Master Composter/Recycler Program / Free!$ }; I- \8 h* i
City of Edmonton, Waste Management Branch b2 P% a4 a7 ~' }

Dear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the# Y9 _1 A" n3 n2 ]- g
Master Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule
* y5 {% c% d2 ]% K* l k1 j(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about; `0 y6 _( i P4 S
environmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste5 C6 }4 i; s2 t* a
management; home composting; household hazardous waste;! C) R& e9 y' ~$ S6 P
vermin-composting and residential recycling.7 b* N0 d( J7 x9 R
7 f% U4 Y* T0 X O" vThis course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips$ i. ^" H* A; Y V5 K
to various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates
! C, J$ Z6 ~% v! g1 E- Z) z: Icomplete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:1 V0 _& n p a) s+ V" l
reduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important2 N, Z9 ^9 ?* p3 M
resources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the
" j; u2 V6 ^, B" qimportance of composting and recycling.

Examples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the. s& i9 E. g. ?7 |$ ~4 m+ u& q
Reuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;
( q5 Z% ~ R; {" X2 ], Y" Apublic education display booths; assisting with programs and
: n+ r. |* [: ^% h2 A1 Lmaintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at
' E8 e1 p R- @3 T- K. bvarious demonstration gardens and general public and school
1 U$ k. E+ X, w6 d4 W7 Npresentations.

, M- o9 W3 N( @8 Z, Y4 zThere are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and
& N6 b7 S; s" t: B$ Gvolunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the1 Z6 r2 Y& A6 u, P$ y
most. Curious about recycling and composting and sharing your
