In the first incident, a 30-year-old man is dead in what police are calling a "gang motivated" shooting near Whitemud Drive, the Edmonton Police Service said in a press release.; H6 r* ~4 ]" m7 v2 s& `* H1 P
& L- }) o5 @; I. H! h# WAt approximately 2:20 a.m. MT, the EPS responded to a call of shots fired at a silver Infiniti near a Whitemud Drive overpass at 170th Street.6 Q6 C5 Z8 n: p

One male passenger fled from the vehicle before police arrived, and reports indicate a small white car was seen fleeing the scene after the shots were fired., `2 o' u+ r! Z# P8 J

The circumstances leading up to the shooting are still under investigation, but police believe the incident is not random and is likely gang-related.

% W8 X/ Y4 K: n0 yMeanwhile, one male is dead and another is in police custody after an altercation between two groups in an alley early Sunday morning, according to an EPS press release.

# ]1 k3 k3 b D/ p& GAt approximately 2:45 a.m. MT, officers spotted a vehicle being driven the wrong way on Gateway Boulevard near Whyte Avenue.! |" g- x* J& U8 i- V/ s

Upon stopping the car, the officers learned that one of the passengers, a 24-year-old male, was seriously injured.

He was taken to hospital, where he died of his injuries.

The three suspects were located by police immediately following the vehicle stop. A 32-year-old male is in custody and charges are pending.( g0 T; H# Q, M B) R3 t
