Duties

% @1 X- G( s* b8 Y6 {: g2 J * Develops, implements, monitors, and evaluates programs and services to address the unique educational and social needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans-identified,two-spirited and queer (LGBTTQ) youth in the Edmonton region
+ r7 M. i) J; U * Develops and delivers community-based programming and provides support services for Youth Understanding Youth, Edmonton's sexual minority community youth group
/ Y0 P1 |7 o+ M' u* C! J ^; ` * Trains,motivates and supports volunteer adult facilitators( g$ e. {6 z. D% [9 q: ~- H* q7 {
* Acts as a resource on LGBTTQ youth issues for Institute staff, community, and governmental organizations
/ N l) Y, P3 s* }% ^* g * Provides interim quarterly reports and an overall annual productivity report and evaluation to the Assistant Director( x! P5 I! l1 L: M( v) a
* Liaises with the Assistant Director in budget planning and management; monitors project related expenses
+ F' T/ N+ [& k5 r* q+ [- F7 { * Advocates to meet the health, social and safety needs of LGBTTQ and questioning youth6 l! [8 z+ {" ~; i
* Researches and develops a LGBTTQ youth mentoring program. t& Z/ F2 Z6 o |* H, s2 T
* Develops, implements and monitors a LGBTTQ youth risk and needs assessment) [. S. M% z5 c" r: D
* Develops benchmarks to assist in the evaluation of YUY programming and outreach supports4 I6 o; O+ `3 m: q' B6 Q) V. ~* ?7 r
* Develops promotional materials such as posters, brochures, and displays to promote the youth group and mentoring programs
- O6 z6 Q' U% s& G! u) y7 \ * Participates in the development of leadership training and educational programming at Camp fYrefly) B2 c4 q4 E- l m$ n6 K
* Supports University of Alberta campus organizations for sexual minority students and gay-straight student alliances in local high schools and communities& R+ ~! f6 _. }! _4 y6 P4 G
* Develops a communications and advertising strategy targeting community agencies, youth groups/programs, and schools

Qualifications
. f; l9 D& M" }" _
+ N6 }' H6 L- D1 W+ L3 |; b * Bachelor's degree in education, social work, psychology, or a related professional discipline% B2 U2 q, U# O P& W
* Three to five years experience in community development with a particular emphasis on sexual minority youth4 }8 v7 x/ w6 K. y5 p, V
* Knowledge in adolescent development, health and sex education, violence prevention,suicide intervention, alcohol and substance abuse, HIV and STI prevention and harm reduction strategies
. y8 `5 k# A- c4 ?/ a1 S * Experience in developing and providing youth-oriented programs
4 O; B0 P" d% m; o+ d: }- e" H ] * Demonstrated effectiveness in working with the LGBTTQ community/ r! a% }) d6 z$ G" Y& ^# T
* Fundraising skills an asset
+ D; n# ~* n- y* r" T * Demonstrated experience in development of youth group programming, community outreach,volunteer management and training and conflict resolution skills
# i9 X5 v' }/ W: l * Outstanding group facilitation, training, and counselling skills
+ g8 @$ u# ~" F+ b& K; N( @ * Proven leadership, and strong team, and relationship building skills2 q$ a& T4 q: b0 }+ E+ h( g% ]
* Excellent communication (oral, written, and web-based), organizational and interpersonal skills O* J. j B& s! b" b2 x
* Understanding of other languages and experiences working within Aboriginal and ethnocultural communities an asset
