/ H9 ]9 w, n) uJOB SUMMARY:  The Chief Returning Officer reports to the President of  / a3 y# _  B. x7 J( J# X
the Students' Union and oversees all electoral logistics as per Bylaw  
5 N" W$ {6 i( D) z2000.  The Chief Returning Officer shall be recommended to Students'  , ~5 H, q) l. B9 r( t& W6 u, r
Council in the manner set out in the Council Administration Committee  
8 `  d$ U& Q1 HStanding Orders by April 15 and serve from May 1 to April 30 of the  + A# u1 K6 C9 ?/ o
year following their appointment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:# u, }* K% z  H6 H$ ^7 O) ^8 e

- W( w6 F: e: q7 W7 X, G1) To run the elections as per Bylaws 20002 L. n4 A4 Q6 m( m

1 b5 A  C" w, h  S: }5 h% a2) To run referenda/plebiscites as per Bylaw 2000.

! b& m# m  ^. K& q5 L8 d  W+ m3) To choose the Deputy Returning Officer(s) and assign their duties.& u% z% J% V) N/ ^
1 P" p  I) _; n0 B& z, X
4) To organize polls during elections/referenda, including appointing  9 g! g& M1 k* y' Q
adequate poll staff and situating polls at appropriate locations  
( U. f" j. L+ ^! ~$ J2 ^across campus, and advertising the poll locations., e" D4 B0 O3 T9 C2 `/ u
3 n& C* c. w0 D1 I' ]1 e
5) To oversee the physical count of the ballots during elections/

$ b9 ?$ h8 M  e  Z6) To report the result of an election/referendum to the appropriate  
+ D) l7 z) o8 t" g5 yparties.: w; e4 y1 ^" x

  D; I. y+ X& T4 W7) To facilitate classroom speaking arrangements during an election/ ! H3 E' q% N* x3 [$ Q
referendum.( R% ^6 w  o, ^3 n; l1 y

5 E$ J* F' i! a* p) D7 s+ J To enforce budgetary regulations as stipulated in the Elections  & {8 k$ n; q- `3 i3 {- H' S
Bylaw 2000.
# C2 Z# L' R: T, L3 u' R; ~' t" y( W) x! G# H/ R- Z+ U) W. d
10) To be available to all parties during elections/referenda for a  
3 P, ~7 }* R& `( \& zminimum of four (4) working hours a day, between Monday to Friday,  0 A3 T7 M3 V; Y+ A% Q: U
from the first working day after nominations close until the last day  * m+ \: N8 V( t, R5 a' H( q. L
of voting.  These hours are to be posted in advance.
; e( `$ Y( o* I' D5 r7 ]/ p: Z. F! e+ ^4 K+ A7 ]
11) To act as the arbitrator in any dispute which may arise during  
5 G4 g( z6 R0 v, ]the course of an election/referendum.% `* a/ M. d; {
! k0 C$ e7 G0 b# N9 B
12) To ensure that a cost effective and accurate ballot counting  # @$ E, ?# c4 M  S- Y( c' C
process is in place.

# O3 m! X2 t2 _9 o8 W3 z; V13) To submit to Students' Council, prior to April 30, a final report  
/ D; i/ z8 u4 ^of activities and recommendations.

14) To organize a minimum of one (1) forum to be held during the week  
2 R- c! n: Z2 z; p8 {( n& X  C) Qof campaigning.

QUALIFICATIONS:

2 O5 Z, P* n& w4 o& q- z( M1) Must be an undergrad student registered in at least one (1) course  
! m2 H8 V3 p8 C# {/ t- @4 [for each of the terms of Winter Session and shall be a full Students'  
6 r9 d/ s0 K9 [7 Y" Y# ZUnion member.+ j9 j7 p5 C: V$ [& R+ Q

+ I8 y6 q4 c: V/ q6 R2) Must have some experience in student elections.5 j# l7 m" m) X
& S2 ?. Z. G/ U" ]% \
3) Shall not concurrently hold a position on Students' Council, or  
7 c" i: I; L/ p1 {) U/ g2 e8 \any of its standing boards, committees, or any other paid position  ) P2 R2 q& W8 u+ k
with the Students' Union.( R9 L- }# O8 ^" y, N
4 R! P3 V' p5 _$ t7 S: m' i
4) Willingness and ability to work varying hours.
& U0 _$ X- E* ~6 U7 v9 u2 T5 u, b# W0 l" Q$ X9 e, k
5) Excellent project management skills are required.
