An Edmonton-based trucking coming is facing $3 million dollars worth of fines under the Traffic Safety Act for allegedly operating overweight vehicles on city roads.5 U& D% d5 r# i$ M# x* Q0 R
A police investigation revealed that between August 15 and September 19, the unnamed company made 1,907 trips to the waste management facility located on Yellowhead Trail and 170 Street.
2 {0 m0 p& D7 m( R$ @Police say the trucks were transporting loads that were overweight by a least one tonne each visit. One truck was recorded as being 17.9 tonnes overweight.
5 r, \+ \/ x6 P"The company is facing a fine of just over $3 million dollars," said EPS Const. Dave Beattie. "It's a big fine, I'll give you that, but for the police it's not about the value of the fine, it's about keeping these roads safe."' t$ n& b& }1 ~+ [ p* ?0 e# j" w# J; w
Beattie explains that with overweight vehicles, braking can be a problem.
