Edmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.7 V$ w2 v4 r2 y- E# L7 v5 v# F

FUNCTIONS:
9 y! D1 ?& v F4 l$ l( d5 k• Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
4 v' `* m+ T& d. E• Collect proper fare, issue transfers.

• Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather 1 |9 e: S8 R) V
and traffic conditions.

• Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.

• Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.: ~. c0 n3 z2 T- }; b
• Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
! @ p. V. s3 v9 x# wto be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger / B/ r; K% `& ]# W& x% A {" }, x& t* l
of the day.
a v) G/ \7 u( M" ]; x0 O3 U! B" H0 G• Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
1 N6 j( S0 n4 F+ h$ x* ?• Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.- k+ s8 f7 Y. t1 ^: a1 m
• Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.

showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period. 2 h- T; j5 w5 \" y4 }$ M
• Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill " o& O/ q' n9 J# O
video-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).

1st year: Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly4 {' x9 [- F" K
Thereafter: Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly+ F& h+ `, `& \' H

Post Training Rate: $20.36 - $25.45 Hourly- \; E, {% Q: n" H: d: s$ Y. v
The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
