Master Composter/Recycler Program / Free!

w; E( M3 x5 l8 I3 g4 RDear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the ` V4 ^# A1 a
Master Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule
- z O( ^0 n( v3 X(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about
' ?8 Q9 e" I3 J* u# U4 wenvironmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste" j$ s" {. N8 j2 ~$ O
management; home composting; household hazardous waste;
: U4 ^- z# i1 O3 q7 Evermin-composting and residential recycling.
/ d* h) q7 m( h0 C. A0 r* K
: J, H* z6 ^" t" r X A4 JThis course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips$ L" g; x$ L; W6 {' f
to various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates4 o9 g$ _9 I! m
complete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:! m M) Y2 M3 X" U" m& Q5 N
reduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important
: {) \' e6 h Mresources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the
+ f) ]5 _+ s4 q8 bimportance of composting and recycling.3 X5 y9 l5 X7 i: g7 v: E) H
% D, l/ n4 k4 G& b! I9 n( {Examples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the
) d7 Q0 }" Y+ |1 }: e% h* VReuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;0 d) u+ G) J$ _" G
public education display booths; assisting with programs and
+ D# }" R1 F, c$ B2 w7 ~maintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at" o. ~6 F r! a3 a! s4 p: Q- s
various demonstration gardens and general public and school

There are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and
5 G$ x. ^% G7 p4 q! M# `0 kvolunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the8 {. H4 F+ i8 |2 M9 G) y
