4 k: x0 T, h' i4 J) `! MAn Edmonton-based trucking coming is facing $3 million dollars worth of fines under the Traffic Safety Act for allegedly operating overweight vehicles on city roads. ?5 L8 v( M( z; {
A police investigation revealed that between August 15 and September 19, the unnamed company made 1,907 trips to the waste management facility located on Yellowhead Trail and 170 Street.
# [5 B2 c u8 p+ {4 ]* z zPolice say the trucks were transporting loads that were overweight by a least one tonne each visit. One truck was recorded as being 17.9 tonnes overweight. T9 j: z. x1 J" l
"The company is facing a fine of just over $3 million dollars," said EPS Const. Dave Beattie. "It's a big fine, I'll give you that, but for the police it's not about the value of the fine, it's about keeping these roads safe."7 ^) W7 S! X& O% }

"The last thing I'm sure you, and any of us want, is to be in front of a vehicle that is basically 17 tonnes over what it's allowed to be on the road when you stop at a red light."
