An Edmonton-based trucking coming is facing $3 million dollars worth of fines under the Traffic Safety Act for allegedly operating overweight vehicles on city roads.# t m+ r' a2 }4 d9 u( @2 n4 p
A police investigation revealed that between August 15 and September 19, the unnamed company made 1,907 trips to the waste management facility located on Yellowhead Trail and 170 Street.
5 H( a; R5 g4 P% m- {- VPolice say the trucks were transporting loads that were overweight by a least one tonne each visit. One truck was recorded as being 17.9 tonnes overweight.# Y3 T) y6 @- i
"The company is facing a fine of just over $3 million dollars," said EPS Const. Dave Beattie. "It's a big fine, I'll give you that, but for the police it's not about the value of the fine, it's about keeping these roads safe."% k6 w0 r9 f. ^1 ^
Beattie explains that with overweight vehicles, braking can be a problem.

The company is due in court on Thursday, December 3.
