Edmonton home builders working 'flat out' to meet demand

Edmonton home builders say they are working non-stop to meet a demand they haven’t seen since the boom of 2005.

Builders started construction on 468 new single detached homes last month, a 34 per cent increase from August 2013. f v* _# a8 u7 _) T" W! G
" C4 }4 w4 u. u“Right now we're running flat out, we’re building as much as we can,” said Rob Busby, construction manager for Landmark Homes.) Q$ U2 Y3 W" J- F6 z3 I

The increased demand is due to strong job and population growth, according to Christina Butchart, senior analyst with the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation.) k) w2 S/ h! M u; g i
' O5 S* t! r2 h! d' K; O“If you look at the number of people who are moving into Edmonton, it’s record high levels so that’s contributing to that expanding demand,” she said.
