The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic 5 k+ u5 W$ P: X2 E* ?
thinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead
. @) W$ k+ R' d$ F* i% othis multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA
7 Q  E8 e: D1 P. X  aEdmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and 7 G5 ~# i% A( Z. i$ f
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA # G, E4 C0 A1 t. O
Edmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the 4 ~/ I& E( y0 \3 A/ y( T
community the agency serves.

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and % a2 ?( N) `8 m3 [5 G! z
execution of the YWCA Strategy 5 ?0 E. ~  c4 K, y; ?4 U1 V: n. [
0 w6 C# ^# ^1 p+ }' r. A
Specific responsibilities include:  
) w! n9 L; m/ M, C$ H ) u2 E/ q9 M+ q# j0 @9 {
•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of " X6 x0 `7 L' E# K# ]
the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by 7 F, X( D% h# F' x* e0 S: r
the Board of Directors;  
$ Q- E8 ^4 A) J0 a  e, {•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations 5 e0 w9 M- b2 k) d( {4 b) y
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to
* U- x7 X( w0 f, A+ M' j8 O8 m3 zenable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;   V: [" _% d1 {
•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and ) s1 {9 s+ i- W6 r. p7 ?6 j$ Q
objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by : Z% |$ r! R* y# e( C
the board;  
- o9 b# ]6 S2 a- p. ^•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  
5 `3 N0 ]1 F$ ~( e•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion ! B1 Y$ s3 N0 ~
the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; / `3 {1 H; |" h4 `" g" I1 F
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
( N  P# ^# O/ S+ u# u  c8 U$ o* }changing needs of the organization and community; # P6 j% v8 @9 c/ u# ]. v* ]% {+ N
•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue % N, Y, h( R$ O6 n, d1 r. v
commitments; 1 ?) V* b  \9 k! @* v0 \5 d' P7 P
•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  
+ z" o3 V! _- |5 B# Y: {( _•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective ( V! T9 B/ N- h/ j. l8 o7 u  q$ }
selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
3 S+ U& {2 z- F; F: m; h9 M•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed; . Y, _* v; A8 f
•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
1 s. o* V, S( C, W  C  Yeffectively and positively represent the association;
6 x) f* G/ K, b% H: j% ]" K0 ^( A. |- Y( D: w0 S! L& n) F  c
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring
$ Q& @# n" x2 ^8 sthe implementation of systems to manage these risks;  
/ E* s+ l. T5 I  C4 O, X) [1 V, z•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal 6 w6 ]( x1 z; K3 P% a% G5 o
performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED
  s( h+ C0 P. [the forthcoming year;  
& b2 ^) E$ @+ R! y- n( E, k* d) K•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical 2 J9 v+ A# z6 h: B
practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of
& r6 G7 O! |1 }3 F/ zYWCA Canada; and
8 y8 |9 |$ `9 ?# ^, c•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task
: l! v' f+ E, P& D6 m* r: {9 FForces.  * d) C' P! u( P6 X' J" _
  + Q7 E: P% B+ s5 T$ U1 ~* H
Required Skills & Abilities " c+ i/ p8 [5 Q3 L- S! y
•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations; : R7 O  F  N+ ^8 S; B& g
•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus ; h! L4 c6 `' g! Z
around decisions, plans and actions;
0 z7 [% Q- }- z, q, p( w2 K•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
  [* M$ e2 `  N* P& @1 Y% x; p9 b•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable ' [! Z% m! ]7 t. g& o
and achievable with realistic timeframes; * C1 F* y5 j% g# d* S' i8 A
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks 5 L! O4 i7 [0 ~$ \5 {; W
simultaneously; 4 v* |' h% e8 \) ^" Y
•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build
8 u2 V. x# q5 a, V- G+ u& ]  Rrapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings; 1 w1 Y4 e/ o% X7 y
•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and
& }# X9 _+ x( |- p( O, N# f* c•  Superior negotiation skills.

0 N6 B% c, U* ~; d+ I2 j Required Professional Designation / Certification 9 e) h% W4 i/ b# O9 v
•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience. : [# L  v  X  Q0 ]* W) [  S

. Y/ K5 _5 z: x) xRequired Experience $ O9 q- x7 I+ ^; g1 Z/ ~1 S
•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations;
5 H7 K* l/ [  P7 Z8 V•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation
+ g* W' C3 E6 Z! p2 H+ M6 g% oabilities; " U  N$ y4 H: s3 V- @# P
•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, + C7 {- y& A- ^- p; i7 V9 |
Networking and Fundraising;
6 Y$ _  w1 `' T6 I+ Q•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting   d! @* M' D- T2 z
and financial statements; and
; K; e; S3 G! }" T; u•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
