An Edmonton-based trucking coming is facing $3 million dollars worth of fines under the Traffic Safety Act for allegedly operating overweight vehicles on city roads.5 K" q% F7 Q2 P2 y+ M6 g6 U0 R
A police investigation revealed that between August 15 and September 19, the unnamed company made 1,907 trips to the waste management facility located on Yellowhead Trail and 170 Street.- j/ W6 a0 u1 I5 V i6 J
Police say the trucks were transporting loads that were overweight by a least one tonne each visit. One truck was recorded as being 17.9 tonnes overweight.$ o6 Q( [" O! j) g
"The company is facing a fine of just over $3 million dollars," said EPS Const. Dave Beattie. "It's a big fine, I'll give you that, but for the police it's not about the value of the fine, it's about keeping these roads safe."6 C2 K( w! E) ?$ {! a9 @9 O& R. [9 D
Beattie explains that with overweight vehicles, braking can be a problem.8 z, A2 U4 p$ S
