Master Composter/Recycler Program / Free!

Dear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the* b8 |% I. M( V& s: g1 F
Master Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule. {2 o k9 h) K) i( u* S
(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about; g" Z- B. |+ v" L- ]
environmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste
9 e; o0 |' Q6 ?; fmanagement; home composting; household hazardous waste;" P) w3 h$ Q. l4 _
vermin-composting and residential recycling.* L- E7 L' {) I6 T8 Z0 F6 U
' \/ \6 t5 H0 \% lThis course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips
: F* l& n$ c3 W ^' kto various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates
4 w1 g% F2 f: ]( l7 Z) M0 F8 G7 K+ }complete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:, A5 j! l" b( f O, m
reduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important, d6 @# @2 L8 [. N: v
resources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the- i! F1 D* f" o
importance of composting and recycling.

6 g! [! m# l) V( ]/ AExamples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the {/ q/ z1 c2 i+ W9 r
Reuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;
1 j; S( @4 ?1 Y. s7 W6 Qpublic education display booths; assisting with programs and
$ l/ V5 j8 j( Zmaintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at4 F( \- C) [. C5 U/ v% w2 l6 ]$ k
various demonstration gardens and general public and school
+ [% v* W) ]6 i/ v- _4 b3 fpresentations.
! ^9 W. ?4 E+ U" Q* [3 Z- y' ^" S: g. N4 N# D2 B9 J. ~
There are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and
5 \( u) J, h, p yvolunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the: K: V. x5 Z6 A; k
most. Curious about recycling and composting and sharing your4 h2 W( V3 L! V4 R0 j9 D
knowledge with others, then apply to become a Master
