Master Composter/Recycler Program / Free!# |. f7 E3 B6 {" o
City of Edmonton, Waste Management Branch

' S2 O3 e% X* O% u8 e4 {3 x# fDear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the
1 V" e$ [4 h4 ~9 f. U5 n) CMaster Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule6 d" v! b/ w' g
(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about
7 z/ M, W" [, D8 y% O# F3 T0 f" ^6 e3 uenvironmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste
& _% j$ ^% l( mmanagement; home composting; household hazardous waste;% @& a" I$ G# g+ O4 `( {
vermin-composting and residential recycling.- @) \$ W1 E5 a+ @1 }" P
' K+ A7 S* s3 L9 m5 I; k
This course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips
9 _3 ]- C+ v/ m4 P/ |; B/ _to various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates) |1 M3 |* P3 K5 C2 ?& q8 @- J2 D6 e
complete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:3 X, N6 r( o: u7 i! R; _4 G: m" h
reduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important
& M6 c1 z" g& ^' K' R3 oresources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the
, d, u3 w0 o8 g8 G$ |' U. L: K. @importance of composting and recycling.

Examples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the
, T \, C; m0 O3 FReuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;
' _ V: T. a0 _+ _: rpublic education display booths; assisting with programs and
4 }' o: s8 ^5 N! ^4 _% Amaintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at
" f; a! G. F# K# gvarious demonstration gardens and general public and school$ K- a l: b: N0 |0 F2 D4 \
presentations./ ~8 M% t1 T+ N, S% [& V$ } `9 i

There are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and
4 L6 V n" h Q* E8 @2 uvolunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the
9 S$ U/ X" L2 G( E& t& zmost. Curious about recycling and composting and sharing your3 H2 U- z ~8 j; y( m; p
knowledge with others, then apply to become a Master
