Edmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

FUNCTIONS:
% F0 t2 O: i d$ I• Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes./ z+ u2 }4 E+ I! F2 D
• Collect proper fare, issue transfers.0 h! B2 ` }" P+ j" j: r" F
• Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
. V2 f+ t9 A3 B' O9 Q" ~• Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather

• Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations. 6 H, u' F( ?, V, d2 Z( C% Q: |
• Ensure the safety of all passengers.

• Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.0 S" N9 W4 ?# f' L
• Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability 6 ~) a5 N/ P$ N/ ?7 s
to be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger

• Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).( X* D$ [; `6 j" y+ b Y
• Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.; E g! t3 {; C: V, ~
• Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
, B+ E: k8 J' Z' `8 i* y• Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
- g. B5 z: n S" C, ?showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
! }, @& ?& \( |, V* R• Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
( @. P) Y! R7 q6 f, n$ y* rvideo-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training)., B: J6 ?7 @! U+ w E* T

1st year: Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly

Training Rate: $16.56 Hourly
