EDMONTON — The West Edmonton Mall has reopened after police investigated a suspicious package Tuesday morning.
% @: x, u! \- ]0 g& u/ X) [0 d3 b, e( g% o( h# E
The item, which turned out to be a DVD player, was reported to police just after 8:30 a.m. and officers swooped in to shut down entrances to the shopping centre.: x) D+ H, P: U/ {6 d, |5 l
) n/ D3 u3 H7 t+ ?' i
Police evacuated the mall, and a short time later determined the package was merely a DVD player left on a bench outside the SportCheck store.: W- M; X/ D4 R9 n

"I think we made a very measured response and dealt with the safely issues appropriately," said Staff Sgt. Steve Jones. "We just contained an area within the mall."2 x4 y6 l7 V( d
