The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic

8 u+ ?1 O/ ^- y" [9 `1 fthis multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA 4 @4 n; Z0 u3 D" `
Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and
; B8 G' W' y4 Xsurrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA

Responsibilities - |7 g, _, S& h2 ^: @. T

; v8 y, Q, O3 v$ M8 J6 K! pReporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and - a/ b5 X0 o8 z
execution of the YWCA Strategy 3 o1 I9 h7 |8 d/ @* m: N7 r
& x3 J, I1 {# f1 c) x4 @- }6 A
Specific responsibilities include:  3 K% H  ~. N& y* ^; j' B

# V* d2 ]: ]0 [2 i' V6 {+ C; {•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of
! X5 ], P& \. J8 ithe YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by 5 M: y! d7 f* i, f: ?
the Board of Directors;  
+ H7 o; _6 Z4 {  i•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations
$ w# ~6 D( Z4 N: [: hincluding financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to
% P" o$ [" _5 K- j9 denable the Board to exercise their responsibilities; ! q# v$ V8 ~9 `- J- _
•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and
8 f9 t7 _) Z3 kobjectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
& k3 e; u5 k8 C4 `4 d5 nthe board;  $ R2 R) N4 c9 B( @9 j9 M! t1 \
•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  4 d. Z3 n& a+ b* x
•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
; h& U" p* ?6 j! cthe development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; 7 j" \+ f7 {9 M# @& Y
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
4 ^" C, ?4 W  G* x( \0 H  V( ]changing needs of the organization and community; * R6 U2 f! ]! d# y5 E. A$ y+ V2 L
•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue
3 v4 [$ |! D9 X9 \$ ^' T( ~commitments;
- w4 |! y2 P, N•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  ; o( Y" \+ b5 V# j7 d
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective
0 z9 ^# K& Q: k. Z: sselection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
9 ~9 ?; ]" |. _" z2 H•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed;
$ ^9 p# w$ ^6 Q6 Q: n% q  Y  g% A•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
2 L* L+ _8 x0 |" H$ V; `effectively and positively represent the association; 5 ?% G3 p! _$ a+ ^

8 y( n: g# N& c- O' Z; x, i•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring
) _: a4 [2 @4 F* `, @$ S; o3 L$ i# nthe implementation of systems to manage these risks;  
. ^( P  D% j6 O9 [9 }" q•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
* j6 E: k4 _. z* v! J" c2 d8 o" nperformance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED   A* R9 I  C* i
the forthcoming year;  " |' \' i# I: x* j- J
•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical
, }) ?7 w) A7 ?practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of 2 z# O3 T- s5 t/ T( f
YWCA Canada; and   N) Z! o3 Y+ o$ W: I7 S& @+ Z
•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task
4 t# O7 g: r& ~2 `  x% z% J. hForces.  & `$ p0 x9 o  U: X) }! u; L% r8 L
  
7 v; ~9 D- x3 G) P0 @4 ^9 KRequired Skills & Abilities
3 i2 q: S" q) `9 w+ U•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations; 1 ]2 e% `& y' p$ o: ]" a! l: r) h
•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus
4 L- H+ O% B! O5 t! E7 O. T6 zaround decisions, plans and actions;
% @% S# M9 y- X8 j& \•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
2 z7 g8 a; q" T•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable
% V2 H. z3 v5 h$ Qand achievable with realistic timeframes; - u; \2 @- g. N  n
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks
/ ]* N9 X8 `( g+ vsimultaneously; . b! {9 N4 W' v% H) l/ f( x- T
•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build
( s6 g/ C9 O+ Nrapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings;
0 K1 n1 k0 {/ j! |: @! k•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and
* B! z% B5 u  @5 }/ K5 ^/ \•  Superior negotiation skills.

Required Professional Designation / Certification / X( I8 z2 ~( z9 w+ F, ?, a
•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.

3 J5 N4 ~2 O( d8 wRequired Experience
1 m# ~* b7 a+ f5 |1 V% _9 L. I•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; % a4 h! }0 ~; a0 L) C
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation
  k3 l  J4 e7 {0 |" Habilities;
  P& J0 A8 M3 H/ @" i. E•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations,
  B/ X% w# x$ q. \  z" W' dNetworking and Fundraising; + J4 Z# U( y8 k
•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting   S+ e# `+ Q3 T- M5 X
and financial statements; and
7 [- f  D0 I' P2 i•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women 2 J+ J9 @4 X# b3 r
