Master Composter/Recycler Program / Free!. k. H) @! F; S% w c
City of Edmonton, Waste Management Branch+ S9 _5 j+ A' T3 s

Dear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the
7 \4 Z S- C& P6 B5 F# f, x2 KMaster Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule9 V7 ^' m, D6 n" T# A! l# S
(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about) s1 X, t$ `$ @/ o! ?
environmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste
+ A% ~% ~% y5 S* }( m$ S2 o5 A; tmanagement; home composting; household hazardous waste;
$ _8 y- {0 N9 q3 X) O( I4 Q6 |vermin-composting and residential recycling.
' S0 @ G. g' g4 z2 A. w& h d
' g. t5 I# p5 e2 k) f( I) i0 hThis course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips$ ^7 @. f* T' e/ J2 D$ J
to various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates
0 j# n/ `0 \. m5 \/ {5 B. o% Acomplete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:+ v$ x4 H2 o. O. z" N
reduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important
9 H( A( K- T! z' kresources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the" Q" j2 z& S9 I$ `/ k+ O
importance of composting and recycling.' V1 J0 V$ \7 x: I' p5 B( `5 {" ~) t" l
; U a; m& z) G9 q- A
Examples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the
+ s& U$ w* r# U+ \3 LReuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;+ c- |: g( h, l( G7 ~0 S
public education display booths; assisting with programs and/ s% R( G/ U2 u$ A# M0 {% z
maintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at
" a8 U( C( f7 D* }: @/ Ivarious demonstration gardens and general public and school
2 C; L4 Y5 E! Z4 u/ p# Mpresentations.' n! k' R# |0 g5 G: V/ Y, L/ o
; g7 E- H& p' Z4 \$ s+ i
There are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and% z/ C8 |7 ~1 ^8 r- Y: \& ]: P: ^
volunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the
' G6 r# P- D* O( Lmost. Curious about recycling and composting and sharing your5 I1 D$ e$ `; v$ B M$ z% h1 i
knowledge with others, then apply to become a Master7 o/ r+ ]" a& `1 d ?! ]

-Saturdays all day - for three consecutive weeks.
