EDMONTON — The West Edmonton Mall has reopened after police investigated a suspicious package Tuesday morning.+ O. Y6 {) z2 v, }3 r* [
% M5 q. k+ P+ V" a; ?* I1 a$ c
The item, which turned out to be a DVD player, was reported to police just after 8:30 a.m. and officers swooped in to shut down entrances to the shopping centre.
+ y& g" I! Y% n# T9 t3 C4 J
. C! C) I; g5 \" L, zPolice evacuated the mall, and a short time later determined the package was merely a DVD player left on a bench outside the SportCheck store.

"I think we made a very measured response and dealt with the safely issues appropriately," said Staff Sgt. Steve Jones. "We just contained an area within the mall."( z, ?2 G5 b4 J: N
