Duties
  E" H9 ?' {0 H1 p) P$ \0 r! G
    * Develops, implements, monitors, and evaluates programs and services to address the unique educational and social needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans-identified,two-spirited and queer (LGBTTQ) youth in the Edmonton region
    * Develops and delivers community-based programming and provides support services for Youth Understanding Youth, Edmonton's sexual minority community youth group
    * Trains,motivates and supports volunteer adult facilitators
    * Acts as a resource on LGBTTQ youth issues for Institute staff, community, and governmental organizations
    * Provides interim quarterly reports and an overall annual productivity report and evaluation to the Assistant Director
% [# E. s+ b( Y5 J- G( [2 _- K    * Liaises with the Assistant Director in budget planning and management; monitors project related expenses
4 n4 [" I& t9 z1 x2 E" P    * Advocates to meet the health, social and safety needs of LGBTTQ and questioning youth
    * Researches and develops a LGBTTQ youth mentoring program
+ F. h% W  U+ i! ~  I    * Develops, implements and monitors a LGBTTQ youth risk and needs assessment
    * Develops benchmarks to assist in the evaluation of YUY programming and outreach supports
    * Develops promotional materials such as posters, brochures, and displays to promote the youth group and mentoring programs
/ s- Q# ?% s$ Q; ^; ^+ z    * Participates in the development of leadership training and educational programming at Camp fYrefly
) [; n3 R& Q$ w) D% j/ E& d    * Supports University of Alberta campus organizations for sexual minority students and gay-straight student alliances in local high schools and communities
0 P5 Q8 q" [8 N6 y    * Develops a communications and advertising strategy targeting community agencies, youth groups/programs, and schools

Qualifications

    * Bachelor's degree in education, social work, psychology, or a related professional discipline
    * Three to five years experience in community development with a particular emphasis on sexual minority youth
    * Knowledge in adolescent development, health and sex education, violence prevention,suicide intervention, alcohol and substance abuse, HIV and STI prevention and harm reduction strategies
% C6 w% P" ^  z; D    * Experience in developing and providing youth-oriented programs
, P8 X# G: h2 ?1 k0 M1 O    * Demonstrated effectiveness in working with the LGBTTQ community
    * Fundraising skills an asset
4 a; j$ m6 C0 J/ a" W9 b    * Demonstrated experience in development of youth group programming, community outreach,volunteer management and training and conflict resolution skills
    * Outstanding group facilitation, training, and counselling skills
    * Proven leadership, and strong team, and relationship building skills
    * Excellent communication (oral, written, and web-based), organizational and interpersonal skills
    * Understanding of other languages and experiences working within Aboriginal and ethnocultural communities an asset
