% R. j( t6 q7 K, W6 v) Y% FEdmonton...Alberta students aged eight, 11 and 14 are now eligible to receive a $100 grant from the Alberta government in their Registered Education Savings Plan (RESP) beginning January 1, 2007. To qualify, families must put in at least $100 into a student's RESP within one year prior to applying for the Alberta Centennial Education Savings Plan grant with an RESP provider. The $100 RESP grant is retroactive to 2005 and there is a six-year window to apply for the grant.0 c O, p* U7 `; l' y0 j

"This program gives Alberta parents an incentive to continue saving for their child's education and recognizes the Alberta government's commitment to promote the importance of post-secondary education, whether it's to pursue a college diploma, trade certificate or university degree," said Advanced Education and Technology Minister Doug Horner.

Savings programs like RESPs build an expectation in parents and their child for pursuing post-secondary studies. Research shows that 80 per cent of children with RESPs go on to a post-secondary education.& y* e. ], d x( a% \
