The Edmonton Mennonite Centre for Newcomers requires a fulltime Settlement Practitioner to deliver settlement services for Temporary Foreign Workers in the Edmonton region. This is a term position to March 31, 2010.0 V# T6 s+ y" V0 S: h& ~5 h- @

The project will focus on the following aspects of newcomers settlement services:

• Outreach delivery of “orientation, information and referral services”

Position Description:
* e; i/ t3 v* L4 ~The Settlement Practitioner will be a front line practitioner, providing settlement
. z8 [ T x, {& F2 Jguidance, information, orientation and referral services for Temporary Foreign
1 H5 c8 `6 c# E4 ]Workers, including matters of employment, housing, language, immigration and
) Y4 m9 O% o) Z8 b. f8 Y9 K5 asupportive counselling by telephone, emails and in-person.

orientation workshops related to settlement needs of Temporary Foreign workers.

4 t, b% T; [: z" {6 ?' Y• Provide a detailed needs assessment of TFW’s referred from EMCN staff,other service providers, industry employers, as well as self-referrals: m# P. c# ]5 A6 l8 }$ A9 T
• Establish and maintain relationships between EMCN, other service providers and industries employing temporary foreign workers and promote settlement services at EMCN
; x5 R7 o9 _2 {, x3 m9 O• Maintain close relationships with the Temporary Foreign Worker Advisory Office+ F( `+ ]- G G9 a% a( y3 @3 B
• Provide counselling to help temporary foreign workers adjust to Canadian life,make referrals when appropriate, develop needs assessment and action plans if required2 H3 j8 `' ~+ o) t- i
• Assist people to fill in application forms, prepare for meetings or appointments relating to settlement or employment
$ \4 C/ v: |. i0 i4 N• Take clients to view apartments, open bank accounts, register for healthcare and become familiar with community services

• Facilitate and coordinate delivery of workshops related to settlement of TFW 6 s/ U7 O, ]1 ]' ]9 V# B
• Promote English language services for TFW and employers
! d( m) @. d8 W• Arrange interpretation and translation services as required

• Provide service delivery duties as required Desired skills, education and experience:3 B0 O* @( D- H" K+ p! q9 C
• Minimum of 2 years of previous experience as a Settlement Practitioner in an intercultural/multicultural/cross-cultural context* L1 {; e" z0 v& u( s# k
• Relevant post-secondary education in social science or human service area. k! ?2 k3 }1 Y1 i R
• Excellent written and oral communication skills) i; N1 h- }1 w* y5 t1 f
• Strong commitment to providing quality services to newcomers and to working in an intercultural environment with cultural competence
