Remuneration: $6,032.00 contract

JOB SUMMARY:  The Chief Returning Officer reports to the President of  5 ~0 v2 m7 H; |- Z8 D
the Students' Union and oversees all electoral logistics as per Bylaw  
0 {& a6 x) u2 p2000.  The Chief Returning Officer shall be recommended to Students'  
: f. Y5 ~5 H5 v* L4 PCouncil in the manner set out in the Council Administration Committee  
( z9 R, S* @* B- ~2 L6 zStanding Orders by April 15 and serve from May 1 to April 30 of the  
4 [) j. l* D, @2 _year following their appointment.6 {. m- \& Y& C) l: x" n

+ t2 b' @/ D) B( t  PDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:! i2 O7 ^. W/ u8 t. ?% q8 T

5 M+ w9 P8 Z, T1) To run the elections as per Bylaws 2000
1 o3 T- B5 _* S) N# W! }5 o# L4 V$ Z' F! Z5 `! j0 o( z
2) To run referenda/plebiscites as per Bylaw 2000.
7 B3 y. L, g# l, D1 N; x# v- O9 j5 m# M
3) To choose the Deputy Returning Officer(s) and assign their duties.& i2 w5 a0 g; b( @7 P2 T

, [4 Z7 v5 W' F$ [0 a) |2 p" \4) To organize polls during elections/referenda, including appointing  ; Z: R3 g( ~" i) {% U" c
adequate poll staff and situating polls at appropriate locations  
" N3 C* d( l/ s3 M( T! Qacross campus, and advertising the poll locations.

5 K' k. ]0 Y! d5) To oversee the physical count of the ballots during elections/ 4 j! p) m% R6 e# ^5 v/ x0 w
referenda.
* h: o- C/ ]; e7 x" P( Z$ e# D2 \+ G/ f
6) To report the result of an election/referendum to the appropriate  - _& `5 x1 U) D$ j$ k9 e; P! Z9 c0 z" [5 J
parties.

! [6 W: C9 C% |. L% ?7) To facilitate classroom speaking arrangements during an election/
1 d. E. n+ M2 o' z; t5 r+ X# [referendum.

" W. A/ K+ d6 w) _ To enforce budgetary regulations as stipulated in the Elections  $ G+ e) h3 h9 H3 r& f$ w
Bylaw 2000.

10) To be available to all parties during elections/referenda for a  
* K1 v: n- u" T6 bminimum of four (4) working hours a day, between Monday to Friday,  
' ^) b+ H3 K9 }from the first working day after nominations close until the last day  
3 s8 [1 e% c% d( H+ cof voting.  These hours are to be posted in advance.
$ e" a! R" L7 q. |0 R& A. I; n0 b  X4 I8 K
11) To act as the arbitrator in any dispute which may arise during  ! [! p( D8 X( V& p! o5 ^4 q
the course of an election/referendum.. g$ E" U, N0 @- }0 D- b! m- w% U
+ {4 f& o& v) J; J% r4 d6 B
12) To ensure that a cost effective and accurate ballot counting  
& h/ m. @, e. _# J. Aprocess is in place.) T- `( I" m: R; @, J
) E" z  ^+ b1 E' Z. G  a
13) To submit to Students' Council, prior to April 30, a final report  " c$ ]& L+ ]. E
of activities and recommendations.

& w; w5 `# \1 {! Z14) To organize a minimum of one (1) forum to be held during the week  
* l; Y- o$ C) n5 o( h% I% jof campaigning.

15) Perform other job related duties as required by the Council  1 D) A0 s: `' t! `- [& N, f' n

QUALIFICATIONS:7 ^- [- e9 Y; C9 j, m6 V

6 k  \. e$ n. D# n0 Y% L7 M# y1) Must be an undergrad student registered in at least one (1) course  + e1 x: x: E% p. @7 r4 ^. v( S
for each of the terms of Winter Session and shall be a full Students'  6 v* p) t) N$ Q' \$ q1 g
Union member.
" E; n9 Z. M: o$ R
, c* ^( v9 ]' ^' I: E6 m; I& X2) Must have some experience in student elections.
# _  R+ T( d) A0 W8 Y& {  X
/ f( e; z: Q8 i' l& L4 b  Y$ k3) Shall not concurrently hold a position on Students' Council, or  
, w3 U5 z$ O* c# R' H3 T# D: Oany of its standing boards, committees, or any other paid position  & Q: `/ o" R1 w6 J  }4 @. I8 U
with the Students' Union.0 j, r  J0 Y4 ?

( S0 p! s; M1 ^. |0 H( G5) Excellent project management skills are required.
