9 B6 \& |/ X/ E4 h9 FThe Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition
/ g; M5 v+ s7 C) r& F# qRoles and Functions
& N0 {- ^, ?: r% d) c2 jThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
% N5 E' U% K& S8 korganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
3 |7 z% i( F1 foperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
1 U) o; y S$ M# d+ Y0 Z' pthe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,: N+ @- b& P0 ~% ]
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular F) _: g9 Y3 d' @
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
7 b& L+ M- J& Q7 ?% j1 t- ?+ ]conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an$ E5 Y. |' e0 O5 D
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
% y& Q( f4 p* ~8 ^1 N% hstaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend! N9 O- p' R! m
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.2 n, E: @6 W U+ }/ Q

Functions and responsibilities:( J4 L! P% o* S' H# ?
The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:
' O+ i9 P! M& D: J9 }8 Q7 M1 X! z1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
9 ^% {; y/ q5 f9 Nofficers of the Coalition1 |! c2 N6 ?# W% p& u: f4 q
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural& ?# _& e0 A/ l& N& a
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
7 U3 p7 p5 {! r! _2 c2 M# Jand public institutions
, W, n& q4 x) i# H, z9 p" D# g3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
5 n9 O, I5 p1 A* ofunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
7 S1 ^) Y; _6 B/ x# E4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community* \0 T2 n# F, O7 q! X- n% ^
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

/ T0 K. b# r% X$ Y. R* K! u7 Q5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic* E3 D0 @, a8 r; N3 e
participation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society2 m0 a" v3 ^7 W v1 y" E
7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working
/ H8 B9 W" J# c0 M7 K9 H! y( nwith groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically. c4 r; d" W& C& [; e
diverse backgrounds

4 c: Z- q3 p6 ?) b: sAdministrative responsibilities:0 d% M- b8 \: \1 J' @0 v
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its& A6 B6 A+ B6 u: k
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of: {: X+ S2 H4 U3 U/ k
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
8 b- x1 `7 N1 Mmembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.9 }- H) g, _" W2 \
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the
, s9 a& J6 {/ X' y' u3 f$ ^; fMulticultural Coalition6 l' T/ o% I+ g" R+ k) `, a) V7 I
Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board
. L: ]* c6 D6 K6 L F7 hAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
3 g n" |# q4 E7 Zimplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
% m6 C1 \) L. n7 k2 k8 s: loperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
& @2 c. n3 y) M7 L( F# K5 PThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
- ~4 H5 y1 `& naims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
( p3 B/ S: N' r3 i9 H, Ybe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership4 s3 m3 Y8 m; Y) o
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and6 k+ E/ s4 h7 v( B* o5 I7 V
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
. E* ~0 g/ J; J# L: y9 Edirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial- R: X2 R; e4 l! L/ c9 ~
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
Y& K( F$ m: R9 Y% v9 Jmatters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of* F, P# S0 G# [; z6 k6 X) z& @
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of/ g; z) N, ` W- ~
policies already adopted

This is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with
