The Alberta Family Employment Tax Credit (AFETC) is a program funded by the Alberta government to help working families provide for their children. The AFETC supports families financially and encourages self-reliance and stability. Over the 2011-12 benefit year, the Alberta Family Employment Tax Credit provided about $114 million in tax relief to about 137,000 Alberta families.

The program has two objectives:+ y/ R' \6 |7 F$ V
◾to support children in low and middle income families, and ' s" p. {& [; C; P2 i
◾to provide incentive for the parents of these children to continue to work. 8 ?) K+ X3 Y, O- O4 F

Who is Eligible?
5 v- _5 V3 W5 h/ Z0 d0 c+ }! d9 L# @! b( O
If you meet the following criteria, you qualify for the AFETC:
- y( I3 Y o% e% v4 `. ^7 I◾Resident of Alberta for at least one month,
# C/ X8 u! x( f x◾Parent of one or more children under 18,
. E) C5 O+ [5 @6 D6 P0 d0 [◾More than $2,760 annual family working income, and
6 m, ^# }, Q. w" N* a( T* A◾A family net income of less than $53,725 for families with one child, $70,275 for families with two children, $80,200 for families with three children, and $83,500 for families with four or more children.
! @; r( e' A+ d; K( }" {4 l3 A& W+ bHow the Tax Credit Works ' n/ h/ k2 z, z. W" f' ]" _, E, v; j. q
2 s/ F, M% g# ]; ]8 UYou could receive up to a maximum of $1,919 for your family for the twelve month period beginning July 2013. The maximum amounts (as of July 1, 2013) are as follows:
