what about clichéd or hackneyed, are they closer? They both mean something by "overuse" but the end results still seem to difer from when I use 肉麻

I believe that languages are alive, for words like "cheesy", this slang dic can give you a much better idea of its real meaning than traditional ones.

cliché really means overused, predictable, 陈词滥调, 了无新意.  for example, in chinese shows, to imply that a woman is pregnant , she will always suddenly rush into the washroom and start to vomit, that's a cliche scene. so cliche!

9 Z8 D3 D) Z! C8 uso far I think "cheesy" is really THE word, as per the slang dic.

Slang depends on area, and culture too. Some slangs works in some area but may never work in other areas, meaning if you use it, nobody understand. So I still doubt Cheesy can really mean Rou Ma formaly.

" J7 i6 c2 z8 b6 b8 Hcheesy often means "cheap, flimsy and of low quality". However, when it is used to describe food, it usually means "of a lot of cheese"; when describing an emotional/sentimental scenario, it could mean "fake", "of low class",  caused by affectation, which may very much make one to feel "rou ma" , "goose bumps" is just one of its infamous side effects.
