Responsibilities include:

& X" G4 E. m, |' j1. Chemical list and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS’s)( ~6 {! L* ]* N& T# f! j. z2 I" q* d
• help complete up-to-date chemical lists for all laboratories within the department
. A/ D( s/ W! w3 _• collect and obtain MSDS’s for all chemicals% A5 ^0 A* v# `& L0 \3 M
• make sure all chemicals are properly labelled and stored
( C/ U- i$ d. K• proper disposal of all unwanted chemicals
. a- {, V" Q/ u Z+ i2 y: s- l3 z7 G6 Y• finalize chemical lists and then duplicate and label all MSDS’s for distribution to OH&S for the MSDS on line system.0 \: M* h- L0 s

2. Standard Operation Procedures (SOP’s) and Hazard Assessments (HA’s)
8 l2 G j5 b/ m: ^# U4 r8 V• help update the department SOP’s and HA’s. This will include verification of existing SOP’s and HA’s and tracking any that are needed.& j/ g; Z) f" e# [$ c

3. Tracking System# U- P7 c, C) g3 y; F# \/ C
• help develop a tracking system for adding or removal of chemicals as well as continual updating and verification of SOP’s and HA’s 0 z# f: m5 K* m$ n2 g: j+ N) c

Candidates should be inquisitive, thorough, and willing to learn. Some education and/or experience in safety is preferred. Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment are required.

This is a two-month summer position, preferably commencing the middle of June, which will pay an hourly wage commensurate with education and experience. Final candidates will be asked to undergo a security screening.
