I'd like to invite people to join our new Community Dialogue project.
! o$ d- {! y9 jIn phase 1 we have a couple of extra spots available for Community, r- ]# |5 k. F& z, e" M7 M; n$ b6 W' b
Engagement Training.

We can accept a few people to join us this Friday (3~6 p.m.)and Saturday,9 E9 u' i2 f8 s+ I
(9~3 p.m. ) to improve skills in building multicultural neighbourhood
3 h& l B1 |0 S+ d- Fgroups. We're especially focused on developing groups that can work3 I0 |& J' j5 }' z: t/ H R+ E
together across cultures to create community projects and Action for Healthy
4 g0 y- H2 H5 m8 v4 mCommunities can often support these projects with funding of up to $1,000.0 W9 i4 l& \: ], o. |( [& m/ e" H

Pacific, "Bougainville Sky" is the story of how music helped overcome years
. S+ K: c9 Z8 t3 V& t( sof fear and distrust to rebuild peace in a war torn society. When bitter6 _* z& Q- o1 s2 C
conflict on Bougainville Island ended in 1997, the combatants invited the
+ I! Y6 c% J+ }international community to send in a Peacekeeping force on one condition:
6 J4 x" u2 V3 R Ithey come unarmed. Amongst the Peacekeepers was young Australian songwriter
, Y7 U D' ]( _) h% n/ IIain Campbell Smith, whose music and radio program became a legend on the+ y1 A7 N) i7 \
island and contributed to the success of the world¹s first unarmed+ b1 g6 @) A3 f3 l; `8 u
international peacekeeping operation.8 n' h' ~0 R% f" E$ W1 G3 h0 G
% V, s9 g5 ~& R( g& zThis beautifully shot film allows the Bougainvillean people to tell their
+ K* D4 J- m! |4 \$ Z0 Y4 ^' V/ ]own story and captures the struggles, the strength and the humor of a people/ D& P: \6 y0 F' ~
who brought themselves back from the chaos of war. At a time when our TV
' V: r4 H- }# l' ~9 Jscreens are filled with images from the interventions in Iraq and. b7 z4 v) L; `% L: M" J% e+ p
Afghanistan, the success story of the Bougainville peace process seems
/ a4 C& u. _/ \2 d: p3 ?improbable: an unarmed international intervention fostering local customs
' U) v9 P# y% T9 \; ?( Z6 Fand music to strengthen an indigenous-run peace process < and it worked!* y' D- S6 x |6 O6 p
5 S* v8 P4 |* I6 f8 k' `7 `
According to Smith "the fact that we were unarmed was critical to the0 [ |+ }1 P) T
success of the peace process in Bougainville. It set the tone for the whole
) P, K% W; y# p2 {process, and put responsibility for the safety of the Peacekeepers in the
/ B! l! }; e% t& A7 L3 ahands of the militants and the people, rather than the other way around.: }3 o) |: i4 H* T7 ~6 t$ V1 l8 ~' w
Also, because we were unarmed we couldn't scare anyone into doing anything,+ x% \6 O( D; _ m l
so we learned to communicate instead. That's where music came in."9 B/ g& a2 Z" m+ A C
