3 X; w* r, W4 L: ZThere are no changes in the way Albertans register for publicly-funded health care. However, as announced in the 2008 budget, health premiums have been eliminated as of January 1, 2009. - s# b( Z% l3 K" l, n- L9 R

Payment and collection of health care premiums owed prior to January 1, 2009 will continue under these guidelines:

1. All Albertans are responsible to pay premiums unless they qualify for premium assistance, government-sponsored income support programs, or are senior citizens.
) f9 s, [/ H! M( m 2. Employers and benefit administrators who register and pay premiums on behalf of their employees will continue to do so.
" w) C9 M4 r$ z8 _ 3. Alberta Health and Wellness will continue to pursue collections from those who fail to pay premiums.% o& F9 h! }$ T6 Y/ Z' O/ n$ ?
4. Contributors to Alberta Blue Cross or other supplementary insurance plans that provide prescription drug, dental, and other extended coverage, will still pay those premiums, as they have not been eliminated.# W& U; v4 c- T( I' x6 `5 ?
5. New Albertans must register for the Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan within three months of their arrival. |
