As part of the City of Edmonton's Newcomer Internship Program, we are seeking a highly motivated internationally trained Accountant to work as an intern for a period of 11 months. The objective of this program is to provide foreign trained professionals with meaningful Canadian work experience related to their qualifications, skills and experience. 8 F G8 h& w) U4 k9 k
; u$ z/ n' ~- F! D3 u; D+ rReporting to the Manager of Corporate Accountants Payable and Receivable, you will perform professional/senior technical accounting work involving control over processing and maintenance of complex and diverse accounts receivable and billing financial systems and records. This may include:6 `+ c7 t" i) [
• Assisting in reviewing the overall accounting system and inter-related financial processes within a diversified accounting environment
$ d, T- F8 g) T* z$ G• Developing performance reports, including monthly billing and collection activity, customer profile, and specialized reports including year end financial statements* o( r; E. Y5 K7 V0 V) d. E- C
• Providing technical and professional advice and assistance to business are officials in matters of financial policies and procedures under the shared services delivery module
3 `4 D& A6 i5 M2 S• Performing complex trend analysis, transactional analysis and reconciliation's+ s& U7 V( X+ t0 m0 _0 {
• Applying a high level of analysis in providing value added AP/AR services and recommendations to customers

5 Z/ d# V; `7 K q" a7 |' q3 M• University degree obtained outside of Canada (bachelor or applied) in an accounting-related discipline
) }9 g- g% [- V5 ?4 ~• Working towards a Canadian accounting designation (CGA, CMA, CA) would be considered an asset9 @( G' Q! g; Y- w' m7 p2 R0 V
• Three (3) years of progressively responsible international accounting experience G0 W" \& N3 n# _* h" X8 u
• A basic working knowledge of Corporate Financial Systems
8 ~$ ^7 s7 f( r6 X: h, P, L. t/ @* k1 \• Demonstrated competency in the use of Microsoft Office applications and spreadsheets# u" J Q+ m- ~3 Q1 T: a
• Demonstrated ability to deal courteously with the public and make decisions within established policies
, V! {5 n3 n+ c* x& b$ |" B8 d" g• A basic knowledge of accounting, administrative procedures and regulations including GAAP and GST c3 x* Q2 P% [% y; L: w( d
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills: i3 ?3 W( ], I, {9 t$ a
Hours of Work: 33.75 hours per week, Monday - Friday.
