bring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based
8 @8 m1 _( I6 X2 B9 pemployability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day2 G( L0 C0 l! L6 ]
program and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that
2 Q' T0 A! l) M% W' bstands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence.. P0 V- p5 h9 C$ i9 ^6 \# o$ w
YOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our
8 I! ?+ X1 h* g xmission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve5 \* @, s( ?+ y. \- P( L
conflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the* t3 K) H; }3 \4 ]! n* I; D; M
VERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills* G; J6 R( w" Y! [9 b) W2 I
necessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve
8 T3 f( w& ` a' _3 r! Vyouth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose
# C% h0 A' ?5 v( e, `participants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment
7 P4 t% b/ E( U1 |& O6 [development, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and, L- j( X7 n# d$ F" ] v9 y
exposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and
3 Q W0 S+ A4 W! jwellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a
+ }8 ?8 h: f% n: p+ R) O, m6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed.) N+ m; d$ }. B( W+ J
The project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central( J* x# B! Q+ L' l V
YOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta.# f. y2 Q7 B' Y p
The following position is a one-year contract with the possibility of+ B$ D; k0 k- Q n, o1 I+ d
extension dependant of funding and performance. Resumes will be

( E1 Q+ J" @3 F; M+ w+ Z• Responsible for building relationships with employers within the4 a5 r8 }9 x' [& z7 V9 W0 f \
community to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are( v* r3 q/ p k% s( |$ R
willing to expose youth to the current employment opportunities
( X# U3 X& ^* c+ Y5 F, @• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as& v' }0 i+ `# h8 W
being realistic to each youth participant
3 ~$ z2 l& m$ E+ x" R• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the H% _: N# L+ X$ m V$ n. ]. v% j. e$ n
youth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to
; T) P9 s/ O U/ y; J: T* v: beach participant
# g2 E0 n. n" K$ F. N• Assist youth with employment development including the development of
1 {1 _% a3 {; k+ M. C! Z! q6 V" h+ Jcover letters and resumes etc.
+ B. ?: S9 G' [. l4 D$ I" o• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work
7 F+ L: U0 @1 v2 kexperience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the
4 q- {+ A* W7 @' ?8 g" U) a" yplacements9 D: L/ i5 l) A4 n
• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating
5 r# a3 [4 M4 V3 L1 o( M) pthe process, and supporting the youth where needed0 o/ P2 I8 S. I9 A7 m$ {" G
• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach
" [$ p$ t8 ~( b8 {is being fulfilled for each youth2 a" z: {; f8 r" a3 X i H
• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are& S2 f& U: o$ ^) V# ]
related to YOUCAN’s Verto Project0 U# W& q( f' v' i8 p
• Other tasks as they arise within the position

 Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted$ X$ g: T- ]4 O
 A minimum of three years relevant experience is required.4 q! w, D" A4 I( T
