Duties

    * Develops, implements, monitors, and evaluates programs and services to address the unique educational and social needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans-identified,two-spirited and queer (LGBTTQ) youth in the Edmonton region1 N1 A! |6 p8 \8 U+ Y1 M  p
    * Develops and delivers community-based programming and provides support services for Youth Understanding Youth, Edmonton's sexual minority community youth group& J% d, m: }& f  ^
    * Trains,motivates and supports volunteer adult facilitators  h/ y' V8 L9 d( Q4 O! R5 b
    * Acts as a resource on LGBTTQ youth issues for Institute staff, community, and governmental organizations
6 Y! m! f+ @& g) E2 y    * Provides interim quarterly reports and an overall annual productivity report and evaluation to the Assistant Director3 d! ?( p  @/ ]9 Y2 s- Z* I& `
    * Liaises with the Assistant Director in budget planning and management; monitors project related expenses
- }4 o; r) ^7 I+ Y- x) B9 x    * Advocates to meet the health, social and safety needs of LGBTTQ and questioning youth! t/ [2 k" A: W7 k
    * Researches and develops a LGBTTQ youth mentoring program4 A. k/ J; E4 L5 |, ?5 G
    * Develops, implements and monitors a LGBTTQ youth risk and needs assessment
' g" b; E; S8 n8 o2 v3 g5 w9 l( r7 K    * Develops benchmarks to assist in the evaluation of YUY programming and outreach supports
( W8 i2 @" K7 `; W& M; w    * Develops promotional materials such as posters, brochures, and displays to promote the youth group and mentoring programs
3 E7 m9 H* c" ]; [, m  i4 r+ M    * Participates in the development of leadership training and educational programming at Camp fYrefly
; ]0 F7 a+ A# x* m7 v! E2 K# L    * Supports University of Alberta campus organizations for sexual minority students and gay-straight student alliances in local high schools and communities: W4 Y  R+ w" N% X7 {! Z
    * Develops a communications and advertising strategy targeting community agencies, youth groups/programs, and schools# J2 m1 v+ m! z. ~+ [: e7 }8 D

$ K% [* Z6 c8 d: u' a2 k9 G2 `    * Bachelor's degree in education, social work, psychology, or a related professional discipline1 N* \* x2 |; L9 m2 ~
    * Three to five years experience in community development with a particular emphasis on sexual minority youth: D- [5 z, r5 d5 Q, v
    * Knowledge in adolescent development, health and sex education, violence prevention,suicide intervention, alcohol and substance abuse, HIV and STI prevention and harm reduction strategies
1 J. P# P# U5 p" U6 A" ~8 C8 q    * Experience in developing and providing youth-oriented programs: m2 Y! q* X% K( O
    * Demonstrated effectiveness in working with the LGBTTQ community
7 N$ ?' A8 i, D: g4 m2 Q1 }    * Fundraising skills an asset/ n) A8 K: m7 s7 P1 \7 k' p# K
    * Demonstrated experience in development of youth group programming, community outreach,volunteer management and training and conflict resolution skills3 M2 U. r# p) x8 j
    * Outstanding group facilitation, training, and counselling skills
) \2 @, Y: r$ D$ G    * Proven leadership, and strong team, and relationship building skills
" o* x' I7 u! K/ n9 x! a    * Excellent communication (oral, written, and web-based), organizational and interpersonal skills
& ]/ P" T% h' ]2 d    * Understanding of other languages and experiences working within Aboriginal and ethnocultural communities an asset: f* }1 [" b& ?, [" h( j. d8 O7 s5 w
