+ d2 a& J# H1 s% W: wExcept as otherwise permitted under this Act, a person shall
% E& {: I% d% Z; ]" b7 @3 D1 F! Qnot do any of the following:
Z7 n; G! k5 U(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor
3 z! n+ c: ?' ?- T+ @+ H* F. Rvehicle is an insured motor vehicle;9 k9 B; e: p- R4 o
(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor! G4 O5 S* m8 U6 e3 [
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
! t4 i( H% Y9 K$ Z/ x5 M(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,9 {) a6 v6 a( _% X
permit another person
# ?+ D% e8 d0 I9 z: `(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or
3 _; X P2 ~- P5 [- z(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,
7 w) `* W, {/ w0 c! _$ L: Uunless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
: |0 x9 }% L- o5 C& o0 V9 z. p2 ](d) give or lend a financial
! B7 l6 u9 Z+ U8 F* Xresponsibility card or a copy of it
$ z1 K4 t+ b) F- r. sto a person not entitled to have that financial0 m) t& q c! u5 Q9 P+ o
responsibility card or copy.6 l5 f" h) z1 S E1 }2 b0 I* V

& Z0 M# q, `& ^" Y' LIf a person drives or has a motor vehicle on a highway
; U- _' w- w/ i Lwithout the expressed or implied consent of the registered owner of
' }5 K+ p* ]* E; I1 S! Zthe vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection
6 o, f! }* g" H! @4 z& p4 K(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is1 j9 N2 B6 u& D# B; \* p# B
not an insured motor vehicle.: j+ a V$ z5 Y: g
(2)/ h6 F: ?' ^! E! [! `5 M' N
If the registration of a motor vehicle is suspended under this: u" M3 {$ {7 d# O, D4 k$ X6 K
Act, the motor vehicle is still registered for the purposes of this+ D. W- g) Y" J# Y5 d7 _1 |8 _

(3) @; ]7 K/ N; w8 f# w; c/ g
Subsection (1)(a) and (b) do not apply to a person to whom a
5 d9 Q7 I F! M+ V% ffinancial responsibility card has been issued pursuant to the; _3 @- u3 q( {3 W2 J" G
Insurance Act6 J {/ H% c! `8 p3 L
by an insurer who has issued an owner’s policy- J4 A, T, k8 n: o# @% Z7 P
outside Alberta.
' b1 S2 i! O( Z1 W. T) c4 K+ g. O(4)
( l% e! N; F3 T1 nA person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection
* t6 ~7 @$ ~6 f6 Y(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable,
+ l1 [4 y# \* H+ B9 C' Q(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $2500
; H7 S' a; B i1 o3 g) [/ z5 yand not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to
( k0 U- W0 A; c# I5 a! b1 rimprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not0 T* D/ v7 |* l
more than 6 months
" x" x, R- e4 k/ Q( S' o+ wMinimum $2500, if you don't pay, you will go to jail for a minimum of 45 days. |
