Specific duties vary with positions and Departments and involve performing general labouring duties that may include:
' x+ \# G, Z5 U$ ^, KDrainage Services, Asset Management & Public Works
+ u- K# _+ {# \5 j" O• Construction of sewer lines, catch basins, access and drop manholes, watermains, feedmains, hydrants, ditches, water appurtenances, concrete structures such as storm outlets.
% ?4 }. w4 @) X4 N* u y- j& ?, R• Digging holes and trenches by hand, excavation activities on major open cut projects ensuring placement of shoring, timbers, and struts; cutting, grinding levelling, jointing and laying of pipe.+ i( V$ V; ~# `2 @
• Repairing sewer services, main lines and pumping stations; cleaning sewer and drainage systems by low pressure flushing; assisting drainage servicemen in inspecting, rodding and televising sewer services; repairing manholes and catchbasins; assisting equipment operators in performing high pressure flushing and vaccuum cleaning activities.: Z" _# x7 U8 X4 e$ h$ @
Parks, Asset Management & Public Works' A; K* \- U8 b7 N4 h
• Maintenance of parks: mowing, herbiciding and sanitation of turf, shrub and flower bed maintenance, marking & maintaining sports fields, playground inspections and servicing. ; j# V1 s) P* a0 M; q
• Construction of parks: manual labour using hand tools such as shovels, rakes and stake pounders.
4 W0 W ?0 H9 z/ F& z• Park service and trail maintenance: including sanitation of picnic sites, amenity buildings, repair of signs, roadways, trail surfaces, irrigation & homeless camps.9 {& ~# H* c1 ]# U/ r3 r$ e
• Forestry operations including various arboriculture tasks- assist in the development and maintenance of the urban forest.

• Labourers may be provided with rate up opportunities where required.

• Asphalt/concrete repairs, cracksealing, and paving.
7 i6 N. H& U" V# b% `- _3 m• Performing structural concrete/steel duties on bridge maintenance (must be able to work heights).8 \; ~+ q2 u/ q3 E5 d
• Pouring, spreading, tamping and leveling soil, sand, gravel and concrete.

, v% V$ N$ y" R5 O( v$ V• Golf course, driving range, and park maintenance including turf mowing, fertilizer and pesticide application.
. V& Z$ Y$ F( J% _! Y• Internments at cemetaries; concrete pouring of foundations and markers; monument restoration.

• Set up and take down of furniture and equipment for events and bookings at Recreation Facilities.

• Loading and unloading materials from trucks.

Job Requirements:
4 [& B, t( @( v• Completion of the eighth school grade or equivalent. Must be indicated on application/resume.
* ~% M7 Q% y& f8 u' s1 Q9 ^• Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Must be indicated on application/resume.
4 l5 s0 ~6 A- k$ m9 I$ r6 h• Applicants may be tested, and where required to operate a City vehicle, must attain a City of Edmonton driving permit upon appointment.
* n7 |+ d# c$ |! W• Physically capable of performing heavy labour work for extended periods of time under various weather and traffic conditions.
" @/ n9 M# b Q# g* `; o• Manual dexterity to operate simple hand and/or power tools and small equipment.
" }/ w3 w e2 i( c z, @• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.# O' T! X* T+ ?
• Team player & self-motivated, possibility of working alone on scheduled shift.4 D1 S+ U$ s/ A
HOURS OF WORK: Up to 40 hours per week. Hours of work will vary with each position. These positions may be subject to shift work, providing coverage 7 days per week. Please indicate if you’re interested in shift work." D8 i3 {. G, c, [( m& B: C
SALARY RANGE: 10M, Salary Grade: 013, starting at $15.11 (Hourly). Rates are based on employee status and length of service. The rates quoted are in accordance with an agreement between the Union and the City.+ t1 X- L* |' s1 ~
