3 S! p5 @" a' Z; S- I# }Edmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

1 n5 c/ l* e5 c7 z: FFUNCTIONS:
$ s9 ]1 R* W* S+ V! ^3 q•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
/ k8 ]6 K% E2 g6 n# g7 j5 j•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather
and traffic conditions.
4 Q8 F4 a6 e3 Q" g5 u•        Adhere to schedules.
$ b  I2 d3 _0 C3 p•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.
•        Ensure the safety of all passengers.
•        Handle diverse and challenging situations.
) ~4 Y8 g  X/ I% {+ s& `% R•        Communicate effectively in a variety of situations.
•        Provide excellent customer service.

3 v- a# ?5 Z  W4 O, T3 X; ~JOB REQUIREMENTS:
•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
to be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger

•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
& _# e# E2 ^" U# w•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
6 O9 B- c0 d7 F. i; j4 a2 j•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
video-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).
•        Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.

% [! N; o( O+ C) d: `; wVarious hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
# T7 z2 {4 C3 CThereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly

SALARY RANGE:  401, Salary Grade: 004
Training Rate:  $16.56 Hourly
; {$ }; t/ G. m2 x) n  g7 u/ [Post Training Rate:  $20.36 - $25.45 Hourly
The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
