this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA
; J/ P3 e* k) D- ~! ]& uEdmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and ! Y  G! q) T+ v  b8 w1 n
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA

Responsibilities

8 H+ U! g2 s+ p- |" o7 W, rReporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and ! o+ r' N" q" p
execution of the YWCA Strategy 0 Q9 m  E0 U9 e2 [
% V+ [  I- |" T, a
Specific responsibilities include:  ; l* W+ o0 W4 i+ L# E+ I* i
1 i4 h8 b! [! j
•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of
, I' D" e& ?5 n6 [& W9 _+ vthe YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by   q: i# N9 ~5 N4 }: b. j  V
the Board of Directors;  0 L% r  b- L4 n  i8 T- }: L! ]
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations
6 w4 o. T& ?% uincluding financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to 2 t5 g4 ^& v5 W; a- W
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities; ; M+ |) ^$ D- r: g) r! g9 B$ G# W
•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and # q$ z; X2 u' l4 j& p
objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
& p9 q. x8 F( a% k* S, d  @% Wthe board;  
2 K! ?# W% C) e: A•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  
6 ^( @, L  F  W+ X/ g* y•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
) ]7 h2 u5 \# Q/ x. |1 }the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; 7 y2 u# f$ [8 Y. m& n( q  t
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
/ v0 H" T# J. Z2 V' s; rchanging needs of the organization and community; 1 [$ U5 b8 i7 T2 q
•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue 5 U& V7 x9 X! F* M' ]7 x
commitments; ; X0 p9 P: J7 B0 _6 S+ H- N2 f
•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  ) v& C% I8 I. p" K+ y! @+ U1 N& B
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective
9 n4 M0 q' a, B- `4 j; B; Gselection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
1 J) R: i+ V  g$ ]. G; E•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed; 9 q5 B% E  b) E  V2 c; E
•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
# g: F& i  |: Y9 weffectively and positively represent the association;
* b" D5 N+ l# ^8 [: I% v! V/ s$ \
9 c0 k; H& ~; l; r7 ~. w•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring
2 B2 A/ [; o" l; e  Z/ hthe implementation of systems to manage these risks;  7 V* E* I8 b: q
•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
' P% E- b- `( p. A( A+ B5 M2 @performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED
7 K7 S4 J; D1 y6 J  _; ?- vthe forthcoming year;  
4 i. a, c! ~, j" f•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical
8 w; e9 l! m+ b" O* n9 S' C" \practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of
* @" ^9 t$ ]0 z( D9 SYWCA Canada; and 4 S! U4 ?! u9 D, s: [/ t: T3 `
•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task
8 E& S( S- `# ]Forces.  ) I, _5 \6 ^+ C4 m- V/ R
  
7 \% ^5 u& @( v, X) t) oRequired Skills & Abilities / L8 K. d% c! c7 w5 H6 [1 q$ y
•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations; 9 M: u, x5 V1 j& ^
•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus
; M' L: n/ ]8 raround decisions, plans and actions; 3 `& o! x" R9 C& ^+ U# O
•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
2 d- u0 {% K: b+ `5 s•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable 1 n+ q& s/ \# f* l
and achievable with realistic timeframes; 9 @) |' y$ D+ \+ j4 Q
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks # ?! m! B3 `8 S0 x
simultaneously;
' ?) f3 @+ b1 R' g•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build
  c6 K6 k: r% P! U9 P. Trapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings;
* z6 I% c1 E; N•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and
0 p+ N" }1 F4 z! W/ w•  Superior negotiation skills.

) y1 c: v$ y9 A: B6 B, P( T/ U" |•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.

Required Experience 5 r! Y  G3 ]3 p( g
•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; + n/ d  Y/ l/ ~0 S$ c* |3 C
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation
5 S" q4 L; m6 m8 L1 b7 b+ rabilities; " b. @( n' d- @9 [
•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, 6 b7 {8 E9 Y0 @+ u9 z, q( V; a9 F
Networking and Fundraising;
5 v- Y# i/ H, Y, h. c4 \4 G. ]. q•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting
" v7 l8 Y8 Y3 b! h$ S6 Xand financial statements; and / n3 j8 N6 w/ W0 ^# n: C( {, E
•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
# c  x  h+ J& |$ b$ ^% T5 fcentered perspective. ! w- Y8 e: x2 C, V, r# v/ Q
