A 92-year-old, petite, well-poised and proud man, who is fully dressed ' Z& S# D( {5 O' J3 I$ T' P
each morning by eight o'clock, with his hair fashionably coifed and
4 }- i$ u) S3 c- {' S) pshaved perfectly applied, even though he is legally blind, moved to a
9 [! Z) k" F2 Q& H5 W$ jnursing home today. , \& n+ c: n, e$ X
+ @ }) h% v8 n3 U dHis wife of 70 years recently passed away, making the move necessary.
B; _0 Y4 u4 ~1 ` x: hAfter many hours of waiting patiently in the lobby of the nursing home, ( B- w. q2 f/ ]5 u
he smiled sweetly when told his room was ready. : W/ @7 d2 Z# ^: Q5 C5 r# t
( Z$ T0 J: o7 J& V/ G* B
As he maneuvered his walker to the elevator, I provided a visual $ Y: }8 a( d4 |, L
description of his tiny room, including the eyelet sheets that had been # ]; v5 u$ f% c6 ]! f w9 _
hung on his window.

, K# @) i1 i. O" z' R6 O% b"I love it," he stated with the enthusiasm of an eight-year-old having 0 { l% `0 Y1 ]4 g' |# T' S; F
just been presented with a new puppy. : {1 B! Y# T& j0 u2 }$ q

"Mr. Jones, you haven't seen the room; just wait." $ C/ ~, x" w8 O
* W- ]9 I( `9 L"That doesn't have anything to do with it," he replied. + P: Y& Y6 Y# ]' K/ C+ L

"Happiness is something you decide on ahead of time. Whether I like my + c/ r* j' P+ f! D% m W
room or not doesn't depend on how the furniture is arranged ... it's how
# Q1 O: Z4 h- c" ^( II arrange my mind. I already decided to love it."

It's a decision I make every morning when I wake up. / Z. \4 F! f% y
- R6 R0 G$ S2 h) EI have a choice; I can spend the day in bed recounting the difficulty I 1 X2 c" a9 o |
have with the parts of my body that no longer work, or get out of bed % ?: `" [1 w; d+ y+ P p: l
and be thankful for the ones that do.

! f0 I1 Y) _, ZEach day is a gift, and as long as my eyes open I'll focus on the new
* T) M% X. T( mday and all the happy memories I've stored away.

Just for this time in my life.

Old age is like a bank account. You withdraw from what you've put in.

So, my advice to you would be to deposit a lot of happiness in the bank

I am still depositing." Remember the five simple rules to be happy:

1. Free your heart from hatred.
