An Edmonton-based trucking coming is facing $3 million dollars worth of fines under the Traffic Safety Act for allegedly operating overweight vehicles on city roads.
9 U7 L3 S1 m$ e. vA police investigation revealed that between August 15 and September 19, the unnamed company made 1,907 trips to the waste management facility located on Yellowhead Trail and 170 Street.
) g. [4 t. D- `4 m. Q! B/ dPolice say the trucks were transporting loads that were overweight by a least one tonne each visit. One truck was recorded as being 17.9 tonnes overweight.+ {; X2 N) Q4 t4 R0 U R- e
"The company is facing a fine of just over $3 million dollars," said EPS Const. Dave Beattie. "It's a big fine, I'll give you that, but for the police it's not about the value of the fine, it's about keeping these roads safe.") T2 b9 |. z: B6 b# ~; t
Beattie explains that with overweight vehicles, braking can be a problem.
