Edmonton police are investigating two killings from early Sunday morning, the city's 20th and 21st homicides of the year.# }- _" ^! _/ \0 ]( e3 r$ [

In the first incident, a 30-year-old man is dead in what police are calling a "gang motivated" shooting near Whitemud Drive, the Edmonton Police Service said in a press release.

2 v8 U2 @* h+ V0 nAt approximately 2:20 a.m. MT, the EPS responded to a call of shots fired at a silver Infiniti near a Whitemud Drive overpass at 170th Street.

The driver of the car was found dead at the scene.9 k1 k: @1 z" ^3 x
, n4 x* m/ \6 i0 OOne male passenger fled from the vehicle before police arrived, and reports indicate a small white car was seen fleeing the scene after the shots were fired." k- k( D: p$ j& ^; a$ e

The circumstances leading up to the shooting are still under investigation, but police believe the incident is not random and is likely gang-related.

Meanwhile, one male is dead and another is in police custody after an altercation between two groups in an alley early Sunday morning, according to an EPS press release.; P" w9 g- I2 R/ R' ?1 O

At approximately 2:45 a.m. MT, officers spotted a vehicle being driven the wrong way on Gateway Boulevard near Whyte Avenue.

; a8 u; A. x8 g' RUpon stopping the car, the officers learned that one of the passengers, a 24-year-old male, was seriously injured.
; ]5 o7 k# ^; n x' L$ }8 U0 Z) ?) X. `' t* i) |1 s& T4 H+ l
He was taken to hospital, where he died of his injuries.

A police investigation revealed that the three male occupants of the vehicle had been involved in a physical altercation with two other males and a female near an alley south of Whyte Avenue, between Gateway Boulevard and Calgary Trail, which resulted in one male being stabbed.* K9 s9 [4 Q# U8 @4 a7 {
( O: A- q7 Z/ ~1 g+ o6 M" \The three suspects were located by police immediately following the vehicle stop. A 32-year-old male is in custody and charges are pending.
