Master Composter/Recycler Program / Free!: x# x1 K3 Y+ h7 M6 Y

7 V; m) v- N: S. M1 _" NDear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the
7 P( t/ e0 L2 ?0 v+ `8 K1 VMaster Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule
7 [& W. F0 B( @4 i2 _. x(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about
1 f/ a' c" h( [, r) ^" Fenvironmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste- s+ h2 V2 Z2 S8 |0 B$ E
management; home composting; household hazardous waste;
* G8 @5 z4 `' J# S7 uvermin-composting and residential recycling.1 G: ~2 N Q6 I3 u' l. e+ w$ a
7 L( j1 r; U' K9 fThis course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips, ^) f+ A$ y) l6 R; h; j7 F: X) L7 `
to various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates E/ w$ D, ]: ~( `1 r. V
complete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:
9 f" R3 F! } d0 {reduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important" |- f# ]. Z+ n0 ~2 \% @' A
resources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the
4 h% h8 F% Y# b, c7 ^importance of composting and recycling.& j, k. f2 D/ O& Q4 Y/ N
+ O7 [* t- v2 \Examples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the) B/ J* P: D7 ~" D+ e; p7 X0 {
Reuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;
/ A' F& n, C: c. h0 ~( V3 Ipublic education display booths; assisting with programs and1 W4 s5 \6 q, V$ H1 o% y$ y
maintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at
+ Z M ^+ }& F* v! l8 o% z4 avarious demonstration gardens and general public and school
, X' k- f! M5 ]4 ^6 Tpresentations.# C1 `5 h/ h' M9 F- k

There are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and
