that we cannot support imposing a UBB business model on wholesale Internet

Our government recognizes that the Internet and digital technologies are
$ U& E" N1 h! xan increasingly important part of everyday life—including driving
# k5 p0 ?- Z9 L/ E+ Z9 O) |, C- Finnovation, commerce and social interaction. As the government develops# i( T) Q8 \, p% S; Q4 `/ \; Z' b
Canada’s first comprehensive Digital Economy Strategy, we need to look
1 H* ^( [$ u. [% Ycarefully at how issues like UBB affect the big picture. We will be
( b* s( Y# A' s1 d |guided by our long-standing policies of encouraging competition and
5 I z! \" f5 {investment, increasing consumer choice, minimizing regulation and allowing
* c( s1 j T$ n) N% }$ Wmarket forces to prevail. * T% E2 z+ t7 A+ p, A) W$ H
% d1 S6 C7 T$ c' E6 O2 QThe Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) has. i# D' M' |3 k
chosen to examine these concerns that the government shares with a large% m( Q6 s! j0 S# O
number of Canadians. Details of the CRTC consultation are available at, _; F% t7 i+ L. v: o* z( X

government will carefully assess the CRTC position to ensure that it is in
% b0 v( t, L0 K+ bline with the best interests of Canadian consumers and encourages
# o4 {8 D$ r+ R! ycompetition among internet service providers. I will be recommending that/ n5 z! y% b. a* N
any decision counter to these foundational principles be reversed.3 o& |; [# ^. @! _* Y0 f
