　　A thousand leagues of whirling snow.

　　Both sides of the Great Wall

" k4 A2 |8 q; A  G5 e$ J4 x　　One single white immensity.

　　The Yellow River"s swift current

* M: n+ X- B0 ^6 ^1 Y8 L" |5 r　　Is stilled from end to end.

) k1 y7 ?* v* |, ^4 c: K　　The mountains dance like silver snakes
% v, Z- ~6 `9 r
　　And the highlands* charge like wax-hued elephants,

5 C! h) z) Z8 O　　Vying with heaven in stature.

　　On a fine day, the land,

　　Clad in white, adorned in red,

　　This land so rich in beauty

　　But alas! Chin Shih-huang and Han Wu-ti

  t' L. {3 {1 H  x  _# I& d! ~　　Were lacking in literary grace,

4 j# i1 l  ]0 w( n! [* T+ l3 H! t4 l　　And Tang Tai-tsung and Sung Tai-tsu

# c' o1 u8 Z# x　　Had little poetry in their souls;
+ i- X& N* X: m2 z: l( ~- f: a　　And Genghis Khan,

3 O8 u0 t/ N. ]4 S! h　　Proud Son of Heaven for a day,

0 h( E$ a# ]1 t5 F　　Knew only shooting eagles, bow outstretched

　　All are past and gone!

　　For truly great men
