T.A.N.G. Youth Program is an educational and activity-based program aiming to equip
- g2 ~% B) L5 W# {* L. K. nAsian youth to make healthy and safe choice. Recreational challenges, volunteering ! X3 T+ F% N2 A! U1 R# z
opportunities, leadership training, as well as educational sessions on
& O6 H* {) `% d8 \' ~: ointerpersonal skills, anger management, personal development,
2 N) w  k1 O! k, K  h0 A2 z, Dand  Canadian-Asian culture are some of the ways in which this goal is achieved.

. _+ `4 A5 L! G; Z( NWhat will take place in the sessions?8 x# f" R+ U) i2 F# x6 k% s
Each session presents concepts through interactive activities that encourage active discussion and participation.% D0 t% q9 _9 Q. C) M

3 ^1 [1 c1 E6 F/ B" E# \These activities will enable youth to:
- e$ Y( e1 d$ G# F0 o+ N Explore personal interests in arts and recreation
" T, D% j  {/ |+ i$ z% n2 w- N* r Learn how to access community services and programs
7 r2 l; |, \0 Z) ^% K Develop self-confidence and problem solving skills
) O4 H6 l/ b3 O Identify personal leadership strengths …. A- g# j9 Z( ?& ?, ]
& O) k  K. z8 _! ^

0 o: U. L7 A3 B( z2 ]& k( P, eProgram Schedule:/ {  _0 ?& y( S7 t
Regular Spring and Fall Group Sessions: runs on alternate Saturday afternoon from 2 to 5 p.m.
0 f! j' L7 j& ~* Q' LSummer Group Sessions: 2 consecutive weeks in July from 9 to 5 p.m. daily
4 z6 ?% O0 d/ V7 o( C, N                              2 consecutive weeks in August from 9 to 5 p.m. daily9 {: r4 W3 A6 L4 O

8 ?) c9 O/ O* u* Z" ^Who can participate?7 F2 D/ x: A1 _
Asian youth aged 11 to 15, who are new immigrants or locally born Asian living in Edmonton or surrounding area.

What is the cost of joining the T.A.N.G. program?
9 o/ w1 [0 G5 d1 t- o# T/ J9 N/ e5 QIt is FREE and space is limited to 15 to 20 participants per group.

5 J. J8 o; K9 W" f8 t  p1 P% b: {" M0 q( I( o3 W
Volunteer’s Duties:
+ i) T# ^, d' z$ O" m' G, R1 a: `4 _  v8 `+ k8 B* l
 Distribute promotional flyers to schools, churches, communities and social services agencies   v: G  k. X. J" a! @
 Facilitate and/or coordinate   activity-based function such as to host a gym day or sport tournaments or workshop on personal growth development
) D5 I% ^/ S" z4 i: Q& i9 _( l Facilitate or assist in ice-breakers and/or other activities+ r) H. y+ t! `4 ~
 Facilitate or assist in small group discussions
) Z9 g( o$ v, ?( N, q+ e Research activities related to the sessions’ topic
; B- ~8 _' F" r4 ~. u$ g; q Enforce safety rules during program sessions and fieldtrips
2 @. K( N9 M3 A/ ^" ]( b3 o Assist in program planning1 M: x) i% V/ _% _+ W. h
 Be a role model+ F! }" s. U2 Q; K7 k
! k# _; P2 |9 X8 \! w1 M9 ]3 v
Volunteer Commitment:
* V! s- I! l2 i) L( q* D6 ?: y ( h& w; K8 y, @# i2 ?' F' i8 G
 On-going volunteers (we have volunteers dedicated themselves to the program for almost 4 years)
& h) y/ U, q+ m/ I One time volunteers:  minimum commitment is one seasonal session, i.e. 8 – 10 sessions in Spring, Fall or Summer

1 c2 O9 g, ]5 k0 s& eAttitude/Skills Requirements:
) ^+ A, i. c# U4 ?; Z) G9 a. T
: H, b) G2 C1 E7 |" }1 h1 A Mature, patient, organized, willing to take and follow instruction from Program Coordinator/ F  R3 T1 a4 U7 H( c
 Open and willing to initiate and maintain a positive relationship with youth in the program
) j/ |& |, q+ i* B& ?3 ^$ ^ A team player% N! T- l  E6 N9 b. x
 Able to work independently with minimum supervision' R: \' q* P( T) e' J
 Value the building on strengths of  children, youth and families
# B) M8 y$ g$ t  L Willing to work with youth including youth at risk$ {0 V. e  c' Q9 C% C
5 G3 s' M4 ]6 L; A, z# t% M
