Master Composter/Recycler Program / Free!

7 x! ^- f: s: A' k* J. N0 W" oDear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the
: \7 e/ e6 r( |0 N# ]. m! sMaster Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule
) [3 Q' z+ G: F) j0 z9 \4 J(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about
$ p3 L( Y3 K: B' |, K: P. xenvironmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste- C6 u+ s" P& v
management; home composting; household hazardous waste;* Q: n Z( h) N
vermin-composting and residential recycling.
4 B4 \6 L. j) B$ q& J2 n
4 Q& [; {' V. L9 x8 c" cThis course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips1 I& y/ H9 L) B, Z
to various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates
$ T1 U3 L0 h$ I3 g; pcomplete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:) M3 h9 {7 e; ^( z( I6 R; m$ v
reduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important
* N4 X5 `% K1 ?5 o, Y% d' r% H$ }% Sresources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the
: \4 Q- E0 l; Timportance of composting and recycling.9 v2 F0 c. \( y7 M
/ [3 }3 N9 ~2 e
Examples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the) [5 W2 r) r+ D4 L# U& K
Reuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;
5 n% ~. ^# X) l# a8 V5 Wpublic education display booths; assisting with programs and+ y6 `9 e2 L2 G$ t$ p1 ~
maintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at: t, C; c* M* G8 S$ A3 I, }/ O0 H
various demonstration gardens and general public and school
& U4 K6 o- E! o! `presentations.0 Q8 U4 {" L; N: Y/ D( A8 }
, M" `5 k: ?0 y/ ?There are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and
" J) L* k. U; ?" L: ^volunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the# k* r' h& y3 m" r8 n+ j
most. Curious about recycling and composting and sharing your2 W# O9 f+ o7 Y5 c
knowledge with others, then apply to become a Master
