. m9 I" T! }0 c
• Repairing sewer services, main lines and pumping stations; cleaning sewer and drainage systems by low pressure flushing; assisting drainage servicemen in inspecting, rodding and televising sewer services; repairing manholes and catchbasins; assisting equipment operators in performing high pressure flushing and vaccuum cleaning activities.5 [" M! p' E% m; Y/ |/ u: T
Parks, Asset Management & Public Works
: X1 w3 E3 b$ G4 Z4 d• Maintenance of parks: mowing, herbiciding and sanitation of turf, shrub and flower bed maintenance, marking & maintaining sports fields, playground inspections and servicing.
4 N. O. \& y% {1 e• Construction of parks: manual labour using hand tools such as shovels, rakes and stake pounders.5 V; c) s. x# @' E
• Park service and trail maintenance: including sanitation of picnic sites, amenity buildings, repair of signs, roadways, trail surfaces, irrigation & homeless camps.9 F2 n6 E9 ^) l% r8 N2 y( e. i) L
• Forestry operations including various arboriculture tasks- assist in the development and maintenance of the urban forest.

• Asphalt/concrete repairs, cracksealing, and paving.6 D1 o2 S- I% I4 x0 b) g
• Performing structural concrete/steel duties on bridge maintenance (must be able to work heights).

• Working in traffic during street construction/maintenance projects.0 e% k8 F r \7 m" \
• Installation, maintenance and removal of road markings, traffic / detour control devices.

• Golf course, driving range, and park maintenance including turf mowing, fertilizer and pesticide application.6 _# ?* M; n. G8 w% a
• Internments at cemetaries; concrete pouring of foundations and markers; monument restoration. K+ O. f/ t& B u4 D+ }
• Operating and performing minor maintenance with equipment such as: small hand tools, push lawn mowers, trimmers, edgers, small rototillers, and chain saws.

• Assists with on-going general facility maintenance and cleaning at Recreation Facilities.$ ~! g8 R- ? ~/ t

• Loading and unloading materials from trucks.6 J+ m: C- M! t6 |% h
• Assisting tradesman and other more experienced staff & performing other related duties as required.

• Completion of the eighth school grade or equivalent. Must be indicated on application/resume.
$ A" \; u& |+ }2 k• Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Must be indicated on application/resume.
; _9 V' b% e/ o6 g7 c• Applicants may be tested, and where required to operate a City vehicle, must attain a City of Edmonton driving permit upon appointment.7 M) n+ p9 m7 [% [5 a
• Physically capable of performing heavy labour work for extended periods of time under various weather and traffic conditions.
: |' i8 O) g7 d% h* i( M& p/ J• Manual dexterity to operate simple hand and/or power tools and small equipment.
% O' \7 W- ^# r' ~# V) f• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.- u; x( K* {+ w) s, Z
• Team player & self-motivated, possibility of working alone on scheduled shift.3 {/ m! ?0 d) l/ E3 R0 ]& C) w1 U
HOURS OF WORK: Up to 40 hours per week. Hours of work will vary with each position. These positions may be subject to shift work, providing coverage 7 days per week. Please indicate if you’re interested in shift work.
/ `0 C7 `: ]- |& l0 dSALARY RANGE: 10M, Salary Grade: 013, starting at $15.11 (Hourly). Rates are based on employee status and length of service. The rates quoted are in accordance with an agreement between the Union and the City.7 C6 [1 H! [7 ?8 W5 A$ L8 D7 Q0 Y
