# R3 P* D6 @3 ^: J6 G5 Q1 {- |The Advanced Materials business unit seeks a Safety Assistant to assist the business unit over the summer months.

* b: F* J+ c8 C0 C1 [0 @! yResponsibilities include:

! Q5 a& W, r& l4 {3 H9 t1 M1. Chemical list and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS’s)
  [, A$ m! U- _1 E6 B9 W• help complete up-to-date chemical lists for all laboratories within the department
• collect and obtain MSDS’s for all chemicals
• make sure all chemicals are properly labelled and stored
• proper disposal of all unwanted chemicals
• finalize chemical lists and then duplicate and label all MSDS’s for distribution to OH&S for the MSDS on line system.

! s# m. a) T) y( a( o1 [2. Standard Operation Procedures (SOP’s) and Hazard Assessments (HA’s)
• help update the department SOP’s and HA’s. This will include verification of existing SOP’s and HA’s and tracking any that are needed.

3. Tracking System
$ e8 f' A% C8 R• help develop a tracking system for adding or removal of chemicals as well as continual updating and verification of SOP’s and HA’s

  W7 k! l0 i& q6 V& y! CCandidates should be inquisitive, thorough, and willing to learn. Some education and/or experience in safety is preferred. Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment are required.

* f! |( z+ H$ dThis is a two-month summer position, preferably commencing the middle of June, which will pay an hourly wage commensurate with education and experience. Final candidates will be asked to undergo a security screening.
