There are no changes in the way Albertans register for publicly-funded health care. However, as announced in the 2008 budget, health premiums have been eliminated as of January 1, 2009.

8 r; q" W/ q) x! D8 o4 j% CPayment and collection of health care premiums owed prior to January 1, 2009 will continue under these guidelines:

5 U- N5 y5 R& i( G5 B0 \ 1. All Albertans are responsible to pay premiums unless they qualify for premium assistance, government-sponsored income support programs, or are senior citizens.' G9 [' h, }- z
2. Employers and benefit administrators who register and pay premiums on behalf of their employees will continue to do so.
3 ~) D/ _! a4 |+ E 3. Alberta Health and Wellness will continue to pursue collections from those who fail to pay premiums.
) H6 Z( L. w3 {* g; s# ^ 4. Contributors to Alberta Blue Cross or other supplementary insurance plans that provide prescription drug, dental, and other extended coverage, will still pay those premiums, as they have not been eliminated.
