Roles and Functions2 \) X" k# J3 A
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
# ]: p4 Z4 S7 m% z/ {organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
7 K! ]- n: H* d, M. |operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has$ l! h0 @$ o/ k
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
B- y! Y$ @9 hoperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
" S" J. \8 U% @( ^) Uboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is; Z2 q2 L& M+ s5 \' i3 q. V
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an9 i. \* V+ F! u9 n
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires% ~. e9 Y2 E7 }
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
' s2 C: h0 V( E' g( Sall board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:7 b% ?# Z/ J6 h& J# W5 J- q
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the$ a% z/ P4 m9 [7 m/ b* D
officers of the Coalition8 p" I2 b: q1 I: `$ ^- i( v
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
, b3 J" }. R+ `( ]organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
8 A; H ?+ P8 r/ _and public institutions2 n; A. j( V1 K2 J
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
: x* v# i D% m; t! ?funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives/ ?+ G0 U& G% B
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
7 E& o; f+ [7 i* P% I, |3 d. a0 ]organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community

! }6 [, d1 S- L4 P; F1 b6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic4 f! a1 O5 ~* d7 `
participation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society

with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically

Administrative responsibilities:
* {5 l Z4 S* U, I1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its& Z) T- R. ?5 d
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
6 y- c1 w9 Q3 A7 Q6 T8 G/ u% Y Gdirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
' f' ?3 D( R% C# h4 jmembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.' N+ f* K% x2 `' ^8 t
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the
: e! j( T) N6 ^( \: n& kMulticultural Coalition
: n. ]) E! T/ G/ nRelationship of the Coordinator to the Board/ O/ h1 p! z' ^5 y/ F: D. L
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
3 [5 B1 }! w0 S: \% U3 v' F* Simplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating- _& L# d: I( ^9 Z% d* q
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
4 Y3 B7 `" ^. q% y9 ~The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
/ _+ n3 e1 T9 `, S' U9 Naims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should5 v+ \- H6 l' M1 c: H9 ^
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership0 `% |* ~) e2 W* h. H
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
4 f1 g' ~ Z% v+ S2 mfacilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of: ~ L% X2 E; _& Q' _1 A9 L8 ^
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial4 a& t) T2 u3 s; [
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
" L$ d7 H5 B9 ^) g7 f1 i9 xmatters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of( V3 o8 q0 D" L; ] Z7 o) o
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of8 z+ s$ g8 ^9 d. U: g" L
policies already adopted

Pay Range & Terms

Salary: Negotiable; commensurate with experience
