Roles and Functions8 |# v# \) F9 k+ b- I
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the. u/ ^) L8 {* y' n$ t- C
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
6 ~" u& @8 }1 E. doperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
. N3 b: F. X" f+ }7 i3 Fthe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,. ?: ~$ F9 v q1 o: q. i8 f
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular7 v8 u+ `7 u8 Y
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is3 z4 W5 d- u n# x- J6 z
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an- {/ ]1 f# J+ n6 B& i
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
! u( b- O; ~5 h6 h: C1 zstaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend U y7 C+ H$ ^- x
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.. V& k- S V. O9 o

Functions and responsibilities:
9 r) A: H ^1 L# uThe specific functions of the coordinator include the following:" O0 K* s7 P: x
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the* B' `+ a0 U+ S1 L$ ^
officers of the Coalition
# r8 `0 d/ l' I8 u5 b9 f2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural! s' j2 Q' K( V( m; K" }( R
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations- \$ F0 T% y# |( Y3 m. o7 {
and public institutions
7 G; X* j' Z6 L6 q. x# j3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through, W& n L5 E* ]
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
5 O- j7 }! x" |! o# B; l4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
% o: q5 |) E0 z6 y& U8 Aorganizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community

7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working

1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
. k$ }' e( w4 R5 Fregular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
) N& Q7 y1 \2 f6 {# d8 q8 e0 xdirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the! L5 k( l) c4 }9 A. A$ R
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.

Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board9 Y$ A1 d7 L+ X& f1 Y. Y' b$ ^
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
8 Z- U; H. s. k! y+ {* Q0 v( Himplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating5 @/ U/ E' V$ P- J7 p; [
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
; x- ?/ t4 F ]1 J, k3 ^The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and( E/ p& q1 x" s
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
: b1 v6 r4 }( S7 |" r/ f% _be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership* R+ u5 k1 F& {4 S- T
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and) `1 V8 q3 m0 [, |6 ?
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of6 x! x% M7 }- g" M
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial x9 ^+ n+ ^' z, q2 b* Y
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all+ G6 w: x4 [& k5 O
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of" f/ r X: N6 G. N% n1 ?, x# B2 w
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of5 @+ C4 X, c: ]8 r& K
policies already adopted

for the complex dynamics of emerging immigrant and refugee

2. Leadership and critical thinking skills to bridge the needs and struggles

4. Experience in administrative work with a proven ability to multi-task and
