8 v/ R3 @6 r+ T1 G) n% _Edmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

! g# M; O5 b8 zFUNCTIONS:
+ E5 a( @8 K. `; M/ `3 r•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
3 x( Z* Q3 \) [2 y) V•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather
and traffic conditions.
•        Adhere to schedules.
, Y: C- P5 E* n2 y' B# ~•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.
  W; ], z" z4 ?•        Ensure the safety of all passengers.

•        Communicate effectively in a variety of situations.
•        Provide excellent customer service.

( ^4 ?* o; b/ m8 I2 ]JOB REQUIREMENTS:
•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
, d. G0 M( O* y. E•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
9 b8 e  l' n8 Cto be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger
of the day.
•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
. J' p- p4 {0 Z, j1 e2 S% l•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
. M, e) E! Y4 J' g* f8 S' b& k2 gshowing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
7 _) f" y  ]# ?; L8 e! M; Yvideo-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).
•        Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.
% G! ~$ z& S* j; w( X% n; O•        Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

7 ]/ B% W& @) `* {3 h) T9 R* R5 yHOURS OF WORK:
6 b7 X6 u5 k& K/ mVarious hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
2 D$ Y$ k* @+ n# x5 j1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
Thereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly

6 V2 k  H2 W; [SALARY RANGE:  401, Salary Grade: 004
& ]& r! P. V6 g; ATraining Rate:  $16.56 Hourly
Post Training Rate:  $20.36 - $25.45 Hourly
