/ }$ M, g* V, d( _9 HDear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the' ?0 ^; p: z0 \4 h3 {1 `
Master Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule
4 @$ ?7 f9 t' C# v. D(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about, M0 q J, E4 @& @8 w$ M7 B
environmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste
0 w- Y- [8 _' c& {4 Emanagement; home composting; household hazardous waste;
8 N& B8 r: b' x4 q5 f. k6 P" \; {3 f# y3 Uvermin-composting and residential recycling.
9 V U$ l5 A4 s9 A% U R1 T0 f7 P6 ^) l7 q& d
This course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips6 ?1 a& Z9 k/ f9 O% @
to various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates) X! V/ r! ]& Q
complete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:
: ?- ^: i' U, M$ k9 r9 j7 o* `reduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important3 [7 a* j4 K: G) P3 r% W
resources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the
! I. u5 @; |9 l3 d" _4 K9 E6 Gimportance of composting and recycling.

8 |( t& E6 G, t, z3 {Examples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the: `: a2 u; e, S. f5 O
Reuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;1 K& g* C ~1 y/ e) f
public education display booths; assisting with programs and% d- K x3 f/ M$ _, V
maintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at
2 W, \9 F% p, C9 r2 a: `1 m' E @0 Dvarious demonstration gardens and general public and school7 F i6 ?3 D. o/ L/ s6 \
presentations.

6 x; w S& o/ m5 F$ [( f2 dThere are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and- w" J# p1 e# e1 ^* U+ g
volunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the
) U k5 ?3 j# ]7 Vmost. Curious about recycling and composting and sharing your
5 z, a2 I. J4 U2 {8 Fknowledge with others, then apply to become a Master

Course Dates: April 14 - May 2nd, 2009 -Tuesday and Thursday evenings
