A year ago these things would have spiked the price of crude oil by at
$ O- \! ?# {; p0 a- Dleast $50.00 per barrel. Today, oil price declined by a record amount.

There are several reasons the price of oil is decreasing in the face

in the ocean near Brazil. Each of these oil fields has more oil than

2. New natural gas has been found in Pennsylvania and West Virginia. 4 C3 {0 m) t! C" h: ?# f

3. New methods of injecting CO2 and surfactants into oil wells is

to bio-diesel producers. One pork processing plant in Oklahoma is
% [; ~: m s8 S! F5 H( j4 pproducing 30,000 gallons of bio-diesel per day from pork fat.

6. There are 99 nuclear reactors in various stages of planning and

will replace oil.

Airlines are flying airplanes with bio-fuel. They are finding the bio-
4 H0 N& y3 y" a6 x' `fuel is cleaner and performs better than jet fuel.

available at very little cost or risk. The gas is displacing crude
' o, W2 j, q2 toil. " G3 v: q& X. q# Z3 h2 m

9. Coal is being transformed into a clean burning liquid fuel. The CO2
& \2 @7 Z; R! F" Tproduced as a byproduct is sold to oil companies for injection into 7 d( [1 A3 @( G4 {' f' V
oil wells.
! d6 S. O! ]( B8 s+ I- e1 Y+ o% N b2 i" t5 {7 J" q
; N* G. u$ ~9 X& z: E ^10. Solar, wind and ocean energy is displacing oil as an energy
% v2 {* N, ~! T3 f" |source. Three new wind turbines are being erected every day in the US. 0 c! t" |( d9 _2 x, {" G& F

& m, R- R! u- e+ [- qEach of the above by itself will not make a large difference in the
( @/ J3 W& M( v7 eprice of crude oil but the sum of all of them together is world 1 X4 H7 C' j+ P0 z, [
changing. The important thing is that OPEC no longer has the ability : E( @) n' [8 ^' R
to control oil prices.
