Dear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the
; T2 `1 h0 c& X3 R9 g$ p& d# _Master Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule: V4 r* F% o5 ]9 s4 y+ m' I% u
(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about( T8 ~" h% ?. }" \( e: W
environmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste
m/ R7 H; R8 M* O7 xmanagement; home composting; household hazardous waste;
2 d* R7 V$ s4 z8 z2 }( H6 X/ xvermin-composting and residential recycling.; _ }) b6 G) l; Z
/ `2 G" e# G b6 p$ M% x/ X5 s1 z" S
This course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips$ c. U' q8 I4 L* F) I1 e* k1 s
to various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates- m+ n; G3 V! U% W; y: d
complete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:) ?, w) u& f: @$ [1 H; Q3 \
reduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important
$ H3 D* h g" b8 ~& b$ Yresources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the: S+ B9 D# I; }- y& z. N3 t
importance of composting and recycling.

+ K- J* c. `6 ]) Q# I: hExamples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the* b# _* o1 ^; Z4 L1 `7 u- F9 e
Reuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;
, _0 p5 L. X, k5 r3 g& G& k( rpublic education display booths; assisting with programs and0 Q2 S( p1 R8 I5 c( x( K# l
maintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at2 }, h, B4 j- F7 l$ s
various demonstration gardens and general public and school

# k& S# @9 O' l* ?0 }There are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and
# i8 H. D1 Q" ^; lvolunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the

knowledge with others, then apply to become a Master2 m0 [; ~0 a+ I
