The YOUCAN VERTO Project is a Government of Canada funded project that will: h5 ^, G7 Y; ^& C. O2 @! {
bring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based
) `, a F# F. ~ Xemployability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day7 ?* P5 m/ D S& G# L
program and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that
; @3 S% P, A' B% n) F6 P" v! |0 bstands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence.
. w1 [# E+ i, y! l# u$ b9 U" h4 I+ JYOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our
+ {+ ^+ D1 ` N! n* vmission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve
' l5 ^7 u/ Q$ `8 jconflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the
6 z' v7 p6 `6 W. j9 L" lVERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills
) Z# g( O% C l. i6 j; t. K. Vnecessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve3 h! @( T+ w& n9 y) m) G7 b9 d6 ]# Y
youth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose7 Z. j+ D0 `, g% G7 m. u( _8 u
participants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment
2 \; h( k; Z6 e2 @4 q: | f; zdevelopment, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and
4 B: ~8 m9 z9 s+ p ~$ p: z" @exposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and
' K# u. q. U+ ]$ M* C1 gwellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a
; \. J* m* ^0 T4 r4 Z+ s$ b( b% {( c6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed.2 W+ j( L4 a8 M5 B) V
The project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central
& i& T$ u8 [7 G! W4 C1 {YOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta.; a% M* i3 j Z( z/ y
The following position is a one-year contract with the possibility of

• Responsible for building relationships with employers within the4 U1 j- H- _8 W* Z3 c& @) d
community to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are) M2 ^7 r9 @$ G8 Q/ P" L( K* \
willing to expose youth to the current employment opportunities
* P$ |2 |4 L# j% \+ z5 \# w• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as
. O' C7 k7 i+ [, Nbeing realistic to each youth participant( n2 z. a5 }1 z1 y: x
• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the
? Q% G- X: A; ]4 ?youth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to
. x& o7 ]5 g1 L8 c1 Leach participant, V: }/ l2 U4 k6 s3 ^
• Assist youth with employment development including the development of
, c2 K# N/ R( o% L: ]2 gcover letters and resumes etc.( a( q2 u( m- \$ a9 p8 ~0 i) |
• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work
I- y& w; a. { _) F3 texperience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the( q% h) Q6 p; A( E" i* s
placements
@: w- h0 J" h• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating0 {& I4 X" i4 A4 I$ p; F1 {9 `6 c
the process, and supporting the youth where needed
* g/ {* ~2 l" ?) a! ]+ v• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach

• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are
. o1 W4 s$ g& y! Q- r: @related to YOUCAN’s Verto Project

 Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted
7 s) B- B4 R, w1 S A minimum of three years relevant experience is required.
