昨天（4日）早上在埃德蒙顿西部，维亚火车（Via train）与一辆卡车相撞，造成3人死亡。

0 a' O" I. s4 F: W! N此次重大交通事故发生在昨天早上8点40分左右。目击者希克（Karen Hick）事后说，当时就听到一个巨大的声响。预警的信号灯仍在工作，警方正在检查另一端的信号灯是否正常。

7 Y. I# U0 o& Y( Z) R死者是父亲和两个孩子，男子身份没有披露。埃德蒙顿学校局发言人昨天只是透露，两个遇难的孩子都是在埃德蒙顿西端一所小学就读，一个上2年级，一个上4年级。

6 ~, H( b& B1 h维亚铁路女发言人卡罗斯基（Catherine Kaloutsky）说，事发的火车是从温哥华驶往多伦多，车上有227名乘客，26名工作人员。事发后火车被迫停驶，乘客留在车上，直到急救人员赶到。

: k* ]" K. `& }  S4 u  ]6 E调查人员表示，当时由暴风雪造成的恶劣路况和能见度不高，可能也是事故发生的一个原因。

Kaloutsky said the westbound train en route from Toronto to Vancouver hit the truck around 8:15 a.m. While there were whiteout conditions at the time, investigators have not indicated if they were a factor.
