Edmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.( F3 S$ P  |4 d; e0 z

2 ^7 F% @4 L% m' p•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
' p3 c4 r! A: g6 u  C$ H•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.4 O  F6 J7 K" Y2 [5 N, O( I
•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
, o! F& `( U% O$ l* ~•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather

•        Adhere to schedules.$ L/ J+ h4 ~$ Q" Y
•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations. 3 E' Z0 T( l6 }% w' Q- Q
•        Ensure the safety of all passengers.8 p$ ]; [+ R( _1 G$ C; w9 i- ^. g
•        Handle diverse and challenging situations.

•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.) C8 q! g  X7 p4 D
•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
% h5 ]' n0 v9 U( f" d. Q5 b" X5 fto be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger 6 h8 p. q/ R4 I3 Y* [0 d0 I. O

•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
! T2 T; ~9 U9 t$ Q& L# N•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
- x- |# u+ ?+ i: T2 e+ a# y•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
0 w3 {4 l/ X+ {•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date) + n" Q- p/ ~7 p$ a8 M
showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period. # y+ h* p4 B; p( I2 B' d( P
•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill 5 r, m. o* m% e8 c
video-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).* s  I, C3 P6 }& S# X. W
•        Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.
: k9 u/ n9 M* k6 c4 a# ]5 n•        Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.+ _+ u' x% l( T( a& X

HOURS OF WORK:2 v! W" W3 x, e! ~5 D4 n" c
Various hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week " K( C. D+ @  ]/ t! T, T2 w
1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
* V, J4 F( M4 V8 gThereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly4 V! R& c. u4 ]3 Z2 F9 f6 |

% V: Y) O7 p1 b1 KSALARY RANGE:  401, Salary Grade: 004
# y% b. o4 A0 q9 mTraining Rate:  $16.56 Hourly
