1 A- C$ K  n8 t, V7 Z( p; D) k" bSpecific duties vary with positions and Departments and involve performing general labouring duties that may include:
( d3 k% t  i+ ~9 p- |7 \* G, RDrainage Services, Asset Management & Public Works
& V% w5 M. ]+ f6 U•        Construction of sewer lines, catch basins, access and drop manholes, watermains, feedmains, hydrants, ditches, water appurtenances, concrete structures such as storm outlets.
$ i5 y9 K0 ?8 P  Z/ K•        Digging holes and trenches by hand, excavation activities on major open cut projects ensuring placement of shoring, timbers, and struts; cutting, grinding levelling, jointing and laying of pipe.
•        Repairing sewer services, main lines and pumping stations; cleaning sewer and drainage systems by low pressure flushing; assisting drainage servicemen in inspecting, rodding and televising sewer services; repairing manholes and catchbasins; assisting equipment operators in performing high pressure flushing and vaccuum cleaning activities.
Parks, Asset Management & Public Works
  U! y: }9 T; N! A* H6 X: ~: S* o•        Maintenance of parks: mowing, herbiciding and sanitation of turf, shrub and flower bed maintenance, marking & maintaining sports fields, playground inspections and servicing.
•        Construction of parks: manual labour using hand tools such as shovels, rakes and stake pounders.
- o* ?/ S0 e+ i" t7 b•        Park service and trail maintenance: including sanitation of picnic sites, amenity buildings, repair of signs, roadways, trail surfaces, irrigation & homeless camps.
% I/ a4 L! c# N4 E- Q) Q•        Forestry operations including various arboriculture tasks- assist in the development and maintenance of the urban forest.
•        Pesticide Applicators license an asset.
8 Z: [" v1 M2 M0 l3 f8 P•        Labourers may be provided with rate up opportunities where required.
Roadway Maintenance / Traffic Field Operations, Transportation
•        Asphalt/concrete repairs, cracksealing, and paving.
& t# k7 e$ F% d2 W2 [•        Performing structural concrete/steel duties on bridge maintenance (must be able to work heights).
& w0 C/ |: Y6 Q5 w. q( G•        Pouring, spreading, tamping and leveling soil, sand, gravel and concrete.
. |. u: i, m, d4 a•        Working in traffic during street construction/maintenance projects.
  \' e7 H* \9 P" j9 p- ^•        Installation, maintenance and removal of road markings, traffic / detour control devices.
Recreation Facilities Branch, Community Services
7 D. z: u9 _) {/ w; q•        Golf course, driving range, and park maintenance including turf mowing, fertilizer and pesticide application.
•        Internments at cemetaries; concrete pouring of foundations and markers; monument restoration.
- N# |6 u" M  {$ Q' U# Y  {•        Operating and performing minor maintenance with equipment such as: small hand tools, push lawn mowers, trimmers, edgers, small rototillers, and chain saws.
' M0 V7 ]4 r/ X! t: F' G6 l" ?•        Set up and take down of furniture and equipment for events and bookings at Recreation Facilities.
: t9 S* Q& V2 x5 t•        Assists with on-going general facility maintenance and cleaning at Recreation Facilities.
Functions of all positions:
; R% ], d' ^* ^/ N' _7 }•        Loading and unloading materials from trucks.
•        Assisting tradesman and other more experienced staff & performing other related duties as required.
Job Requirements:
/ K2 P- u" o, W$ F0 D  H•        Completion of the eighth school grade or equivalent.  Must be indicated on application/resume.
! A9 _! `4 ^8 I. ^  v, Z* @•        Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Must be indicated on application/resume.
•        Applicants may be tested, and where required to operate a City vehicle, must attain a City of Edmonton driving permit upon appointment.
•        Physically capable of performing heavy labour work for extended periods of time under various weather and traffic conditions.
* y( u, J+ r- w•        Manual dexterity to operate simple hand and/or power tools and small equipment.
•        Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  m" K0 J- V" X' b) h: e& P% ?•        Team player & self-motivated, possibility of working alone on scheduled shift.
HOURS OF WORK: Up to 40 hours per week. Hours of work will vary with each position.  These positions may be subject to shift work, providing coverage 7 days per week.  Please indicate if you’re interested in shift work.
0 d, C* ?$ ]% `% G( u# FSALARY RANGE: 10M, Salary Grade: 013, starting at $15.11 (Hourly).  Rates are based on employee status and length of service. The rates quoted are in accordance with an agreement between the Union and the City.
