An Edmonton-based trucking coming is facing $3 million dollars worth of fines under the Traffic Safety Act for allegedly operating overweight vehicles on city roads.
& X9 O, B1 {/ H0 v5 I% GA police investigation revealed that between August 15 and September 19, the unnamed company made 1,907 trips to the waste management facility located on Yellowhead Trail and 170 Street./ f: v$ }' `& y7 r
Police say the trucks were transporting loads that were overweight by a least one tonne each visit. One truck was recorded as being 17.9 tonnes overweight.+ c7 z4 i" p3 o! B3 Q& s x
"The company is facing a fine of just over $3 million dollars," said EPS Const. Dave Beattie. "It's a big fine, I'll give you that, but for the police it's not about the value of the fine, it's about keeping these roads safe."5 J7 j0 w/ d' r2 ^3 x* t8 J' M7 ?
Beattie explains that with overweight vehicles, braking can be a problem.
