In Alberta, you don't need a special driver's license for a 12-passenger van, but you do for a 15-passenger one. (In Alberta, the "standard" driver's license is the class 5 one: …gov.ab.ca/…Class_5_Licence ) However, it would be a good idea to double check with the car rental agency as to the requirements.
