Edmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis./ x8 H% o$ B9 s

FUNCTIONS:5 N$ W5 L' n5 d* s: S' ?
• Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
' y( k; ^7 l% t) h7 b, ^/ b( {• Collect proper fare, issue transfers." _: o3 u5 b7 c: w( o/ ~" w7 ~- c
• Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.# O6 y8 M$ ~9 a) c# M: ^: N
• Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather 6 w$ f9 @) U6 i
and traffic conditions.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
* J+ w3 m) i; L• Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
$ w4 o! Y0 f' @! c3 C• Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
/ N5 O& E3 b9 ]+ P( @8 Uto be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger

• Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).; `- A$ T5 W a" s8 @* g
• Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
+ `. Q9 O/ }+ @$ j' D( ], h! p• Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
* C8 ~3 Y. O) H9 ]9 }3 [2 Z• Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
7 o+ S# T5 M$ d* O) {6 S! S' F+ Nshowing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period. 1 V7 I8 d: `4 e+ a% r
• Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
$ @+ I$ {5 P: J9 }2 bvideo-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).

& S! f- j) Y2 K' ]4 d$ _# U• Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

HOURS OF WORK:: L/ U) O# r7 q X2 V
Various hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
: z6 \* m5 R0 r4 {# k1st year: Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly c$ v# O- c6 T6 ^
Thereafter: Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly9 {) n }2 x* u: E+ `

SALARY RANGE: 401, Salary Grade: 004 : n. b8 y5 E8 C. R
Training Rate: $16.56 Hourly

The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
