Youth Worker

Key Responsibilities & Duties:

 Facilitate delivery of safe and supportive drop-in programming, while supervising youth.; U r! E0 h! J4 q9 z+ K
 Coordinate food and recreational programs on and off-site.8 P! t) h6 l$ C* D! v
 Provide positive role-modeling and maintaining a healthy atmosphere for the youth.- [* [+ @( ]7 v i/ v
 Completing required paperwork.! J `. i b n$ _( L5 Z; {+ l! T
 Attending scheduled staff meetings and workshops.$ A# T/ x2 O, K6 J$ }# c
 Following and implementing all program policies and procedures.

 Representing the Teen Centre in a professional manner.1 X- j8 l2 W1 `
 Maintaining professional boundaries between clients and staff.# h0 m$ O) p+ C+ H) f
 Provide additional support to the program as needed under the direction of the Program Manager.9 y' O- @' u' F, Z

Qualifications:0 n/ a3 i2 C4 [1 r/ i. [
5 c1 o" a) \3 G. M5 S
 Some post-secondary education needed OR a minimum 6 months related experience.' L2 ~5 N9 W, V" u& E9 W/ }
 Strong interpersonal, communications, teamwork, leadership and organizational skills.
( P5 w; F; S6 s6 q5 x! R( u" V4 B' g Non-judgemental and empathetic attitude towards high-risk youth.- C0 S/ F; a& F: K2 _5 Z
 Broad knowledge base on issues affecting high risk youth: addictions, abuse, Aboriginal and other cultures, poverty, sexuality, etc.6 E$ j! h. \) g# [
 Knowledge of community resources.
) d2 T1 s5 }* B& C. f7 n Criminal Record Clearance and Child Welfare Information System Clearance.
e7 g# ^% m+ x& F p Standard First Aid and Suicide Intervention Training.

This is a part-time position; 15hrs/week; evening and weekend shifts; at an hourly rate of $12.50; starting February 8 2006. ( M \) ]; f& R/ n, g2 A. A( g
There is a 3-month probationary period.
