/ ]: r [) n& X# Q" C: yAn Edmonton-based trucking coming is facing $3 million dollars worth of fines under the Traffic Safety Act for allegedly operating overweight vehicles on city roads.4 d, m* Q& s0 A* Z
A police investigation revealed that between August 15 and September 19, the unnamed company made 1,907 trips to the waste management facility located on Yellowhead Trail and 170 Street.
5 k) f) V6 g( R' ~6 K; D1 IPolice say the trucks were transporting loads that were overweight by a least one tonne each visit. One truck was recorded as being 17.9 tonnes overweight.6 e& u+ L" `% W' v" p5 P
"The company is facing a fine of just over $3 million dollars," said EPS Const. Dave Beattie. "It's a big fine, I'll give you that, but for the police it's not about the value of the fine, it's about keeping these roads safe."8 T6 [/ M' p! `$ D7 {5 A* T* Z
Beattie explains that with overweight vehicles, braking can be a problem.
