As part of the City of Edmonton's Newcomer Internship Program, we are seeking a highly motivated internationally trained Accountant to work as an intern for a period of 11 months.  The objective of this program is to provide foreign trained professionals with meaningful Canadian work experience related to their qualifications, skills and experience. 5 r7 i2 j& b, `1 ~+ J2 B

/ E( R2 T- C2 }$ z" O' s- I2 lReporting to the Manager of Corporate Accountants Payable and Receivable, you will perform professional/senior technical accounting work involving control over processing and maintenance of complex and diverse accounts receivable and billing financial systems and records.  This may include:" T5 w  x6 {) M
•        Assisting in reviewing the overall accounting system and inter-related financial processes within a diversified accounting environment* ~2 Z, S. V8 |
•        Developing performance reports, including monthly billing and collection activity, customer profile, and specialized reports including year end financial statements4 s1 V  c) Q1 @, R' @7 y* a
•        Providing technical and professional advice and assistance to business are officials in matters of financial policies and procedures under the shared services delivery module. M2 x4 o  H- U/ S( G6 E" J0 C
•        Performing complex trend analysis, transactional analysis and reconciliation's
* l9 O' a  T, N6 }1 j0 x( N) q•        Applying a high level of analysis in providing value added AP/AR services and recommendations to customers 8 p* u' h$ x8 K, u; E
Job Requirements:  7 J, \! w8 m6 x3 H1 t9 Q
•        University degree obtained outside of Canada (bachelor or applied) in an accounting-related discipline) a- K# j- Q  s2 L
•        Working towards a Canadian accounting designation (CGA, CMA, CA) would be considered an asset, a  t/ r4 T6 M
•        Three (3) years of progressively responsible international accounting experience/ @( [. d/ |) R) v! W- ?
•        A basic working knowledge of Corporate Financial Systems' T0 A, m0 s* L0 J* `
•        Demonstrated competency in the use of Microsoft Office applications and spreadsheets
% _/ T2 r' X  N* w+ F•        Demonstrated ability to deal courteously with the public and make decisions within established policies9 ^' t$ y5 Q+ b
•        A basic knowledge of accounting, administrative procedures and regulations including GAAP and GST: m  o" F5 e- W, M
•        Excellent verbal and written communication skills
6 Z! j) D2 }2 i  R8 HHours of Work:  33.75 hours per week, Monday - Friday.
