EDMONTON — The West Edmonton Mall has reopened after police investigated a suspicious package Tuesday morning.

0 S5 r! H$ K* S6 c9 ^7 ~The item, which turned out to be a DVD player, was reported to police just after 8:30 a.m. and officers swooped in to shut down entrances to the shopping centre.

Police evacuated the mall, and a short time later determined the package was merely a DVD player left on a bench outside the SportCheck store.+ V! t0 Z/ W$ h/ d
1 H X+ `6 E# O"I think we made a very measured response and dealt with the safely issues appropriately," said Staff Sgt. Steve Jones. "We just contained an area within the mall."$ d4 @$ l/ h7 P& O
