Master Composter/Recycler Program / Free!

Dear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the
2 U) t. i9 `6 J1 @% C9 n2 \+ N( uMaster Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule/ [6 v, v; \. r$ ` j$ T7 T; m% A S6 U
(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about
. }1 x& x! R4 I4 ^6 l& X, cenvironmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste8 J, O0 y S" |* k
management; home composting; household hazardous waste;. P2 O$ n9 R; f7 R3 I# n
vermin-composting and residential recycling.
. \ C- c9 C* J% }' B& X( L$ u1 R3 l& B3 o; }$ H+ U: r9 d
This course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips$ @* K9 ?6 J8 T8 G/ v) T: t
to various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates1 }' G a8 L9 k
complete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:
6 V8 y0 h7 B/ h6 X3 ereduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important* N& L3 j: c/ O" u
resources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the
{4 A. {3 F6 y7 t. Z7 ?' ximportance of composting and recycling.9 I" T% R; f8 \' A/ L
1 [' S0 r( n- `1 J6 FExamples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the
# i4 m5 b4 n* k# @Reuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;
- ]$ C) i" Z& g! h" |; b: l! K/ ]public education display booths; assisting with programs and( d# A# o+ b) W' l
maintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at
; P0 M. [) M* `( B ivarious demonstration gardens and general public and school
/ A: s. c% D k# F, r' J t& apresentations.

# k/ w9 E- F: I; _There are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and
% g+ D2 v! v, Z2 b h5 u) g$ t. Nvolunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the
" W \( [6 G9 O C$ pmost. Curious about recycling and composting and sharing your' O8 h; j0 f2 v, \
knowledge with others, then apply to become a Master* Z( v$ ?+ e3 L& u! L( q2 @; B* r
