Calgary police have now laid charges against an 18-year-old Calgary woman following the death of a little girl at a crosswalk in the city's northwest.% U! i6 k5 q% j% k. m5 z
Police Sgt. Doug McIlwraith said Tuesday that Angela Ta has been charged with passing a motor vehicle stopped for a pedestrian at a crosswalk, failing to yield at a crosswalk, and careless driving.% G9 Z1 ]* K: e: R1 D2 @
McIlwraith says the charges could mean a licence suspension, a $2,000 fine or six months in jail.% ~. ~8 w5 l. T! T _ V
Six-year-old Jenna Chang and her mother, Ye Qiao, were struck Jan. 18 by a black BMW while using a marked crosswalk at 32 Avenue and 37 Street N.W.! v4 `) x P3 d% r( ^& h
Chang died of her injuries. Her mother is recovering in hospital.
