it all depand on what you want. a diamond ring can be broken down into the following 4 categories:

if you want a very high clarity and colour, then $10K CAD may only get you a 0.5 ct diamond if you don't care as much about colour and clarity, then you can easily get a 1.0 ct or bigger ring. typically, girls care more about the clarity and size. ' z$ }1 B( Z3 g; T+ k9 [

the cutting of the diamond is also very important. a well cut 0.5 ct diamond may look as big or maybe even bigger on surface than a 1.0 ct diamond if it wasn't cut properly. & t# U7 d* H2 \, g8 W( o

the solitary princess diamond is the most popular style for an engagement ring. solitaty means a single large diamond (not a whole bunch of small diamonds or dusts but with the total weight added to a 1.0 ct) and princess means it's cut into a round shape on top (not square or oval shape)- p; `% C3 I2 C
0 `1 M* |& g; X2 ^6 y1 hthe band (ring itself) can be found in white gold 14K or 18K. typically, the better the diamond, the better band it comes with. ie <$5000 ring usually comes with a 14K band but >$5000 ring will come with a 18K band.

if i remember correctly, last year, I saw a diamond ring at costco with 0.75 ct, E (colour), VVS2 (clarity), very well cut cost around $12K CAD. comes with a canadian certifiation. |
