Edmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.2 t V5 F9 O5 R6 {2 S# N

6 u w8 R8 {) j• Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
* _& C( R* x+ `, X• Collect proper fare, issue transfers.9 m3 K, a/ y0 q8 E' y
• Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
# ^: H0 G' L+ L% C• Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather ' g9 p0 y0 A: {/ y5 {. n2 m

• Adhere to schedules.

5 O0 j& J; i( X• Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset./ a4 a: E* L. o) A! e
• Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
. q+ A+ C: ]; |7 q- h$ gto be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger

4 C! a( t! L( g! ~4 t• Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
+ v* F+ r2 }; O9 j# B4 G9 G• Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
# [6 W( g4 h X' h( F• Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.9 y [1 e$ l0 e' {
• Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date) 6 Q3 v4 b7 N* |+ E1 j
showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period. + l/ A$ D6 ?2 h/ ]
• Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill ) t+ b v! @8 i x" Q. ~+ a% H
video-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).
+ I4 X7 P; v( ]4 u7 a$ A/ u• Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.
; }! ?5 L7 q$ A' X+ Q; x `6 p! Z• Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

1st year: Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly

The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
