An Edmonton-based trucking coming is facing $3 million dollars worth of fines under the Traffic Safety Act for allegedly operating overweight vehicles on city roads.
! C, p4 x6 S& oA police investigation revealed that between August 15 and September 19, the unnamed company made 1,907 trips to the waste management facility located on Yellowhead Trail and 170 Street.
4 B' [: G* i* F' m# K; a/ T" D9 k: XPolice say the trucks were transporting loads that were overweight by a least one tonne each visit. One truck was recorded as being 17.9 tonnes overweight.2 J. @( r7 N6 J5 Q# Y
"The company is facing a fine of just over $3 million dollars," said EPS Const. Dave Beattie. "It's a big fine, I'll give you that, but for the police it's not about the value of the fine, it's about keeping these roads safe."9 {$ U$ r. }' z+ n/ G

Beattie added that roadways can be destroyed by overweight vehicles since they cause cracks and potholes.
