The Class 5 Road Test for New Drivers
What activities will I do during my road test?0 A1 u+ L% D5 u/ E. D

You are required to know and demonstrate:

· proper lane changing

The road test will run the full time unless the Examiner feels that your safety, or the safety of others, is at risk.* u1 d. ?, b0 B7 o
For example, if you do not show good judgment of time and distance when turning left in front of oncoming traffic,1 [) V. d+ d& g

· All Driver Examiners are licensed by Alberta Infrastructure and Transportation under the Driver Training

, o5 W+ \2 Q5 P: B! jtests. They should be courteous and professional, keeping conversation at all times relevant to the- t! L. \6 w d" a2 t; H' A

9 t, X- M: e& c4 v i· You must have your Learner’s licence. If you have a temporary licence (non-photo)
# X- ? N0 `( H3 m- vthen you must also provide acceptable photo ID.
6 N. m i* R3 |# {, Z· Wear clothing that is practical for driving and comfort. It should be appropriate for the4 @" L1 |$ T3 t# m @+ w
weather conditions (in case your vehicle breaks down and you have to wait or walk).: \) ^* g: I% L- U
· Your vehicle must meet all legal requirements (good mechanical condition, valid
7 d$ Y, h& {" Y5 j: Q5 [insurance and registration) and have enough fuel for at least one hour of driving.

: ?! U9 b. T, R; mThe Examiner will do a vehicle check with you. You will be in the driver’s seat and the examiner will ask you to
! r, I: L2 E9 Q7 M, tassist in checking the signal and brake lights, horn, brakes, and steering. You will be asked to describe and* U- `6 b/ U' ~ L* T- ^
demonstrate two of the instruments or controls inside the vehicle, such as the hazard lights and windshield
) \, e' ]1 P3 ~& ?$ H3 u0 ~wipers. The Examiner will provide information before you move the vehicle about the route and the instructions1 b. h& l7 [. W9 m& R; J$ U
that you will be given during the test.& a$ O6 r" p7 z; s* ?

· Points will be assigned for errors. You will be allowed a maximum of 75 points to pass the road test.# |" m3 [9 W) X
You must not do anything that is considered unlawful, dangerous, or unsafe, (for example, speeding or not
* Q+ z* I4 Y# }9 S/ Bstopping at a stop sign).
; u- `0 m& C" F; }· The Examiner will not try to trick you.+ z/ u5 N) u/ F! z+ F) k3 ?
· The Examiner will not ask you to do anything illegal.
' {7 }3 M/ T! m. Z$ P7 O6 e: b7 l· When the road test is finished, the Examiner will highlight the areas you performed well, as well as4 ?6 w6 h. P: \8 ]7 B
the areas you need to improve upon. The points for errors will be explained at this time.

The Examiner will give you a copy of the Driver Examination Checklist form. You will also be given a copy of the% d& Z1 h( Z' p
Test Permit. This will indicate that you have passed. Take this permit, along with your learner’s licence, to any
" V L3 G* v# oAlberta Registry Agent to have your licence changed to a Class 5 Probationary Licence. There will be a fee for this2 e5 y$ L4 n7 I) X" ~
service.

What do I do if I do not pass my road test?
