The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition J! w& \* e8 i9 N8 o7 f$ _( Q1 ]5 G
Roles and Functions
6 B! z* h, Q) w% V+ }' R$ pThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the5 Q2 o! P: ?6 B2 o& K+ G
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the* M% ^1 V5 u$ R* Q2 J: P
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has$ {% |, x! m; A; ~+ W
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
5 W2 Z5 N- S$ {2 _: ^# Boperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular; J$ T& E) W: { d; {5 F- A
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is4 J6 [5 Z/ ]2 W/ g6 g( Q2 x& f0 y1 w
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an( p* ^ Q. D- l
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
5 V" }& t( Z! \staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend1 P9 l- V2 r& z
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.' R& }- i% e. W/ V4 n0 q

The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:1 K3 E! l8 g k
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the! ~! d3 }( B5 k$ j8 Q
officers of the Coalition
( W4 @$ Q6 L4 T' h% k/ C9 b2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
+ h- O, c1 s7 y! H8 I, u ]: ]organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations7 J2 y- L+ [* s Z. C
and public institutions. @0 _' ^4 a. C
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through- Z2 V X( Y" v4 U% f
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives T7 r$ L6 E% _/ R7 v
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community# V; l0 y7 h- f. ?
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community) e: u3 i) Y" A1 q/ r4 K

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic
' E' j) t: V" k" v+ xparticipation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society+ M! s# F+ A& n8 l
7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working. u* O9 V$ o" l2 m& Q$ Y& X! D
with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically
* j' Z3 j* a/ |$ X/ f. k; cdiverse backgrounds

Administrative responsibilities:/ K+ K* ?! r3 w/ @2 u' N5 W. g$ A
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
( K3 N! d6 v' E {regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of. j9 E2 }: I- I* N% g* ~
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
: M& a9 A8 O! d# }members of the Coalition’s financial condition.
' S1 u9 ]9 w v) {5 ^* _+ B( P2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the6 @2 E/ L1 ? ^

Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board
3 _5 L2 b! i$ hAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
# J/ {. W' x2 a1 z% @9 [3 Jimplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating1 |) n4 U% g- l8 A. |& Q, z, J( O
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.3 b, M. V, R* b) O) n1 S9 ~
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
2 f: @% G$ q# I0 S4 d+ Caims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
( o9 @. K) I. w T2 Abe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership1 {* G" q, l( v# `8 D8 U' y9 S
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
' }* _+ p: m- i; _$ C/ u% M7 N0 {facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
2 |9 g. F9 \; m6 m. }% @directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
- `( Z8 `3 g4 }1 u6 S5 |statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all8 t4 e5 u- B9 y! \) W, y
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
5 i9 Y# F1 t3 M5 H, l( Xdirectors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of

This is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with0 n7 @5 k9 g [1 \ s$ {
