9 } b( f% Z( V& f' U0 fthat we cannot support imposing a UBB business model on wholesale Internet
5 F& k0 p; y! bservice providers.

Our government recognizes that the Internet and digital technologies are
0 B, @* k2 C* A }an increasingly important part of everyday life—including driving, `5 e* J: d0 o
innovation, commerce and social interaction. As the government develops0 B$ y W- M( n; g
Canada’s first comprehensive Digital Economy Strategy, we need to look
3 T5 J* h+ {# @4 G1 e' Q- xcarefully at how issues like UBB affect the big picture. We will be- _4 g' Z5 ]% e& o! I: ]
guided by our long-standing policies of encouraging competition and' q1 Y6 X# C; m; Q6 ]% z$ M9 i
investment, increasing consumer choice, minimizing regulation and allowing
! [1 G; s$ i7 {& ]9 w8 imarket forces to prevail.
0 J2 B6 r3 `3 \2 u. t3 F9 }) G! z) X1 P# H* U2 f* D
The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) has: q1 s8 R }; H8 n$ k( H6 ~
chosen to examine these concerns that the government shares with a large8 z! u* O( `# B" Q- m" y l/ q
number of Canadians. Details of the CRTC consultation are available at$ C- B; ` Q( _- Q

Z. b' |1 P6 C- z4 a" I* \# gWhen the CRTC reaches a final decision following its consultations, the

line with the best interests of Canadian consumers and encourages
! l/ I( m" X' Y, ~9 Z( B3 ?0 Wcompetition among internet service providers. I will be recommending that
