In the first incident, a 30-year-old man is dead in what police are calling a "gang motivated" shooting near Whitemud Drive, the Edmonton Police Service said in a press release.

The driver of the car was found dead at the scene.

No suspects have been identified and no one is in custody.

1 man dead in stabbing
! l- w o* S: B2 Q$ V) V& f4 mMeanwhile, one male is dead and another is in police custody after an altercation between two groups in an alley early Sunday morning, according to an EPS press release.

" U% C$ ~1 f. a! L$ |/ hAt approximately 2:45 a.m. MT, officers spotted a vehicle being driven the wrong way on Gateway Boulevard near Whyte Avenue.

' s: z3 P, n. q; o% k [) f. vUpon stopping the car, the officers learned that one of the passengers, a 24-year-old male, was seriously injured.

He was taken to hospital, where he died of his injuries.

: e4 @6 z( |' ^ A* k% ]6 P% H8 _A police investigation revealed that the three male occupants of the vehicle had been involved in a physical altercation with two other males and a female near an alley south of Whyte Avenue, between Gateway Boulevard and Calgary Trail, which resulted in one male being stabbed.

% p! O* b) H5 u7 U XThe three suspects were located by police immediately following the vehicle stop. A 32-year-old male is in custody and charges are pending.
