The Advanced Materials business unit seeks a Safety Assistant to assist the business unit over the summer months. 3 t' {; \- Q! f8 D; F7 ^- r

Responsibilities include:3 `. X j, ~5 ^9 d
2 C6 D0 c% F" U1. Chemical list and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS’s)
3 |9 [' P: J, d; G; \0 J7 F5 Q• help complete up-to-date chemical lists for all laboratories within the department. u, e1 ~+ |6 C' v# \/ }$ m
• collect and obtain MSDS’s for all chemicals
! s: o( A$ j1 d# E/ M! ?; |- \• make sure all chemicals are properly labelled and stored2 ^/ y# Y c6 n9 W# P5 K
• proper disposal of all unwanted chemicals1 V( M4 |" u6 S; u; }
• finalize chemical lists and then duplicate and label all MSDS’s for distribution to OH&S for the MSDS on line system.

2. Standard Operation Procedures (SOP’s) and Hazard Assessments (HA’s)' P$ Z) b5 a% m1 N* `* D* J# p
• help update the department SOP’s and HA’s. This will include verification of existing SOP’s and HA’s and tracking any that are needed.

3. Tracking System o" B" ~' c `' }% p* b1 `/ B! e
• help develop a tracking system for adding or removal of chemicals as well as continual updating and verification of SOP’s and HA’s % j# ?- L2 z f w4 b5 E

Candidates should be inquisitive, thorough, and willing to learn. Some education and/or experience in safety is preferred. Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment are required.

This is a two-month summer position, preferably commencing the middle of June, which will pay an hourly wage commensurate with education and experience. Final candidates will be asked to undergo a security screening.
