. L* T2 M' L( c O! RExcept as otherwise permitted under this Act, a person shall* b9 E, U/ o6 G. T- P, P" M7 H: q
not do any of the following:" x9 h) j `4 ^2 w
(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor2 ^6 P: l* V( X! T5 k0 C
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;6 P( d; B7 q$ v9 p( a3 Z
(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor6 @8 h* {- v r) }0 A
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;0 a3 l0 v$ W) I( V
(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,4 V8 A% F p1 M9 h3 D/ X0 Y0 M
permit another person; u. ~. Z2 R+ Y6 n
(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or
6 e" u" C& t0 r; |3 L4 B+ C(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,
3 z0 P% a, T" ^$ b; nunless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;2 A6 w! F+ b+ a" T
(d) give or lend a financial# _0 e$ V z O" X @0 S+ {; w
responsibility card or a copy of it
- l; ]/ G- n/ a3 J" z2 [; yto a person not entitled to have that financial
. F- ^) R" T9 Q/ K- r: Mresponsibility card or copy.

; N0 P0 e/ ] I; J; [% p# g6 f0 EIf a person drives or has a motor vehicle on a highway
& i. {; d- ^5 Mwithout the expressed or implied consent of the registered owner of9 y! g" V9 q# ^0 v3 t& F2 B4 I
the vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection6 |, ~& h/ \2 ?9 D. O& Q T
(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is
- m1 }& K) S+ H; m# N% M0 _not an insured motor vehicle.

- h' _* m5 i' X& h0 DSubsection (1)(a) and (b) do not apply to a person to whom a
1 B/ \% m; h; X( f3 Cfinancial responsibility card has been issued pursuant to the
5 r: C$ c; H# ? k$ P/ \; s5 k- rInsurance Act1 x) S" \( f# y5 |$ \
by an insurer who has issued an owner’s policy) w% U, V9 F4 ]. Y- X/ _: a+ a( {+ G
outside Alberta.
. K7 o8 G3 h( K1 Y( J6 u3 D9 N(4)4 _7 C$ \, x5 `, Q& h
A person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection9 n. r1 o. @7 L3 R, |% L/ X) H3 y
(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable,% C J+ g: u( l) v6 O+ V: Q
(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $2500
: s$ M$ a" u9 eand not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to
2 j, b( @% X) R& U N, s5 @imprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not
2 x1 |+ `/ p6 C+ m! ymore than 6 months
# V+ M' d0 x7 s; c: y3 q. `7 PMinimum $2500, if you don't pay, you will go to jail for a minimum of 45 days. |
