Except as otherwise permitted under this Act, a person shall3 {/ A2 S# U) E( \% r, r9 L9 k# J) J
not do any of the following:& c; S5 `' X. R* D1 T% u, L; U
(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor8 G- S% L3 D" @; x2 p7 u
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
9 ]0 }9 E1 Z' l2 q' X(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor3 h+ F" ?$ e- i: W7 p' g$ q+ j) V ]
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
5 ?, v5 }- m/ @0 }8 ~2 a(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,! A5 K. u& \* W5 Q+ \$ U% V# v
permit another person
+ J8 d8 P! h& p) b1 X2 w1 D, w(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or1 e! G' W. U- K( d9 {
(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,: f# {/ i5 R" \) F5 L
unless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
7 j) n( l0 I7 n: o- t4 y! s(d) give or lend a financial5 |0 u5 ~4 _& J7 E2 q8 `6 C2 Q
responsibility card or a copy of it

responsibility card or copy.

If a person drives or has a motor vehicle on a highway8 x, T% ~" J* R( f
without the expressed or implied consent of the registered owner of
! }0 u3 {$ K9 Zthe vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection
. K2 g9 M, f. H- ?(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is1 P) u8 w6 U k u
not an insured motor vehicle.8 O+ |3 X1 j8 ]& `: M5 _

If the registration of a motor vehicle is suspended under this+ k* Y, c s# h9 s0 c
Act, the motor vehicle is still registered for the purposes of this8 F" A: L, T' |
section.

4 l0 ?: Y+ m0 b. @+ ^. GSubsection (1)(a) and (b) do not apply to a person to whom a
6 n; z: [5 K% k1 U" Lfinancial responsibility card has been issued pursuant to the7 v8 |6 G; ~8 G
Insurance Act% m) G w4 ~5 \
by an insurer who has issued an owner’s policy
9 ^* x2 g8 n7 Eoutside Alberta.
& s- j: M; M! U(4)# _7 |5 F2 F ^4 d5 c. d4 }
A person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection
& g8 {' q0 x( m; y+ l& C(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable,
9 y* Y4 K2 c+ g& @* Z( z(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $2500
) d' E/ \/ q# T, D. h) A' sand not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to
# I% b$ G* t, himprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not
; v5 o1 R2 O" ~4 m% [ Fmore than 6 months

Minimum $2500, if you don't pay, you will go to jail for a minimum of 45 days. |
