The Engineers and Technologists Integration Program (ETIP) involves a

• Edmonton Mennonite Centre for Newcomers (EMCN)
; c+ g9 W3 T' Z& ?• Alberta Society of Engineering Technologists (ASET), and

Beginning in 1995, ETIP:
4 t9 U7 A4 C& N4 B& q5 `4 i, C• supports foreign-educated engineer and engineering technologists, and

an engineer or engineering technologist in Alberta:

The Alberta economy has a high demand for skilled workers in the

Alberta is home to many foreign-educated immigrant engineers. These9 {9 V* v9 g4 |( o( s0 O
immigrants are highly educated and experienced, yet many may find it
6 H/ ]& X" X1 D+ t6 a2 C5 ~7 @+ tdifficult to integrate into the Alberta workforce. Some employers may not
) D/ E; ?; V! K8 |. X( K6 Y5 Orecognize their international experience or credentials.

Integrated training offers a blend of occupation-related skills, a work* T) ], m* q1 Q
experience and competency-based training, such as applied academics or: G6 [) k7 `$ N8 @& v; [

The training components of ETIP assist participants in developing skills
4 d% r5 h3 T/ v w7 N# \2 X' qrequired for the Alberta workplace. Training includes:

• engineering-related training delivered at NAIT:) {/ E: c! g" O" L+ N
􀂉 450 hours of in-class time
5 g- Y2 l+ ~, S* F& Y8 C• job search and job management skills
2 C$ d( N, Z- v" F( x, t• first-aid training, and
s0 k- v# g# w; i( g( \• computer training./ y% E, N: b; ~# `& z6 ]+ T- V
Upon successful completion of ETIP, graduates are Technologist-in-Training
+ u7 k2 I& j6 e& h% a I0 J. Rmembers of ASET:

0 W3 W" B0 E% w' jand recognition of professional qualifications in the engineering

• The program addresses both the needs of foreign-educated engineer. H. Y% `! G4 t0 Z4 z- w
immigrants and the shortage of engineering technologists in the

$ p. n4 {+ p- N% h WEdmonton immigrant community.8 |, l7 {+ g( T& E+ s
• NAIT delivers engineering technologist education applicable to the
" \! y/ T. S. `2 o8 q: b3 ?8 vCanadian workforce.
# U8 [. ^: k% _3 y! E• ASET provides professional recognition of the qualifications of ETIP- f- Z! b+ b5 X, w
graduates.
7 l, U$ Y7 I: T# m" xWhat is the evidence of success?
2 g3 ?6 [+ t$ G% {$ J: X( L0 jAs of 2003, more than 80% of ETIP graduates over the past six years have2 w6 d; W ~% M
found engineering or engineering technologist employment in Alberta.4 Z6 T. B9 ~8 d+ B7 L+ i
In 2004, 46 engineers graduated from the ETIP program. At the time of
7 s6 K( O) c" m7 Ugraduation, almost half had secured employment in the engineering industry,9 `4 i) H$ S [
with over 90% employed at three months post-graduation.
