Dear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the
) Z2 ^8 E" i1 S! u) hMaster Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule
) G2 `- |) Z1 p. u) D) M(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about% H$ S2 I0 H0 T, G
environmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste
5 j& J% R# k$ f3 ~/ d+ kmanagement; home composting; household hazardous waste;6 v1 z1 \9 s7 ?
vermin-composting and residential recycling.
8 v1 t+ a5 s0 `5 u% V
9 b/ U5 Y: j" i$ a8 n8 OThis course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips, s, m7 f$ g* L: U+ _, f: B; o$ B
to various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates
& I% A9 F+ G6 n6 ~7 p8 k6 wcomplete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:' n2 F$ M" t3 |- ~
reduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important( {' k/ p) W* q" Q& E) \
resources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the5 [* c- O! x0 E' X& @9 ~, ?. i5 u
importance of composting and recycling.

k- L* K; M/ tExamples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the, a, d6 B: b! ~5 ]
Reuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;
2 u- w! Z6 s+ p" V( j7 apublic education display booths; assisting with programs and
% M* t I. {, d6 P6 V! M$ emaintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at& w% w5 Q; W7 @: U0 f+ Y
various demonstration gardens and general public and school
) c0 c$ \" Z9 Z9 opresentations.

# e, l# T$ j) A$ sThere are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and
