The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition
) o5 h) }2 E0 `: a) R2 ?7 `2 gRoles and Functions
" v; G; p! H0 xThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
" | t; Q) }8 ^0 G. {/ N/ Q, xorganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the2 q% d- O9 ~" p8 ?. F9 |
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
# n) x: \, C% |. n4 athe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
0 n2 h2 j, ?$ t, y% H1 Moperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
/ B* M2 [& g3 M; Kboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is" v* d' ]5 ~. Q/ v
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an- K4 H8 C$ {; v% l0 T
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
( b8 K! ~. s1 C6 t+ y/ Wstaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
) M% Z# S, @; d) U9 a6 z. ~. jall board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:7 w; s4 d! T8 \+ m* b' g1 \* V
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
7 g/ P# G! n2 w ~' c9 ]officers of the Coalition
% _4 y1 w _( ?2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural& b+ Q) Q4 E9 X4 ]/ j" `( l3 Q5 L
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations ?' k* G7 ?; @" L* A
and public institutions+ C) u' o- f F6 d
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
7 w' X- k6 X) z- K7 j( x6 M9 E# @funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
. t; z) I! S/ M3 |4 T4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community8 z" Q$ D1 k6 ?
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with1 u# S& n( m" I+ ~

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic$ H1 |; c2 ^7 M% {0 b+ ~4 ?' F

7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working
% P9 B' }" x; s9 ?with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically G9 G4 B- B7 q( L! |
diverse backgrounds

Administrative responsibilities:1 z1 W, T0 V5 N7 T0 ^( ]
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
7 O3 M( ^. C# g' Tregular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
, f# p0 S/ H' x1 ~4 B: C! Hdirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
- l2 a: g+ X4 S: W" xmembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.: E2 o: F/ u: R: |0 `& h% h
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the
9 P$ F. @8 h+ P! |) c ~# |Multicultural Coalition- T ]& m2 O$ O% q2 `; h; t
Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board
8 o3 y0 |% f" d7 P" z3 ]/ S9 d9 f LAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to6 S$ k# [! r0 L0 ^) @3 ?9 i% r) X
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating8 Z! N, t$ D( u! T$ @' B+ w
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
2 e) ^) P1 W- p* t" \% x4 p1 eThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and5 i; ^' F2 n2 L' |7 C( w2 u K
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
# d, \: {, K3 |7 `/ ?& F4 ^be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership! s; m4 h# R1 e1 s7 S5 p
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and9 X: i' X, j% V3 K# f
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
- d* }* _( o0 ~, \8 m u9 Z4 v Bdirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
- R7 B+ J4 c& Q, w& b1 istatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all9 r" G& u' \' m& {) A
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of7 ]' H r) n) g
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of6 N# ?+ v3 R- }4 ~7 L
policies already adopted; L1 n5 Q H% N5 ^+ ]

4. Experience in administrative work with a proven ability to multi-task and

5. Facilitation skills and ability to design, develop and deliver workshops an1 G3 Y% c6 W' Y

8. A diploma or degree in Social Work, the Social Sciences, Public Health, or

9. A minimum of 2 years experience in project management at the

10. Excellent computer skills using Microsoft Office (World, Excel and Power7 o+ N8 f. ]4 k8 Z

Pay Range & Terms
