EDMONTON — The West Edmonton Mall has reopened after police investigated a suspicious package Tuesday morning.3 Y" A1 H* v7 o
! y( o" Z/ o$ P% u: G; {. K
The item, which turned out to be a DVD player, was reported to police just after 8:30 a.m. and officers swooped in to shut down entrances to the shopping centre.

8 L, l; [0 M: _$ K! mPolice evacuated the mall, and a short time later determined the package was merely a DVD player left on a bench outside the SportCheck store.

"I think we made a very measured response and dealt with the safely issues appropriately," said Staff Sgt. Steve Jones. "We just contained an area within the mall."
