. e5 C: Q$ b, F. H$ u' \An Edmonton-based trucking coming is facing $3 million dollars worth of fines under the Traffic Safety Act for allegedly operating overweight vehicles on city roads.) o. Q4 {3 K( F9 e3 m4 K" O
A police investigation revealed that between August 15 and September 19, the unnamed company made 1,907 trips to the waste management facility located on Yellowhead Trail and 170 Street.
; K9 M/ k. z; _; DPolice say the trucks were transporting loads that were overweight by a least one tonne each visit. One truck was recorded as being 17.9 tonnes overweight.
/ i" a8 }! ^1 h K& C/ l/ e$ H"The company is facing a fine of just over $3 million dollars," said EPS Const. Dave Beattie. "It's a big fine, I'll give you that, but for the police it's not about the value of the fine, it's about keeping these roads safe." e8 p& D1 V9 ^
Beattie explains that with overweight vehicles, braking can be a problem.
