bring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based' Y F: F& i) P3 ~; l! n% z/ _
employability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day7 S( d1 b- k) s; W+ l, t! X* [5 D
program and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that
: N( P2 Z$ d {: y! \stands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence.
5 i1 n; A# ?5 ^0 rYOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our- p7 X- E4 Y7 U
mission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve
) D2 i( C7 \9 {9 M% K5 fconflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the
0 s( `- u2 m" [1 ?3 |( {VERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills
5 B+ ]( j5 l, k: t3 Inecessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve; Q) P0 ], F0 w
youth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose
. D5 E- j3 L. m+ Pparticipants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment3 G4 l4 ~% b( R
development, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and
# @2 |6 m. r" H: q0 l( |: Hexposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and
h4 s0 @9 ^' _4 V: } {$ dwellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a
# w! @, A, i4 Q" h1 F6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed.
1 p% w# o& N6 I& w. H* r5 MThe project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central9 M& k m1 s o5 m
YOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta.% e% O# n0 R- J+ |, N# L
The following position is a one-year contract with the possibility of

Employment Developer: 1 Full-Time Position (40hrs/week)
& w! j4 ^. w* a8 `2 h) W% n• Responsible for building relationships with employers within the
$ \& g( X+ _8 y/ z" _community to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are' w; u# z/ o; ?( D1 x
willing to expose youth to the current employment opportunities
/ ~6 N2 r) s' V* g. ?# k" P• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as( c- p* o; y: z9 M% r; |; [# B
being realistic to each youth participant
5 N, ~1 ^$ L) l6 ?) [% o7 Q3 C• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the5 [( {. ` v1 Z
youth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to6 r. E3 x6 {. k1 Q' Q$ u0 i: {
each participant% y" V% V! D# ?+ g
• Assist youth with employment development including the development of/ @$ P3 }3 B# M
cover letters and resumes etc.6 y& Y G8 Q0 a# w
• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work8 P0 J; @# y" R" _6 b/ E
experience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the
/ j2 e6 t e2 @9 O" }% pplacements0 N! ^' z6 ~/ y, o9 }1 k0 B
• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating
8 Y" _- r, Q8 e3 Q. ?# V! hthe process, and supporting the youth where needed6 v5 a2 a4 ^) @- K. ~4 q
• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach
, {' B U' S( p. \is being fulfilled for each youth
& D$ [" }1 Z8 ] i" n: h& n) {, G. y• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are6 t- @/ G' _* e8 S2 s# {
related to YOUCAN’s Verto Project' A: B# Y5 s* t5 `
• Other tasks as they arise within the position
1 F9 X: K7 _% WExperience Required: Employment Developer" J! l6 Y# T2 ]7 d9 g' V
 Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted
$ M% i+ t# E$ R1 X7 B/ Y' ~ A minimum of three years relevant experience is required.

 Experience working with youth at risk, and able to assess the needs of youth, r+ f5 q$ n8 D+ ~; Z
at risk as it pertains to employment
