This is a temporary position for approximately 11 months.  Applicants must be eligible to work in Canada at the time of their application.! ]; a5 |9 |0 L0 S$ @

As part of the City of Edmonton's Newcomer Internship Program, we are seeking a highly motivated internationally trained Accountant to work as an intern for a period of 11 months.  The objective of this program is to provide foreign trained professionals with meaningful Canadian work experience related to their qualifications, skills and experience.

$ |) j+ S* J) F. \1 _) `Reporting to the Manager of Corporate Accountants Payable and Receivable, you will perform professional/senior technical accounting work involving control over processing and maintenance of complex and diverse accounts receivable and billing financial systems and records.  This may include:
6 O& Y9 H- C9 }•        Assisting in reviewing the overall accounting system and inter-related financial processes within a diversified accounting environment/ ]6 m0 f6 `) I3 U3 ^9 X( Q
•        Developing performance reports, including monthly billing and collection activity, customer profile, and specialized reports including year end financial statements
. m9 ~6 x6 p, h/ f, K•        Providing technical and professional advice and assistance to business are officials in matters of financial policies and procedures under the shared services delivery module  I$ A, l6 o2 c+ U( w
•        Performing complex trend analysis, transactional analysis and reconciliation's
% l' \' W! \8 r+ l; \: V/ q•        Applying a high level of analysis in providing value added AP/AR services and recommendations to customers # O! k; B/ J3 D8 E# A
Job Requirements:  
* w* h. f; x% i3 J•        University degree obtained outside of Canada (bachelor or applied) in an accounting-related discipline
9 Y$ k7 E3 o! i; @; _$ V$ V6 d•        Working towards a Canadian accounting designation (CGA, CMA, CA) would be considered an asset
* ]. V  |6 ?+ C* @. E; Z& c•        Three (3) years of progressively responsible international accounting experience
( e" {$ h6 p- ?7 A' K- Y5 O, O1 x•        A basic working knowledge of Corporate Financial Systems* x: z7 F' x% r; o0 I4 f0 b" J
•        Demonstrated competency in the use of Microsoft Office applications and spreadsheets: X( H  Q: }! ?% @1 `
•        Demonstrated ability to deal courteously with the public and make decisions within established policies
' f9 J6 W# l; g: B7 R& {9 N•        A basic knowledge of accounting, administrative procedures and regulations including GAAP and GST
) e! Q$ C) Z4 d# q) B6 }% ?•        Excellent verbal and written communication skills( R7 O8 k; |$ W- m6 ?: o3 c
Hours of Work:  33.75 hours per week, Monday - Friday.

Salary:  $27.00 hourly
