CALGARY — Screams filled the air after a 17-year-old teen was killed after being struck in the head with a pickaxe at a house party.

Neighbours said about 100 teens were at a house in southeast Calgary when the attack happened in a detached garage about 11:50 p.m. Saturday. 8 r4 z- R. E7 u% `% @7 {$ o

Lisa Poole, who lives two doors down from where the teen died, rushed outside when she heard a lot of screaming. 7 O; X5 i1 e" @4 d

I saw one boy laying there with a pickaxe stuck through the front of his head and some blood on the ground ... I haven’t slept at all and I can’t get that picture out of my head.”

Jeff said two high school-aged girls live at the house with their mother. He said large parties are common at the residence. : c* s& L! K6 {5 }9 q/ v

& q! g2 Q1 Y% l7 B5 IChris Briggs, who grew up in the same neighbourhood and was friends with McKay, described him as nice guy and avid athlete. # o& l& u4 X9 P% i" c

Staff Sgt. Kevin Forsen said police are currently interviewing more than 40 witnesses to the attack.
