The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition7 L. O9 [, s; n1 m" f
Roles and Functions$ u3 Z% f5 m% z- W9 |- m; Z8 M& K
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the/ n: [' T, l6 t& P
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the2 b8 s( o) x8 O! r- O& H' A0 [2 }/ p8 F
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
; h2 ] H% g6 x# cthe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,7 k& L; [2 R7 l
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
$ E& l( q- X8 p: H, V E- M0 C2 ^! Yboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is9 \. d& Q# q5 G3 w+ V! j% ^
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an1 G9 |% F: i# o. L
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires m, H' h" t; n$ a: ^1 Q+ e
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
- C6 Z! H) T+ j+ J& @* W& E8 qall board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:
2 \3 s! D9 X4 {' S e" c1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the0 Y' o0 e _1 y9 [
officers of the Coalition
Q* @, A$ ^6 ?& h% l0 o2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural# ?7 H: } O0 \
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
( p3 \# S5 R D2 |+ c5 Sand public institutions
3 H4 e' V* n+ H5 E3 v# e1 Y; x3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
' n/ n0 s4 O% h- r g5 gfunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
- D3 F$ i5 E% X/ b8 R4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
: g. J6 G5 L+ i' P% e2 h0 f& ^organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with) }9 b' S/ F+ C

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community- o! q; ~1 q' s, {: r9 T

participation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society

with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically

9 [" I b. `8 [Administrative responsibilities:* d! l6 n# c: Z/ _! a B
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
j7 u0 @3 w* `+ Bregular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of) v* \9 x" Y( A0 B j
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the) s, m: D& Z$ ^# B4 N
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.
1 O% ^ y% I+ u+ A' V6 h' e7 w2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the
# G, c3 n, B9 }8 H* ^$ }Multicultural Coalition$ D+ U2 H6 z: e3 q3 `: h: A( H
Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board! `* s$ c0 o* X5 ~* |
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
( S+ O- V5 \2 O8 e; d Eimplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating, ^# u0 c4 C9 v. c4 s8 ?1 C
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
$ R) G6 [ G: h' IThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and9 {: J6 G/ {! n4 g2 j" i* N- r
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
' U6 F$ F" S' `, {7 T- \/ H5 nbe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership- |( D! I# p# {) y) J( f. h
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and; x" ~) @1 B0 Q4 R
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
1 M5 H6 H0 U M5 sdirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
* O) W& ?5 Q4 V; l. @" j/ fstatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all8 q1 ^2 v' L) V3 c+ X+ w8 s1 b
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of6 L* D7 v2 M# }" ]( y; q
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of
+ h* z7 M' E" S* d& Z1 \& ?3 ^policies already adopted" \ I( f: x. b

This is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with
