Duties

* Provides routine technical and administrative support for sample preparations and mineral separation for isotopic analysis8 e9 H( r3 F7 n
* Conducts mineral separation, sample imaging, grant mount preparation, sample weighing and iron exchange chromatography6 f# j8 Z4 B5 f6 O `( U. l+ E8 [1 u
* Provides training to graduate students, visiting scientists on preparation techniques, A' F o' b. h2 k1 v
* Compiles analytical data using standard office software such as Excel, Word and Corel for use by the PI or client
! B" F/ R0 J( N: m/ Y * Performs routine maintenance on equipment and lab husbandry
# K5 {/ d( G6 g B * Orders supplies, maintains lab records, maintain WHMIS records and compliance labeling, maintains lab inventory and safe disposal of chemicals
" c# S" L% A+ A# N7 ? * Provides safety training to students, staff and visitors using the lab# F3 A# r/ v1 V8 q. `) `
* Provides administrative support by maintaining records, (usage and expenses) and prepares invoices. S: t, Z' K' k, L( w5 _" p- z# X9 d1 G
* Assists with laser ablation analyses on the multi-collector inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer (ICPMS)

* Post Secondary diploma in laboratory technology, Chemistry or Earth Sciences; BSc in Geology or Chemistry preferred9 \3 O) s9 S8 }3 W( v
* 1-2 years experience working in a research environment (analytical chemistry lab or geochemical lab)
* M: w) H. W$ g5 F D * Computer proficiency using MS Office applications and Corel3 x+ G+ I' t; A, |0 r5 U* j5 _, |
* A thorough knowledge of lab safety protocols and WHMIS procedures' h3 Z$ h, ]% V f% K" r
* Experience conducting routine maintenance on standard rock sample preparation equipment. N( t" `/ p; x& X: K1 u+ s1 q
