Y) z5 y( j9 r2 V& VNewcomers are being offered some help when shopping for a home in Edmonton’s tight housing market.
8 t# r+ _2 S8 aImmigrant women and their families can now access a “household toolkit” crafted by a local service group for new immigrant families, through real estate agents. - E, \+ K% c# L- i2 ?' B
% P; F3 F9 N7 S8 O H8 fIn the tool kit are 75 common hand tools – like a hammer and screwdriver – as well a book on how to buy a home, a home maintenance schedule and other items.

5 J* B1 {% r Q1 O“The tools are a symbol of hope for people trying to build new lives in Edmonton,” said Madeline Sarafinchan, president of the Edmonton Real Estate Board.

The program was announced by a group called Changing Together… A Centre for Immigrant Women.

Josephine Pallard, the group’s executive director, said Alberta’s economic boom has caused a housing shortage that makes it more difficult for immigrants to find a place to live and integrate into Canadian society.
