　　A hundred leagues locked in ice,

) h4 s: _! M7 I/ E2 c0 G1 v　　A thousand leagues of whirling snow.

　　Both sides of the Great Wall
) r& I; Q9 j2 x5 z6 x
# T" I2 q& w; N　　One single white immensity.
) L( K, Q9 I7 U! d7 ?% }
　　The Yellow River"s swift current

6 ?) r: O/ c9 \　　Is stilled from end to end.

3 l' Z* G3 f5 J　　The mountains dance like silver snakes
( n8 G0 b( \& w
$ I) B8 w( k+ }　　And the highlands* charge like wax-hued elephants,
# J* ^% {) _' m! j3 j& ~$ u/ _% q9 V
/ T9 n1 i3 v) D2 ^　　Vying with heaven in stature.

3 c9 Q' m( U/ v7 M* T  `　　On a fine day, the land,

; n# t1 e: z) {! x1 ]9 K$ s　　Clad in white, adorned in red,
4 G4 E7 o  W5 c/ W3 Q/ }" ^
, u% [# l/ c4 T　　Grows more enchanting.

　　This land so rich in beauty
) Y/ _! Z) ^) ^+ s
　　Has made countless heroes bow in homage.

　　But alas! Chin Shih-huang and Han Wu-ti

　　Were lacking in literary grace,

　　And Tang Tai-tsung and Sung Tai-tsu

1 O, v- b: W7 E) t　　Had little poetry in their souls;
; a) S$ R+ e9 s1 i　　And Genghis Khan,

) y" |$ @" ?( q% }　　Proud Son of Heaven for a day,
& E/ p, }5 n" u7 [# n
　　Knew only shooting eagles, bow outstretched
# ^$ g/ P- u3 Y) A5 G" n8 k
　　All are past and gone!
) k1 l% U& E* ]7 j
　　For truly great men

　　Look to this age alone.
