The Advanced Materials business unit seeks a Safety Assistant to assist the business unit over the summer months.

Responsibilities include:. Z1 w+ V; T) A
1 @' O+ k- Q# T7 ]
1. Chemical list and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS’s); `. Q4 o( A4 w+ _, ^
• help complete up-to-date chemical lists for all laboratories within the department `( @, V" S8 \2 x2 [. R: k
• collect and obtain MSDS’s for all chemicals* u) \. v1 ^. M+ I. `+ W7 p0 h
• make sure all chemicals are properly labelled and stored
1 s' c$ I0 }, I2 i$ Y) ]• proper disposal of all unwanted chemicals' |7 c M! P* i- V5 g
• finalize chemical lists and then duplicate and label all MSDS’s for distribution to OH&S for the MSDS on line system.

2. Standard Operation Procedures (SOP’s) and Hazard Assessments (HA’s)
2 q J* R7 m6 r( _! p: O. K3 W• help update the department SOP’s and HA’s. This will include verification of existing SOP’s and HA’s and tracking any that are needed.0 `; s# O, p. {8 k) D
) w g8 G8 q) Z p8 W; e( G5 s3. Tracking System( b5 F+ W; W3 [( E# L1 g4 _$ y5 K( N
• help develop a tracking system for adding or removal of chemicals as well as continual updating and verification of SOP’s and HA’s + E7 t$ ]! y+ \. Q( c% g
1 M9 g0 P4 v6 n( [. XCandidates should be inquisitive, thorough, and willing to learn. Some education and/or experience in safety is preferred. Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment are required. ! w/ Z) Q1 ^6 V0 V
