Edmonton home builders say they are working non-stop to meet a demand they haven’t seen since the boom of 2005.5 t: U; c8 W! j {

Builders started construction on 468 new single detached homes last month, a 34 per cent increase from August 2013.

“Right now we're running flat out, we’re building as much as we can,” said Rob Busby, construction manager for Landmark Homes.

# J; p' d1 k* [" l+ ^% S: b& z7 ZThe increased demand is due to strong job and population growth, according to Christina Butchart, senior analyst with the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation.* l2 `+ k- `, x
. a& f) V% o8 {; R* f( m“If you look at the number of people who are moving into Edmonton, it’s record high levels so that’s contributing to that expanding demand,” she said.
