Do you have a strong customer service background with well developed people-skills?  Do you enjoy driving and the challenges of dealing with the public in a diverse work environment?  If you answer yes, and you can meet the requirements below, we’re interested in you.
/ J0 J* `& _5 W5 Q5 P. ^Edmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.; Q& m8 W. G" _* v9 ~6 E

•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
3 f" F% U8 c! L& [•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.+ N, R9 q" S+ W) M0 s
•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.0 o# N& |+ F& f( i& d
•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather 7 D- y7 C' |7 t& H+ z% z1 i
and traffic conditions.

•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations. ) I( Q/ _) |5 j# w$ A8 \
•        Ensure the safety of all passengers.

•        Communicate effectively in a variety of situations.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
7 H* _) I) ~6 e; I, U+ {3 [. k; E•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.$ s; n4 T6 r# e, U" T* ?
•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
6 b( k- F- U8 X! x5 Tto be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger

8 z2 y# n7 D3 W  f+ v  S0 d+ ~•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).8 \5 V. o- a1 w' D+ k
•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.. ?8 T/ g# L: ]. B# n, a4 `
•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
4 Z: n& v4 f6 U•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date) 0 z+ q( j* \5 Z. h3 \
showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
- Y& c$ R2 D6 W+ }& |; O. o•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill 4 a. Z+ x5 y) B
video-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).( g' C& u+ R: q3 i0 ]0 n
•        Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.
/ N; m* z9 ?5 b. t•        Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.+ ?! i4 G# M/ H1 `

HOURS OF WORK:
6 g4 Q* f+ A* E* \# S' yVarious hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
+ B7 _7 R4 A' i" D1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
5 `* t' k. m9 t1 D2 {/ BThereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly
: I9 N' b, [9 {; @$ v- `" j1 _+ a" H+ P9 l; X
SALARY RANGE:  401, Salary Grade: 004 6 I; J, J9 E- m3 O
Training Rate:  $16.56 Hourly

The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.$ T6 a; b' O6 `0 E, V8 d8 w
