Master Composter/Recycler Program / Free!

Dear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the
$ @8 R; L6 \0 g& EMaster Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule
, b( E+ b, V0 H: x1 m2 G$ p(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about% g1 R4 K3 F3 t; ]" s. `2 T- \5 [
environmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste, x, g7 A" i' e
management; home composting; household hazardous waste;
. B8 ?7 y" b* K! Y6 M! uvermin-composting and residential recycling.1 P0 z: a6 V4 R' g+ s$ u/ ~/ `

This course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips
' F9 ?2 g4 }2 X7 r9 Wto various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates3 V' @+ y/ {/ p0 ~6 t- d3 U
complete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:6 l" \; F) z5 K0 Z# O( a; g1 N
reduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important% d: w2 k$ o! H: l
resources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the
4 A. A+ B, y3 C& F; ~, simportance of composting and recycling.
; J$ [; u7 Z/ O
9 U+ q6 u5 h9 F0 jExamples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the
8 W) X8 i) B/ Z; \0 ?9 T( PReuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;( L+ ?' W9 F$ R0 S$ h
public education display booths; assisting with programs and
$ J4 X& }0 U' o/ p g$ ~. }& Y6 qmaintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at0 ]2 v* o3 p. l& f. h4 Z3 }1 _1 h) ]
various demonstration gardens and general public and school
# i0 L5 O( d: r; @4 O) Vpresentations." n$ R3 N, w4 D9 a8 w4 O8 i

There are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and

knowledge with others, then apply to become a Master
