Except as otherwise permitted under this Act, a person shall1 [5 Z7 D. y0 _# A7 c! w

(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor
, X- @( c# A1 F: D4 O) m I# ovehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
& e* i2 \# O# T2 y# R( @(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor7 W0 q7 e6 K8 p9 S: R' y
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;8 F- j/ ~$ W, C) Q1 a/ S
(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,

(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or6 H) {' b/ \ R3 o3 A
(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,

responsibility card or a copy of it

the vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection
( G" n7 G' d' v+ \(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is) |( x( l8 I" B5 R. H
not an insured motor vehicle.

If the registration of a motor vehicle is suspended under this% T9 K# W" [. B$ Y; E

* t7 u/ O1 l' c8 r, }A person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection
$ ~7 b2 {# s; w2 M(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable,1 f% \/ D, H5 Z+ @) {2 ]: U
(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $2500
+ f8 Y! c; ~+ g. F+ m- D: \; B6 rand not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to
7 t/ ]4 L. W; ?. W6 w( zimprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not; e4 {% l8 }0 c
more than 6 months
