ABC Head Start is now accepting applications for the 2008-2009 school year. ABC Head Start is a free pre-school and family support program for families of limited income. Our programs are located in 12 locations across the city of Edmonton, including a francophone program. Children’s services include four half-days a week of early childhood education. Free bussing to and from class is provided as well as a daily nutritional snack. The program follows the school year, running from September to June.

Each class of 16 children has a teacher, two teaching assistants, a part-time speech-language pathologist, and a social worker plus community volunteers. Special services (occupational therapy, community health nurses, cognitive and mental health assessments) are included as needed. Please note the above LICO figures are the Low Income Cut-offs from 2006 and Low Income Measures for 2005 with an added 4.1 % December 2007 Consumer Price Index adjustment. % v7 x# K) h* C( X

Children accepted into the program include those diagnosed or suspected of mild to moderate delays in the following areas; fine motor, speech and language, behaviour, and learning. Also accepted are children with diagnosed or suspected severe speech and/or language delays and those children from the community who would benefit from a pre-school program.
