The YOUCAN VERTO Project is a Government of Canada funded project that will% Q8 I" J, p, K, {! z) o0 ?$ v
bring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based
1 F6 E; f9 `" b8 B# ?employability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day
- U/ f7 \9 e6 K+ C, |+ P" Fprogram and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that
$ O+ D# h/ o9 P( ~stands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence.! U. Z, K8 d' z. u$ f: C& g
YOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our) A4 y W5 o& `& D, y: x g! Z
mission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve; e2 J7 L, ?) Z. m0 ]3 c2 c
conflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the
* ^0 b( h2 I6 R/ Q( t( K; Y" \VERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills
. v4 h% i) _! u% _8 t4 k# dnecessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve
5 R: Q3 s7 @- w: Hyouth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose8 h/ V, {, T8 A
participants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment0 M5 e' v) h7 b: o9 d& Y
development, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and& E& C3 g) y+ L! V% r2 C0 T2 h; Z7 Y
exposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and
; x* k1 @8 ]5 s5 c% z; G% F( N* {wellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a: H; z3 q! Z6 z' l' t- w
6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed., I- u7 C: I8 m! ]* X
The project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central" z; M8 E1 m1 w
YOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta.* m. p; u1 c7 t
The following position is a one-year contract with the possibility of

Employment Developer: 1 Full-Time Position (40hrs/week)
5 r( X2 J1 Y$ ?' K# y# b8 ?• Responsible for building relationships with employers within the
+ L, L: C) R8 _! K) r5 @0 Vcommunity to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are( z+ T U( }) `
willing to expose youth to the current employment opportunities! v, ^* K) C( X2 k
• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as" U: L. R3 g ]6 M1 ~9 Z, Y
being realistic to each youth participant: ?! D( F R, p
• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the
, k* d2 L5 [# Y) {youth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to' h$ b, J9 X; I: b: b& Y$ g
each participant v$ W9 z {* q: @( P
• Assist youth with employment development including the development of
2 r- E( W: V2 tcover letters and resumes etc.! l1 m0 V% G0 p. P: O& J3 l. y
• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work
9 Y* d4 J9 V6 C9 g1 |$ @* {experience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the$ v7 S8 a \& j h( O7 m! o- v/ ~$ Y
placements0 y7 i" {5 o2 |% C
• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating8 c# e; k i7 P2 \4 ~
the process, and supporting the youth where needed
3 O3 G% L4 H2 f& w P2 ?" G• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach+ E6 S% Q+ T1 B
is being fulfilled for each youth

related to YOUCAN’s Verto Project

 Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted

 Skilled in software applications, computers and other office equipment
