) f1 u7 _! C' r4 iFront of the Class is a 2008 American drama film based on the book by Brad Cohen, Front of the Class: How Tourette Syndrome Made Me the Teacher I Never Had, co-authored by Lisa Wysocky.

As a child with Tourette’s, Brad Cohen was ridiculed, beaten, mocked, and shunned. Other children, teachers, and even sometimes family members found it difficult to be around him. His mother’s encouragement and his brother’s support were key elements that kept him going. College and then job hunting brought new challenges, but he continued to strive toward his goal to be a teacher and was rewarded when he was named Georgia’s First Class Teacher of the Year.

5 N2 X( e& V! W- I9 O* f/ ZEveryone is born different, but we tend to dislike people who are different from us. I admire the principal who was not only open minded to differences, but was also able to educate the whole school to acknowledge and appreciate the differences that all people have.  We need to build an environment that celebrates differences. In my opinion, the Western culture seems to encourage being more different than our traditional values.

In fact our culture has more sayings about being confident in oneself and persevering in one's dream. Brad Cohen would not be a good teacher in the eyes of most people, but he did not think so. He was frustrated when people told him that Tourette Syndromes would make him impossible to be teacher. Nevertheless, he did not give up. He would never let the TS win.
