They are also responsible for other important tasks, including:

0 ~- \. ]$ X/ f- }/ U+ M6 L  dDiagnosing diesel engine malfunctions and making indicated repairs
% I9 B1 X% [4 @  vOperating machinery in a safe and effective manner
9 M- Y7 Y1 X# \: P! v- eProviding daily locomotive maintenance that includes changing oil or repairing, replacing, cleaning and adjusting parts
Assembling and starting engines
+ p, G" V4 q  w0 c% rDiagnosing locomotive component malfunctions
Preparing inspection, work and maintenance reports

Good eye-hand coordination
( x/ F  F( v- GFrequently lifting weights up to 50 pounds
  J  r9 M; [: g! u: u) XOccasionally lifting weights up to 100 pounds
5 N" R$ \, g$ p+ BPhysical work, sometimes outdoors in extreme weather conditions
Regular exposure to dust, pollen, fumes, noise and vibrations

Basic technical knowledge of diesel
Welding skills

8 H: u) c" q* ~$ K( SMay need current, valid drivers license, CDL, and locomotive engineer certification
Visual acuity and hearing threshold tests are required for this position. Written pre-employment tests to become a Machinist Apprentice are required for this position. Completion of 3-year apprenticeship is required to become a Journeyman Machinist. This position is subject to night, weekend and holiday work hours when needed.
